Today I watched DRACULA (1979) starring Frank Langella, Laurence Olivier, Donald Pleasence, and Kate Nelligan.
This version was based on the stage play that Langella was starring in on Broadway at the time.
A side note......I saw this at the theater when it was released. I later watched the VHS tape several times....but hadn't seen it in decades. I had bought the DVD several years ago, but hadn't watched it until today. As I was watching it....I felt something was off....I thought that they had done a terrible transference to disc....the colors were all washed out. There are many times where it looks like a black and white movie when I remember there being bright colors. Well....I checked IMDB, and apparently director John Badham had wanted to film it in B/W originally but wasn't allowed to....so when it was being prepared for DVD he had the colors washed out to get this effect. I also watched it with Badham's commentary....and in it he mentions this and how after the studio wouldn't let him do it in B/W he decided to make it with vibrant colors instead. The difference is unsettling for someone who is used to the vibrant color. So....if you didn't watch this in the theaters on original release or don't have the tape.....the version you are watching is a changed version.
