The Healthy Hypesters Challenge

^^Not everyone has so easy a time. :( I've known plenty of folks who really struggled.

Yeah, me too. I'm not saying I'm not having urges, but I just don't smoke them.

I have urges -- for pizza, cheesecake, chocolate chip cookies.... :waa:

I never really was into sweets.

Have you signed up for Livestrong.com? It's a great tool to help anyone live a healthier life.

Never heard of it. :) We have a lot of wellness programs and meetings through work so I know what I should be doing, I just don't always do it. :p

My Brother has been on it since August, and has lost 45 pounds. I've been on it for a little over a month, and have lost nearly 12 pounds AND stopped smoking and drink less.

It just helps give you motivation, you keep track of your Calorie intake and put in your weight. You have to be honest, and you can set it so only you see your calories or only your friends, But no one sees your weight but you.

It'll show you graphs of your weight and calories over time, and it's easy to use. I have the Iphone app so I can take it with me where ever I go, but my brother doesn't have that but he still uses it.

It's set up a lot like Myspace, and you make friends on it, you can except "Dares". It's really cool. If you are serious about losing weight, or Gaining Muscle, or staying steady, or quitting smoking, all the tools are there.

so mostly i feel like ive tapped out at having lost 12 pounds. i dont really have that much energy and my running/working out is becoming more off and on. so im going to try and add "get more rest" and "eat breakfast" to the things that i want to do list. oh, and ill probably sign up for that livestrong site, 'cause i know part of it has to be what im eating still.

Make sure you get enough protien. When I was dieting at first I had the same problem. I learned I wasn't getting enough protien by half. Once I upped it back up -- whey protien powder is our friend  --- I had more energy and was less hungry too. :)

I've had a pretty easy time stopping smoking Cigarettes. Like I said a couple of days ago, just drink cold water. I'm surprised how easy it has been, just stop buying them, the rest will follow suit.

I'm about to ****ing kill someone. :cmad: In fact, I think that under the right circumstances I might just murder someone for a cigarette. :oldrazz:

Seriously though. It ****ing sucks.

Cool. Just what I need.

I used to be fairly healthy. At 5'6'', I used to wiegh 145 and could bench press 200lbs. Now, after a years bout of depression from personal struggle and then my fiance and I breaking up this past fall, I weigh 200 and can barely benchpress 140.

When I look in the mirror, I can say, "yeah, you should lose some weight, dude, but hey, you still look good". But I recently saw some pictures of me and it was a complete shell shock, the difference between looking in a mirror and seeing pictures is sickening. I'm doing what I can (detailed below), but I'm not really seeing much difference...so any help, advice, supplements, would be great!

My routine:
Monday, Wed, Sat: Weight lift. Arms, Shoudlers, Chest; Stomach, Back, Legs; Little bit of everything, respectively.

Tuesday, Thurs, Sun: Treadmill ( i try to do a mile each time)

I don't really eat so bad, I think most of it has to do with my soda consumption (up until recently I'd drink aloooooot of that stuff...now I'm down to 1 - 2 soda's a day, which is still too much). But I've been drinking more water, taking that Acai berry stuff, and eating more fruit.

I guess my immediate goals are to loose at least 30 pounds by summer, if that is even possible, and to be rid of my soda addiction, which is the main culprit.

This was pretty easy for me when I did it a few months ago. My advice is to drink at least 4 glasses of water a day and then if you're still thirsty drink a least 2 glasses of an all natural fruit or veggie juice. Then after 4 glasses of water, 2 glasses of juice if you still WANT a soda you can have a soda.

Within two days I stopped soda altogether.

Good luck.

That's what I'm trying to do...

I DO allow my self a soda each morning (my excuse is the caffeine helps me wake up for my 2 hour commute to work everyday) but to make up for it I'll drink water for the rest of the day (not alot of water, but water regardless).

Have you found that since stopping the soda intact, you've lost wieght and/or its been easier to loose weight?

I have that same problem, I've been limiting myself to one diet soda a day. I intend to eliminate that shortly though. On a good note, I jogged 2 miles this morning :).

I stopped drinking Pepsi, I used to drink one of those liters a day. That cuts off immediatly 300 Calories. And, it's one of many things I've done, but I've lost over 10 pounds in 4 weeks. It's empty calories, you don't need it. Coffee with 2 sugars only have 30 Cals, a Pepsi has like 150.

If you need Soda, drink diet, that has 0 Cals.

Once you stop telling yourself, "Oh, I can have this one soda," I think you'll find it to be much easier. Get rid of all the soda in your house. Diet soda isn't really any better for you...the sugar substitutes used it in are HORRIBLE for you. I know people who have gained more weight from drinking diet sodas than regular. I found that once I stopped drinking soda completely, very soon I didn't even miss it.

Yeah all soda is ****. I don't like the taste of diet soda, so that will help me remove it soon. I just like to have some caffeine in the morning, and I really ****ing hate coffee.

Oh hell yes. I've lost nearly 50 pounds since stopping soda. And it was only over the course of a few months. Also that weight has never returned.

Make tea. Its low in Calories, and you can find some higher in Caffeine than Coffee.

Thats good to hear (and congrats to you!).

Losing 50 would be the absolute ideal for me, but I'm shooting for 30 (it seems alot less "impossible" to me at this point).

Does anyone find that sports drinks (powerade, gatorade, propel, vitamin water, etc) are good or do you think they hinder one's weightloss? I've heard so many conflicting opinions...

Vitamin Water is terrible for you. Just Drink Water, if you want Flavor, and something good for you but not water drink FUZE Slenderizers. They have about 5 to 10 Calories per bottle and have all kinds of Vitamins. Here's a list I saw recently:

http://www.menshealth.com/eatthis/Unhealthiest_Drinks_in_America/1_The_Worst_Drink_in_America.php

It has a bunch of stuff to avoid.

I totally endorse this post. I use to tell myself just to have one cup so I can get by for the day (damn caffeine) but once I stopped that mentality it was a lot easier to quit drinking it than I thought. I rarely have cravings for it. It's pushing three weeks now since I've drank any and I feel really good about it.

I had to cut out all non-natural fruit and veg juices and sports drinks eventually. I have blood sugar problems though and that was mostly the reason for it.

The only time a person could really benefit from a sports drink is if they're really playing extreme sports, due to the intense cardio and long length of time required. In that case, it helps to have some electrolytes replenished.

Just drink water.

I've stopped eating/drinking except for tea at Starbucks. (Where I work)

I've lost some weight and my skin looks way better.

Well, you guys have convinced me...

No more soda's "in the morning to wake up'' excuses. Water, water, water. It'll be tough for a while cause, damn do i love soda, but i want to be healthy even more.

The ONLY time I'll allow myself to have any soda is if I make a rum and coke (which happens no more then once a month). I think that's a reasonible allowance. I'll probably be coming on here to let you guys know how it works out, so you can pimp slap me if i slip (that goes for working out too - its stomach, back, and legs today). :)

Brand new jeans, here i come!
