The Horror Thread - Part 6

Friday the 13th Part 5 did a copycat storyline, and it wasn't very popular. The person who was the copycat turning out to be a nobody didn't help, but mostly fans didn't warm to it because it wasn't Jason.

that's actually my second favorite Friday the 13th movie; because of the Tommy Jarvis continuity, hillbilly mother-and-son villains, and likable victims (well, a couple of them).

On horror movie that I'm surprised never got a remake was The Little Girl Who Lives Down The Lane

I mistakenly thought that Jennifer Lawrence's 'House at the end of the Street' was a remake of that.

Years ago I expected Dakota Fanning to be a shoo in for that. :funny:

Recent purchases of today, The Neon Demon & The Gift will both get an airing this weekend, looking forward to both, heard The Gift is a well crafted film with good twists.

What is the gift about never heard of it before now

Not seen it yet but my general understanding is a couple are visited by an ex school mate of the male partner and he delivers said 'gift' and wants to get back in touch and be part of their life and on first view, it's shown he is needy & intrusive to them but the story unravels as we find out Jason Bateman's character (the husband) is not as innocent as we think or have been led to believe, it sounds quite similar to The Box (2009) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Box_(2009_film)

Sounds like a good movie. Intrigued by Bateman being not so innocent. I think I might pick this up

The Gift is really good.

One recent film that I recommend is Nina Forever. Here's the concept...a guy is in love with his girlfriend (Nina), but she dies in a car accident. He is distraught, tries to kill himself...is depressed...but starts dating a new girl during his grieving process. Unfortunately for the new girl, Nina's bloody, talking corpse shows up to get in the middle of things. This movie is NOT scary...but it's really interesting...and Abigail Hardingham is a new star that I can't wait to see more from. My only real problem is that they made a REALLY bad decision with the ending...I can't get into it without spoiling it, but I HATED it. Otherwise, I really enjoyed it.

^ Kinda sounds similar to Joe Dante's Burying the Ex.

The Gift is great. I very much liked The Neon Demon, but it's a film I feel is "hit or miss", dependig on the viewer. Some will love it, some will hate it, and there will probably be no in-between.

True the neon demon is either love it or hate it there is no grey area in that movie

Neon Demon sounds a lot like 'Starry Eyes.'

Loved both The Gift and The Neon Demon. Both difficult to write mini reviews without spoilers but The Gift is a well written, tight thriller/horror with v strong performances, especially Bateman. 8/10.

The Neon Demon - if you don't like Refn's previous work, this won't change that view. Introspective look at the world of modelling and catwalk life, using imagery & social satire as a way in. Cracking performances from all, for me 7/10, for non fans of the director, a tough watch, probably around 4/10.

I watched "The Invitation" recently. A movie about a man and his girlfriend on the way to meet his ex and friends for some sort of social reunion/get-together. Something isn't what it appears to be or is it his paranoia?

Another interest movie saw a few years back was "The Perfect Host". A bank robber needs to find somewhere to lie low for a night... Little does a know the metro awkward host has more going on than originally realized. The table's turn in a very creepy manner.

Another one of course was "Creep"; too disturbing to get into too much but essentially first person video of a loner being taken advantage of as engages in a back/forth interaction for a local job ad...

Other than that, I saw the movie "The Shrine" on Netflix. Not the greatest but classical foreigners enter taboo cursed area going into something beyond their understanding. Unusual mist within a certain area of the forest encombassing a demonic statue and a local cult to avoid at all costs are the idea here.

Saw "The Gift" not too long ago but didn't care for it much. It was well done but just kind of left me feeling meh with the way it ended and a bit frustrated with some of the characters.

I'll check out Neon Demon next. It looks like it could be ok. Haven't seen rest of Starry Eyes yet but will check that out. These movies make me think of 1 other movie I saw about 2-3 years back on Netflix. Some teenage girl was in an underground bunker (has some sort of dangerous powers); the movie felt really trippy like 2001 space odyssey and remember the doctor walking down some red hallway and took forever as shots were very slow moving and movie ends with her breaking out with her powers into the world with some sort of mind control or something. Kind of a weird trippy movie trying to find the name to if anyone can remember it. It kind of feels like that movie starring Scarlett Johansson where she's an alien kind of.

The only thing they really have in common is they're both about women in LA who are trying to advance their careers. They're very different otherwise. I liked both, but I prefer Starry Eyes.

Anybody here planning on checking out The Bye Bye Man today?

The last horror movies i've watched were "The Cabin the Woods" and "Let me In".

Both, simply, top notch

Oh man I watched Green inferno the other week. **** me is it bad! Some of the worst acting I have ever seen.

The Bye Bye Man is definitely a Netflix for me. It looks awful.
