The Horror Thread - Part 6

Finally saw the much hyped Turkish horror film Baskin. A bit disappointed as it didn't live up to the hype. The directors next movie is going to be a English language John Carpenter inspired film.

Before I Wake was pretty good.

I don't know if anyone else watches the channel Destination America but, they have a show called True Supernatural and Monsters & Mysteries. Both are gold mines for ideas for new horror movies.

Anybody have some good recommendations for 90's to 2000's American horror films? Preferrably ones that aren't the usual suspects (mainstream / popular)? I'm looking for some hidden gems.

Before I wake, Baskin and the house at the end of times are all worthy of your time.

I've finally watched "Event Horizon" and it's great, nevermind the early CGI at the beggining.
Practical effects are top notch, and the horror is quite good.

Event Horizon is one of my favorite horror movies.

That film remains the best thing Paul w.s Anderson has ever done.

I saw Cherry Falls a few months ago and, it's interesting to be sure. Might not be to everyone's tastes, but it is interesting. As for others, lets see:

-Dog Soldiers (2002).

-The Burrowers (2008)-Horror/Western, which is an interesting mix of genres.

-Avenged (also known as Savaged) (2013 US films-There's an unrelated South African film of the same name that also came out that year, so avoid the confusion).

-Audition (1999)-AKA one of the most unnerving/creepy films that I've ever seen.

-House of the Devil (2009).

-Eden Lake (2008)-Has Michael Fassbender in it.

-Black Water (2007)-Australian creature feature, inspired (loosely) by true events.

-The Reef (2010)-Made by the same people, also inspired (loosely) by true events.

To piggy-back on StarLord's recommendation, Abel Ferrara's The Addiction (1995) is certainly interesting and underseen, but it is hard to find a copy. I caught it on IFC many years back.

Great one

Yeah Cherry Falls might not be everyone's taste. But worth a watch.

The invitation was a nice surprise. A bit slow at times, but good over all.

The film is now on netflix.

Here to report that Lights Out is a great crowd pleasing horror film with a solid story and some well constructed scares. The film. Gets really creative with its ptemise of a monster that only exists in the dark, taking it in directions you might not think.

Anybody know any movies like Red Dawn or its remake... but it's Horror? Sort of like The Road, or even Independence Day but instead of an alien invasion it's a terrorist invasion? Or The Walking Dead but with terrorists instead of zombies?

Kind of an odd request, but I'm drawing a blank here...

Looking to do something different for my Halloween marathon in October this month the theme is Anthlogy movies. I know all about creeps how tales from the dark side twilight zone trick r treat tales of Halloween and some others but if anybody can suggest some interesting ones I'd appreciate it.

Have you seen Body Bags?

Baskin was a real let-down, imo.

Granted, it wasn't as great as it could have been, I thought the last part could have been developped more, but it has a lot of interesting thing. Enough potential to make me check the director's next project.
