"The Hobbit" offered to.....SAM RAIMI!

I don't know about this one. WHile I enjoy his movies a lot, I don't know if he'd be right for it. Ridley Scott maybe?

Can Raimi do dark?

Go watch A Simple Plan and The Gift. Much darker than anything Jackson has done. Just because he did Spider-Man doesn't mean he can't do anything but family friendly superhero movies.

this horrible news. how sad. tim burton would've been a better choice cause his films actually have substance and is unique. raimi is bland as hell.

Wow these people come out of hats?? that id like to see

Hahahaha, you know what I mean.

Sam Raimi and Peter Jackson started off in the horror/comedy genre. Then both moved to thrillers/fantasy. and then both moved to MAJOR franchises. :cwink:

Ijust never agreed with the comments Jackson has made in the past about how he was going to "LOTR-up" The Hobbit and stretch it into 2 movies
Peter Jackson needs to make an 80 minute long horror movie immediately.
He's losing his mind.
I heard there's some NEW King Kong extra-extra deluxe super director's cut pt. 2 with like, 40 minutes added to the already 3 hour movie?
lol

Anyone who watches the Evil Dead movies and sees no style or unique technique needs to stop watching movies at once.

As for substance, all I need to say is A Simple Plan. Look I love Jackson, but he isn't the only director in the world and while King Kong was good, its overly long length and even longer DVD and both Halo and Hobbit falling through....the guy's got some problems there.

As for Burton. I love Burton, he is a great director, but don't EVER let him adapt Tolkien. I enjoyed his Batman movies and love the first one still, but overall I want a straight adaptation of The Hobbit and not a re-imagining. I mean if Planet of the Apes taught us anything, it is to keep Burton away from other people's material.

Now, I doubbt Raimi will take it anyway, but don't act as if it is the end of the world though.

Burton? Adapt The Hobbit? No thanks. Burton always has to put his own spin on things. Bilbo would end up being an emo who hates his life.

If he takes the job, he'll probably do a better job than Jackson did.

Heheh, so true!

Well, I guess as long as none of the Ents rape anyone.

The jury's still out on them not doing that to Saruman. We don't know why he was holed up in that tower.

I said Tim Burton as a joke and people are taking it seriously. Then again...Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was a pretty faithful adaptation if you take away Willy's childhood stuff.

You're just one bitter comic book fanboy. Over a billion dollars in revenue and critical acclaim shows it's not the worst big budget blockbusters.

:whatever: :whatever:

I agree with you, I dont know what stormy was banging on about but the spidey flicks are in terms of BO one of the most successful franchises ever.

Last time I checked the majority of hardcore Spider-Man fans enjoy both 1 and 2 equally, and are just as pumped for the third and final film.

I'm not part of that majority, unfortunately. I think both spidey flicks are medicore at best and to be honest I'm dissapointed. They were boring, uninspiring, well anyone who knew me as spider-jide knows exactly how I feel but sm3 looks like its going to be the movie I've ben waiting for, it looks incredible. With that said, I believe in giving peple a chance, its not like the hobbit should end pre=production just because Jackson isn't doing it.

Something tells me this is just the first (actually it's the second, Jeunet was the first) name of many that's gonna be thrown around to take over.
What's funny is New Line cant make the film without MGM, well they can make it but it wont go anywhere.
You've got MGM, Zaentz and Jackson in one corner and New Line in the other.
Hopefully New Line gets stalled enough Zaentz can just sell the rights to Jackson himself.

But that's half the fun!

The other half is Bilbo cutting off his own hand and gluing Sting to the stump.

I can see the ending now.

Bilbo: Sure, I could've stayed in Gondor. Could've even been king. But in my own way, I already am. (grabs hot female Hobbit) Hail to the king baby.

Bilbo is not from Gondor, he's from Bag's End.

And he could never be king, cause he has no noble heritage like Aragorn.

LOL. Genius. "Now listen up, you primitive screwheads. See this? This... is my blue-stick! You can find this in the sporting goods department. That's right, this sweet baby was made in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Retails for about $109.95. That's right. Shop smart. Shop S-Mart. You *got* that? "

We're forgetting one thing.

Peter Jackson and his fat wife were huge fans of Tolkien.

Sam Raimi is NOT a Tolkien fan.
