The History of 300

My argument is that if the Persians where either Hispanic or Black there would be alot of people *****ing about racism but since we in a cold war state with Iran it is ok?! My problem is that I HATED 300 I bought and read but It PISSED me off at the way the story and the figures was butchered! I WISH that Gates of Fire was made into a movie instead of 300!

And ya know , one of few things , or the only one worked in Alexander , was that battle between his army and persian's , now that looked all right

And about Gates of Fire , not so sure , I was like , read lots of pages on this book , and no one bout Leonidas ???

They were one of the greatest administration of the world , specially in that time , created the first official system of mail , roads , The 1st Large Professional Army , If I'm not wrong

The Persian Empire was great indeed , and that's why I will be pissed if they **** a lot with them , Xerxes like that is fine for me , if Santoro plays him good , which I believe , some of these freaks like the big Immortal is also fine , gives some colour to the story . But I hope the immortals stay like human

I mean that's the beauty of story for me , a big large empire , of Humans with human ambitions , like Giant Dragons against 300 lions , 300 who are fighting bravely and wildly not only coz they were raised like that , coz they are fighting for something , bigger than protect Greek itself , something they don't exactly know what is , but know it's something extraordinary .

Or in another view like , The Democracy or Freedom Whatever like something was being born , an infant just born , and there's this like Big Wolf like Leonidas faced , this big beast and it's coming for this just born being , and the 300 stand between these 2

Apparently you care what people think, sharing your thoughts on this board about Comic books turned into movies. And as far as respect, this film is based on a comic that you JUST pointed out you dont have respect for. So, no respect is given, no respect is due.

And I'm sure if this was a eastern Mediterranean Historical internet bulliten board, people would care about these details. But this is a comic based board. Be wary of your surroundings.

I didn't mind discussion of the graphic novel/film verses the real story (I actually think it is very interesting), but dont look down your nose on the source material (which is what this community is based on) and expect everyone to agree with you. I'm sure 99% of people visiting here are exspecting a translation of the AWARD WINNING Graphic Novel, not a factual representation of historical events. But please do not trot around shouting "THIS FILM IS RACIST AND IS FULL OF HISTORICAL FALLACIES!!!" and not exspect people here to roll their eyes at you, it's bad enough you already brought an interesting discussion to a screeching halt.

Too me that is an INSULT to a call a KING THAT Especally a Persian king!

Nice try. It was NOT DARIUS THE GREAT. I was talking about Darius the third. But trust me he had a harem full of chicks and many, many women who he'd support just so he could "please himself". That's why when Alexander of Macedonia showed up, tless then a quarter of he Persian Army came for battle. No one had respect for the King anymore. The king had not chose a predecessor and he had like 20 kids. The people of Persia knew it was the end of the Achaemanian Dynasty so they thought they might as well go with the stronger and better Empire at the time. Persia was defeated and India held a defense in honor of the great kings of Persia (Darius I and Cyrus II) Incase you didn't know they were allies as well as with China.

This thread wasn't really to bash the movie. I just didn't want this movie to be a history lesson to people. It's good for them to be aware of the actual thing before they go to watch a fictional film based on a graphic novel.

Oh, I undersand that perfectly. And I enjoy the conversation on the real Hot Gates as opposed to the film. For example, I loved the movie Braveheart, but I also enjoyed reading about the real William Wallace, Edward the 1st, Robert the Bruce, ect. I know Gibsons film took insane amounts of liberty with the story, and after finding out the real fact later still didn't deminish my appreciation for the movie.

I just have a problem when one posts that they despise the Graphic Novel, and the unreleased film, on a discussion board about the translation of that Graphic novel to a motion picture. And then they blather about being given respect. Seems pretty doofy to me to even announce something like that here.

Well if they made a movie adaptation on a award winning graphic novel that depiced Black people as subhuman, people would be pissed and protesting! If you've read my previous posts you will see that I preferred Gates of Fire over 300 be made into a movie! I never asked for respect! read my posts!

Guys there is no real historical accuracy to 300, we proved that a 1000 times, even the director stated it wasn't supposed to be based on history.

OK I am sorry to all the Miller fans or fans of this movie! It just set me off that the Persians are being portrayed in a subhuman manner! More than likely I will still enjoy the movie? Does that any of you happy? I'd have hoped that Gates would have been made into movie a movie since it was a more powerful story BUT Millar has Hollywood's ear right now hopefully 300 make enuff money so that Pressfield and Curtus Ford's book are turned into movies (Both of their novels are based on Greek and Roman subjects are good reads!)

I had said this before but will repeat again , am I the only who thought Gates was crap sometimes ....... And worse , I barely saw any talk bout Leonidas , I mean he was the King , arguably one of the best warriors , He was the one Xerxes wanted the head and crucificate the body ..... and Gates mainly focus on that warrior Dion .... something .

As much as I have my complaint bout 300's , which is mainly the immortals , I just hope they are humans in the film , I could go along with the rest , Even with lot of things beind made up , the fact that the story is focused in Leonidas is what makes it great . I mean He was the one who brilliantly chose the strategy who made it all possible , Few Greeks killin so many persians

I'm sure it would be pretty disappointing to go watch a movie about Thermopylae with Leonidas in 2nd, 3rd view , in favor to put the spotlight in another guy

I hope you know that Leonidas was 60 in that battle and yes he was on of Sparta's 2 kings the WHOLE idea of the Spartans sacrifice was NOT about the king BUT about Greece and Sparta that is why he went! Remember he was told either a Spartan king dies or Sparta dies! Since Sparta had a duel monarch system he chose himself to be the king that dies!

Also Leonidas had his fair share of the Spotlight in Gates! I think it is funny that Ive yet to hear Sparta making Frank Miller a honorary Spartan citizen BUT Steve Pressfield WAS! I feel you failed to capture the vibe of the book. Being Spartan was more than being a king! Why do you Leonidas is working to build the walls because he WAS a Spartan FIRST and King second!

Pressfield gave ALL the Spartans equal focus and Dienekes was Xeo's master in the beginning of the book! So ofcourse there would be some focus on him in the beginning! Also 300 is a comic book so you can only include so much!

Indeed , but at least the history itself is not very changed .... I mean it's like playin a acoustic song with multiple effects and giving it a dance techno feel .......


- Xerxes big army invading Greece
- Spartans plus some allies go to face them
- Thermopylae
- Battle begins , the persians get ****ed
- Xerxes gets pissed , sends Immortals
- Immortals get ****ed as well
- Traitor ****s up the Greeks
- Some Greeks run away , some get slaughtered , and the Spartans try to kill few more persians and die as well

Then Greece unites and wins the war

I don't think the movie goes much away from this
