The Horror Thread - Part 1

Woohoo, my Crystal Lake Memories doc turned up today :woot:

I don't know that we'll ever seen something quite like the 80's slasher craze, but It has made it's resurgence in small burts for the past couple decades. In the 90's we had the "I Know What You Did..." films, and the Scream trilogy, as well as the early 90's films that rounded out most of the major franchises, that then got sequels later in the 90's, including Wes Craven's New Nightmare, and Halloween H20.

The 2000's haven't really had as much if you weren't looking, but we got some: Freddy vs. Jason, Scream 4, Hatchet and Hatchet 2, Halloween Resurrection, Seed and Bride of Chucky, Rob Zombie's Halloween and H2, Jason X, Nightmare and F13 remakes. I'm sure there are more I'm missing but we haven't been without them. Although it is arguable if any of those are good, and personally I only really like the Hatchet films and FvsJ out of those. But they are there.

Hatchet may be my favorite movies ever I just love the thing . I hate Danielle Harris' southern accent the whole 2nd one but the 3rd one is what a Friday the 13th movie should of been years ago ! Hatchet 3 finally had a whole swat team try and kill VC I would of loved to seen a take like it with Jason.

Slasher movies are my favorite type of movies that and 80s action movies I just pray we get some slashers in theaters and at least one know slasher icon. I can pray to satan I guess lol

Hatchet was awesome, loved it, Shame the sequel sucked mind. What's everyone else's thoughts on the third one?

You know Jason vs a Swat would have been a great plot in Jason Goes to Hell instead of it taking up about 5 minutes of screen time followed by a body jump plot.

NoES2 is still pretty horrible. I like the whole possession thing with Freddy, but it is just executed horribly. Moving on to F13: A New Beginning.

Anyone else hate that Jason's mortal enemy is Corey Feldman? haha.

Hatchet III was better than the second but not as fun as the original, imo. i had my hopes up but i just don't like Victor Crowley the same way i like Jason or the Shape.

good news is that he was recast. :yay:

the "hero" of the film was a mopey spazz. i don't hate the movie but it's one of my least favorite of the franchise.

It was unintentionally funny. Especially the ending where for those who don't know, [blackout]she turns out to be a robot for no apparent reason and kills the poor guy[/blackout]. That explains a few things in the movie but not how it happened itself.

i definately laughed at the slow motion charge, at the end. for a similarly goofy reveal and death, i'd recommend the 80s movie 'Fatal Games.' i think they might even use the popular "Push it to the Limit" (or a similarly cheesy) song in this one.

That's a shame but at least it beats II from what you're saying. I like Victor Crowley but tbh who would get close to the big three anyway? No one really.

Ok here's one, what does everyone think of Halloween: H20?

I think it feels very 90's, and not in a good way. I can't stand that noisey screechy score either. I'm actually a pretty big fan of Halloween 4, much more so than anything that followed it, maybe on par with II. That's classic slasher stuff.

I don't like Curse very much, but that opening sequence is out-****ing-standing slasher movie stalk-and-kill. So suspenseful.

I didn't like the first Hatchet, so I have put off watching the sequels...but October is Horror marathon month, so I'll finally get around to them.

I loved all three of them. Was very happy to actually III in a theater. That was a great experience. I hope the rumors of all three films being connected into one epic flick does come about.

that's true how can anyone come to the Father, son & Holy Spirit. But for a start to DVD series not bad to have the fan base it does I love alll 3 with 2 being the weak point and with maybe a bigger budget and a studio to go with it it would be a lot bigger.

Maybe I have a love for adam green as I love holliston and pretty much all the work he's done. "Frozen" is ok.

I still think Hatchet three as the best plot to go with a F13 movie maybe not steal the whole movie but have the whole it's more an action movie feel to it.

I'm praying anchor bay can give up rights to the first I would kill to see the "ultimate cut" in theaters .

About 4 and a half hours, total. Maybe less, unless a few scenes get added. Each film starts where the last left off, so there's some overlapping footage, like with the Rocky films. And none was more than 90 minutes, if that long. So really, not a terrible experience. Just think you're watching The Return of the King with more gore.

They did the same thing for a couple of the F13 films. I'll definitely check out the Hatchet films in sometime in October.

Curse of Chucky has a pretty nice soundtrack.

i might have liked it if Danielle Harris wasn't in it. i associate her with the second movie suckage.

to the board, "what are some horror movies that might benefit from a sequel?"

my personal list:

Jeepers Creepers (i liked the 1st two and wouldn't mind a 3rd)

Pumpkinhead (the second one was a dud but i was at least partially entertained by parts 3 and 4)

Trick r'Treat (i seriously wish they'd put out one of these every October)

Dog Soldiers (i'm leery of the american version but i want more non-romanticized werewolves)

Satan's Helper (wasn't a great movie but a decent premise)

Creepshow (i need something to wipe the taste of part III out of my mouth)

Tales from the Hood (they put so much care into it that i'm surprised that there wasn't a followup)

Sharknado (just because)

Sharknado 2 is a go, here in NYC I believe, even.

I have to agree about Trick r Treat. I feel like the movie is such a good cult hit that they could keep doing low budget, DTV movies every year or two and be successful.
