Isn't that the guy that Fox fired ?

Massawyrm? Hum, don't know. But if so, that would make his review biased. But he had some decent points about the movie that I can see are probably accurate.

Yeaaa, Ebert vs some no name from AICN, lets see, gah i just dont know who is more credited here???

Ebert gave Booty Call thumbs up. "Credited" doesn't matter, because it's still a matter of opinion. I usually only use critics as a guideline whether to see it in the theater if I have not made up my mind.

Keep in mind, critics are looking for originality a lot more than the average viewer. Hitman looks like a fairly straight-up action / spy games thriller. To average movie viewers and fans of the genre, it might be pretty good. But to a critic, it's perfectly ripe garbage, and the fact that it's based on a game makes it even more of a target. I'm probably gonna see the movie tonight and judge for myself. I'm sure there's validity in some of the critics' complaints, but that won't necessarily mean that it's a bad movie, and that's why I want to see it before assuming that it's awful because it has an 11% at Rotten Tomatoes.

I'm sure he is the guy fired over the FF2 leak. I'd have to see the movie to know whether he made any valid points.

I'm seeing it later tonight. I've only read the Ebert review since this is one of the few movies out there where I'm not too concerned with the critics. I think back to Equilibrium, one of my favorite sci-fi movies, and that got a horrid RT rating. Ebert praised it in a weird way, so I'm going into this one with the same expectations

Wow, Equilibrium is one of my favorite movies, but I had no idea it got such terrible reviews. Maybe I will like Hitman.

What did you like about it?

What didn't you like about it?

Pros:
-imo every actor in that movie did a good job acting
-really like how he never did anything with the girl, even though she was all over him
-a lot of blood
-pretty good storyline
-good amount of hand to hand combat

Cons:
-some action scenes are done quick(it's still good though)

You actually LIKED that..?

Why is one of the Positive Disney's Enchanted Review mixed in with the Hitman Reviews??? I think rottentomatoes is trying to give Hitman a higher score by throwing good reviews from other movies into it. :woot:

I agree that critics do look more for originality than your average viewer, but at the same time, a movie should be able to stand on its own legs. I don't think critics are out to get video game adapations, its simply that they're so damn hard to adapt to a movie, especially a good movie that can appeal to fans and newcomers alike. I for one can't say there is a good video game adapation. They're ALL bad to me, although I enjoyed DOA in a purely guilty pleasure fashion. They're not bad because they're unfairly targetted or criticized, they're bad because the filmmaker doesn't realize how to bring the game world to life and to overcome the fact that you cannot control the main character and instead must watch him/her go through the story without your input. Basically these video game adaptations are generic action movies with the label of the video game slapped on it, and they're all cliched and plain boring, not at all capturing the fun or charm of the game.

Mike from JoBlo.com didn't like it either: http://www.joblo.com/review-hitman

There's a moment in the middle of HITMAN, the Fox adaptation of the Eidos videogame, where a Russian prostitute (Olga Kurylenko) is attempting to seduce our protagonist hitman. She unzips his pants, unbuckles his belt and asks him to remove her underpants. (Never the subtle one, she spends an earlier scene walking around topless.) We think our hitman, codenamed Agent 47, might take the bait and let his privates give her privates a high five. But no, our stoic hero removes a device from his jacket, jabs it to her neck and she passes out in a clump on the bed. He puts his clothes back on and walks out of the room.

Like a Russian prostitute, HITMAN tries very hard to seduce you with some cheap thrills and also like a Russian prostitute HITMAN isn't very subtle. It's not going to waste time with getting to know you; it's going to whip off its top, hope you don't ask any questions and leave your wallet empty.

Agent 47 doesn't touch ladies in the games. Why should he in the movie?
Precisely.

Though for the sake of more action, I kinda did want 47 to go through with it. :p

But goddayum, chick sure has a bangin' body. I don't care how stoic I was trained to be, if she was on top of me with no panties, lookin' like that, lord have mercy... :o

I think I'm going to change my plains and go out and buy Blood Money instead.

Got Live Free or Die Hard, got a free ticket- so, what the hell... seeing it tomorrow. As long as it's better than Resident Evil, should be decent.

I'm not even going to lie. I went into the theater thinking the film would be bad (like all other video game adaptations), but this was actually a decent video game adaptation. I enjoyed myself watching this film. The trailers really made this film look like some over-the-top action film, where Agent 47 would have a love interest and get the girl. It actually did a good job in staying faithful to the character. The action was fun, though some of the direction was weak. Over all, I enjoyed myself, and the film exceeded my expectations.

Rating:

3/4 stars

LastSunrise couldn't have been so wrong. Hopefully, he saw the film.
