The Horror Thread - Part 2

Even the original part 2 had some lame parts. My biggest problems were that...

There seemed like there was only 6 people in a major hospital.

Two of the most perfect shots ever taken on film.

How small is MM supposed to be that he's mistaken for a trick or treater?

I still like it but it did have its issues. IMO the worst Halloween movie was part 5. At least part 4 tried to be scary but 5 started all the stupid humor and I think I remember him going on a date. I blame the Freddy fad, stupid humor in horror, but its still where Halloween took a turn for the worse.

I watched Brides of Dracula yesterday and thought it was downright awesome. Dracula isn't in it but the story, acting and pace are top notch. IMO its the third best vampire film by Hammer. Right up there with Horror of Dracula and Twins of Evil.

Well, I kinda agree with you on there being so few people in the hospital. Although I don't know how "major" it was supposed to be. I got the impression that Haddonfield Illinois was supposed to be a fairly small town.

But when was Michael Myers ever mistaken for a trick-or-treater?

As for him going on a date in Part 5. People forget that Myers isn't the braindead ****** Jason Voorhees is. He's a clever, cunning killer. He was using Jamie's sister's friend to get to Jamie. It's not like he was trying to get laid or anything. What I didn't like about Part 5 was the whole psychic link between Michael & Jamie, and the whole "Man In Black" angle. I also didn't like the humorous tone they began using.

More Halloween movies I've watched in the Past weeks (but forgot to mention):

When A Stranger Calls (1979)
Dreamcatcher
The Plague
Army Of Darkness
Sleepaway Camp
Scary Movie
Scary Movie 2
Scary Movie 3.5 (footnote: I was an extra in that movie. I got to spend the day hanging out with Pamela Anderson & Carmen Electra's body doubles, and got paid for it)

Actually I've never seen Day on TV. As for dawn, its very possible the Snyder remake pulls better ratings on TV as I see that one shown pretty often. There's also so many cuts of the original that the rights issues may also be a nightmare where as Night is public domain.

Also, with the Rifftracks crap, I think movie riffing, other than a few comments here and there, as the primary intent while watching a movie is pretty much always terrible. I've never known of anyone who was good at it. So often the riffers just end up reaching for any possible excuse to make a joke and 99% of their comments don't land.
Dude it was absolutely brutal. I thought I was just pissed about not being able to watch NotLD but it was the bad humor. It was so bad that it was almost insulting to pay for that crap. I wanted to scrape out my eye's with an ice cream scooper it was so bad.

The thing is I was one of the few people there not slapping my knee and not doubled over laughing. I don't get it??? Did I miss something???

Same here. I will admit Halloween 4 made a good attempt at being scary. In my opinion they failed, but I think I might be a little harsh because I don't scare very easy. But they do get points for effort.

As for watching the "unofficial trilogy", I'm saving that for Halloween Night. I'm planning on dressing up to hand candy out to the trick-or-treaters and watching the Halloween Trilogy. Then I might watch some other horror films later that night.

Well tbh Horror films don't really scare me I just enjoy them :woot:

Sounds awesome mate, I'm gonna watch Halloween 4 with the missus and hand out the sweet. I have the whole day off work so I'm also going to be watching Halloween The Inside Story documentary which I bought off Amazon and the two Halloween episodes of Tales From the Darkside, Trick or Treat and Halloween Candy. Probably watch a few Simpsons Treehouse of Horror's (early ones cause they actually did spoof horror films at the time unlike now when its rare) and maybe some other stuff.

When Ben Tramer got hit by that car wearing a very similar costume and mask to Michael, so when they had "thought" Michael had been killed Loomis and the deputy checked the dental records with the dentist and realized it was Ben Tramer which was a 17 year old high school kid.

I was listening to a podcast today and they had abit of a go at how Michael ends up at the hospital, saying it was coincidence that Michael finds Laurie and that how did he even know that woman was a nurse whose car he'd hid on. I was dying to jump on and be like no he finds her cause he hears it on the radio that guy and he knows she's a nurse cause he hears her talking about been a nurse and been late for work.

Whoever mentioned Going To Pieces, its a great doc.

As for top 3 horror mine are all in the slasher sub genre.

1) Halloween
2) A Nightmare on Elm Street
3) Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter

See I love the first Nightmare on Elm Street, the others wouldn't exist with out it, but 3,4,&5 do fantastic things with the concept and I like 3 the most overall. 4 has the best ending though.

I love that franchise so much.

You know, even with Halloween being my favorite, series, how did Michael find out about Laurie? I mean we have to assume she was born and off screen in the original film, and really with the original there was technically not supposed to be the family connection, but how did he track her down? I've always assumed he maybe got into the files when all the mental patients were let out before stealing Loomis. car, but it never really says.

Its still not playing anywhere near me. Any good?

I was disappointed with it.

A few enjoyable parts but it seems like it was trying to hard to become a cult classic rather than be it's own movie.

Not at all, don't take what I said the wrong way. I just meant that everyone has their own opinions but love or hate certain films you can't really argue that they are classics of the genre or game changers cause they are.

I understand. My original comment was in regards to it changing in the entire film industry, as in all genres. I completely agree that it affected the horror/slasher genre though. Sorry to everyone if I was being rude, I can be really stubborn with my opinions at times.

I take it you've never watched Halloween 2, where most of this information is explained?

Yesterdays picks were Phantasm and Night of the Demons ('88), took a break from straight horror and finally went and saw Gravity last night which is fantastic.

I am currently watching Ed Wood to start the day, one of my favorite Burton films.

Well you did have a point . Scream didn't change the entire film industry , only the horror genre to a certain extent. I'm in the same boat. I love Scream , but it's not scary and wouldn't be in my top ten of horror classics.

I'm mostly watching films I haven't seen this year. Although there will be some exceptions. Silently Night ,Deadly Night was a great surprise. I think it's an underrated slasher. I wanted to rent the original Black Xmas or even buy it ,but it's hard to find. Of course the terrible remake is readily available.

About to watch the 'Still Screaming' documentary then onto the 'Scream' quadrilogy.

Now onto the one, the only, the almighty, the classic.....THE EXORCIST

I've watched Halloween 2 several times. I just really don't recall any of that information. I would say it and Resurrection are the two I've watched least though.

'Still Screaming' was such an interesting documentary.

Cool to hear about some stuff like the Scream 2 script leaking online and Stu being written in to come back in Scream 3 for which Matthew Lillard was even paid for but never filmed a scene.
