Some interesting reactions during the screening of "Raw" at the TIFF.

Personally I can't even imagine reacting like that to a movie. I've been grossed out and even disgusted, but never physically ill.

Who doesn't like a good cannibal movie:

"When a young vegetarian undergoes a carnivorous hazing ritual at vet school, an unbidden taste for meat begins to grow in her."
this happens every year or so a film has people passing out at festivals but then i watch it and i dont get why lol

Yeah. I tend to thing of film fest crowds as more genteel and generally older than typical movie crowds so are more likely to be "shocked" by the more graphic and violent movies shown. I do wonder why people susceptible to those kinds of reactions see these types of movies (free passes maybe?)

The one time I ever got sick watching a movie was Jackass 2. We were watching it in a hotel room before going out, and I had already had a decent big of Jack Daniels at the time, but as soon as I saw a man drink horse semen, I ran to the sink and threw up my last drink.

A lot of them are professional critics and have to see them for work.

There's also the matter that they are most likely traveling Nd a midnight horror show might be the 6th movie they see that day. With Sundance you have altitude sickness as well.

Just seen The Wailing this film was pretty good quite gripping and very unnerving horror film with tons of Asian spiritual mythology with ghosts, shamans and devils, etc. a very mysterious film with a very weird if not confusing open for interpretation finale 7.8/10

Can anyone recommend a good, preferably gory, horror movie that's on Netflix right now?

"Contracted: Phase 2" was pretty fun

I actually really do want to check it out, just haven't gotten around to it.

And I heard about the Raw reactions, doesn't surprise me. People barfed at screenings of the Exorcist and the original TCM, didn't they? I also remember one person telling me years ago a girl threw up while watching Zombie's H2. Couldn't handle the gore.

Bound to happen every once and a while. :oldrazz:

My mom saw the Exorcist when it was in theaters with a friend. My mom's opinion on the movie is that it's more gross than it is frightening, but the person that she saw it with vomited outside the theater.

Sounds intriguing. I will have to add this one to the list.

just watched Korean Horror film Tale Of Two Sisters and this was damn good very mysterious, suspenseful psychological horror film with a very sad ending they remade it in the US with a god awful remake The Uninvited but i very much recommend the original. 8/10

Damn, is The Uninvited really a remake of this? I put it on the other day, got bored with it and left it as background noise as I was doing other things around the house. Never thought it was a remake of this, crazy. Tale of Two Sisters is great.

Watched BLAIR WITCH in an empty theater. Most surreal experience ever, like a drug experience that didn't feel real. I can't even judge the movie. At the end I thought I saw a woman slithering in, upon further look no one was there. The sound system was good too, too good, felt like someone was whispering into my ear then later found out the characters were hearing voices too luckily lol. It was too surreal to even watch the movie right. Anyone else ever get stuck in watching a horror movie in an empty theater?

Back in 1986 I went to a midnight showing of LINK, a movie about a homicidal orangutan rebelling against the doctor (Terrance Stamp) who has been experimenting on him and the doctor's new assistant (Elizabeth Shue). I was the only person there....the strangest thing about the experience I remember is, the sound.....it seemed it was turned up way too high, but when I thought about it later, I figured it was set for when there are more people in the theater who are making noise, so it would need to be turned up....but with just me in there it was real loud.

For me it was The Ring 2... Which sucks because that movie wasn't any good.

Also I saw It Follows in an empty theater and right after I got out I had someone walking behind me.

Haha I used to have this mentality. I could never fathom something being so grotesque that it lead me to throw up or anything like that. That though changed this year when I went to see "The Neon Demon".

If you've seen the movie it was the part where...

The model throws up Jessie's eye and the other one casually eats it...bile, tendons and all. When that part happened, I was dry heaving hardcore. Thankfully my brother and I were the only ones in the theater at the midnight showing.

Truth be told, it was kind of an interesting experience. As I said, I've never fathomed it to happen. I'm pretty desensitized when it comes to that sort of thing. Primarily because horror is my favorite genre. Nothing really gets to me. (Until that. haha)

I think the reason it happened was because...I think horror films nowadays are not selective with what they show. They kind of ultra-violence/beat the audience over the head with these gross/disturbing images. I feel that, when done respectfully, their impact can be much more effective when strewn throughout/not overly shown.

The Neon Demon is, to an extent, a horror film. However, it's not in the traditional sense. Sure at the end things become a bit alarming for the main character but, I think it's just through the pacing of the film. The end kind of happens and while there is a build up to it, there really isn't any "fair warning" so to speak. So, in this instance, I feel it's effective because your body and mind haven't been in this state of being subjected to these images, or theme, for an hour and a half-to-two hours. Just an observation.

Either way, is was pretty cool. It definitely made the movie very memorable for me.

it seemed it was turned up way too high

I noticed that too at my theater, but made sure to sit at a far corner seat (the middle was nerve wracking lol). So, it might just be that I was close to the speakers.

Can't remember the last time it was just me, but I was nearly the only one in the midnight showing of Krampus. Ended up being like 4 people in total, and that movie was also loud.

My "horror movie alone" experience was the Evil Dead remake. I went on like a Tuesday night a few weeks after it came out. It was cool to be able to just be completely lost in the movie instead of hearing people talk, seeing anyone get up, hearing people shuffling in their seats, etc.

Well Go USA have sent us an official trailer for the new 4K restoration of the cult classic Phantasm series, which will be available for purchase on Blu-ray on December 6.

The new 4K restoration of Phantasm will also have a limited theatrical engagement in October.

Synopsis: Since its release in 1979, director Don Coscarelli's epic tale of The Tall Man, his deadly silver Sentinel Spheres, and group the small town friends who must band together to stop his dimension-hopping schemes has captivated and terrified horror and sci-fi fans around the world. An immediate success, bringing in 40 times its production budget, the film has influenced generations of filmmakers.

Thirty-seven years later, Phantasm has been finally restored to its original glory by J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot and Coscarelli, with a stunning new 4K remaster and 5.1 surround sound mix from the original elements that ensures Phantasm will be around to scare the hell out of generations to come.
