On a side note, is it just me or is H2 getting a lot of talk this year?

I see lots of merchandise popping up with H2 itself referenced. I think that may be due to licensing, right? Otherwise, while I love the renewed interest, is there an anniversary that I'm not aware of?

And yet somehow still a massive step up from 5.
5 IMO was the low point of all the films mask-wise, and both 4 and 6 are probably tied for next worst. I really don’t know why they had such a hard time recreating the look.

Captain Kirk just wasn't as popular in the 80's and 90's. :o

For a franchise with such an iconic villain it is funny how often they mess up the mask. It looks bad in more movies than it looks good and it's such a simple mask too! I do agree the Thorn trilogy is probably where it looks the worst - 5 especially. There's also moments of H2O that I remember it looking bad (i think when you see the actors eyes clearly underneath).

Was there a fandom already around the time the 4th Halloween movie came out? Or it was "just another sequel to a movie"?

There was a scrapped Halloween movie where Busta Rhymes was going to come back and get offed by Michael. Sad it never saw the light of day.

Yes, it is ;)

I'd probably rank the franchise something like this

Halloween
Halloween III: Season of the Witch
H20
Halloween II
Halloween (2018)
Halloween Ends
Halloween 2 (Rob Zombie)
Halloween 1 (Rob Zombie)
Halloween 4
Halloween Kills
Halloween 5
Halloween 6
Halloween Resurrection

I always struggle a bit with Halloween 3 because its a really good Movie...but its not a Halloween movie, not involves Michael and all that.
So i dont know how to rank this movie in the Franchise or if i should even include it.

I can see why people are mixed on it for that reason but I still think it's a great spooky horror movie for this time of year. Had it just been called Season of the Witch and not pushed as part of the Halloween franchise I think some people would treat it differently!

Oh 100%.
It would have been an all time classic.
I like to watch it at the start of October because it gets you into the Halloween mood so fast.

There are way too many of these for me to ever rank them exactly. So I can do a tier one instead and these are in order of release within the tier and not preference:

S Tier

Halloween

A Tier

Halloween III: Season of the Witch
Halloween H2O

B Tier

Halloween II
Halloween 4
Halloween 2018

D Tier

Halloween 5
Halloween Kills

F Tier

Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers (either cut)
Halloween Resurrection
Halloween (Rob Zombie)
H2 (Rob Zombie)
Halloween Ends

Way more F Tier movies than I would have thought going in. Most of these movies are really bad, and I don't think I want to marathon them again anytime soon. Just sticking with B Tier and above in rewatches

One of my favorite things with these horror franchises is finding a recognizable face in one of the sequels who is well known now but was a random back then. So Paul Rudd in Halloween 6 or Adam Scott in Hellraiser 4 as examples.

You made Ellie Grimbridge sad. :o

It's high enough on there. :o

Seriously, I like Halloween 3 but I almost didn't rank it with the Myers movies. It really feels like it should be part of a Creepshow-style anthology movie. I wish they had gone on with their plan of making some anthology movies in that 6 year period before inevitably bringing Michael back.

Honestly, I wish it was an anthology series instead at this point. Yeah, we got some good Michael movies beyond 1, but most of them range from bad to abysmal. I hadn't realized just how bad that ratio was until I did the tier listing.

One thing I have to give credit to the Halloween series is they really made it a point to keep Michael in Haddonfield, with the exception of H20 but even then they didn't go out of their way to flaunt it as "Michael Myers is in California!" like the way the Friday the 13th series sent Jason to New York and outer space.

I mean, on one hand yes. On the other hand....the Cult of Thorne stuff is as ridiculous as anything they did with Jason. They made a cult that had Michael have a baby with his niece and depending on what cut you watch, you control him with runes. That's wild and ridiculous garbage
