The Horror Thread - Part 6

Anybody here planning on checking out The Bye Bye Man today?

I saw it yesterday the same day as I saw Sleepless and Monster Trucks.

Boy was it terrible AF.

I was originally going to say “you know those high school short projects that teenagers do sometimes? Well, this is another one of those.” No. I have personally seen better high school short films more creative than this. The Bye Bye Man isn’t just bland, but it’s insultingly bland. I don’t question how it was released to a silver screen because we get horror films similar to this released every year. Last year we had The Forest. 2015 we had The Gallows. What angers me is that last year was a damn near great year for horror with every film at least trying to put a new and creative spin on similar formulas. 2016 we had Lights Out which was creative. 2015 we had Unfriended which was albeit not scary, enticing throughout. This film, The Bye Bye Man is neither creative or enticing enough to be a competent horror movie. It’s just another lame diversion aimed at 13-year-old middle schoolers who never saw a real good horror movie wanting to get a cheap thrill.

Has anyone watched I Am The Pretty Thing That Lives in The House, Mercy or Clinical? They're Netflix originals, and the only two horror films I've seen from netflix where Hush which was awesome and Rebirth which is the worst film I watched in 2016 lol.

Decided to go back and re-examine Rob Zombie's two Halloween films. While the first is nowhere near perfect, I still honestly believe his second entry is the best addition to the series since the original. Obviously none of the sequels hold a candle to the original (very few horror movies do) but it actually makes sense of the whole brother/sister angle between Myers & Laurie. Not to mention it realistically handles the aftermath of how someone (Laurie) would deal with such trauma, and how damaged she'd be as a result.

I know a lot of people hate this interpretation of Myers because of how different he is, but as I've said before, I'll gladly take that over having him cry in front of his little niece, raping said niece when she was 14/15 years old and being involved in a cult that controls him.

All in all, RZH2 still ranks as one of my favorite horror movies ever.

Resident Evil The Final Chapter - 3/10. I don't even hate all these movies but it was so bad. Bad editing, flat characters, terrible CGI, and a build up to an underwhelming final boss that was far worse than any one from the other films. I can't say I expected much, but it still failed to meet those expectations.

so did Halloween H2O. there's nothing wrong with your opinion. but i'll stick to Halloween I, II, and H2O being one complete and perfect trilogy. Zombie's take is as lame as the thorn cult, imo.

There's nothing wrong with the way H20 portrays it, although that's only one way of presenting a severely traumatic individual, Zombie's interpretation is another. I'm not saying one is more accurate than the other, just that Zombie doesn't get the due credit.

And I'm sorry but no, nothing Zombie did is as bad as having Michael being the father of his own nephew (also making him a pedophile) and suddenly being able to be stopped by runes. Gotdamn runes, man. :o

Dirty bearded hobo Myers who talks and fantasizes about his dead mother and white horses, sell out a-hole Dr. Loomis, and druggy drunk *****y Laurie was worse than H6.

I'm going to see Rings this Friday. I have absolutely no expectations for this, if it's not absolutely abysmal it will be a positive surprise.

Yeah, because all of that is seriously worse than turning Michael into a pedophile. :whatever:

Happy 40th Anniversary to Dario Argento's Suspiria which opened exactly 40 years ago today in Italy.

I was really hoping that Synapse would have their 4K restoration of the film done by now to enjoy the anniversary by watching it on blu, but I guess it'll have to wait until the US release date anniversary this August.

we're still just talking degrees of crappiness. I don't acknowledge the runes storyline. but I might actually take it over girly-looking-kid-turned-Sabretooth-but-w/-mommy-fixation Shape. Zombie completely defanged the character. he wasn't a "shape." he was a white zombie roadie having a bad day.

The character was defanged when he cried in H5 & the follow-up trash in H6. At least Zombie tried actually exploring the psychological nature of the character. Maybe it's not to the liking of some, but everything he presented certainly makes more sense than Michael suddenly crying just because he removes his mask and then being revealed to being controlled by the same people that kept him contained at Smiths Grove. Or him getting karate kicked out of a window by Busta Rhymes.

Not to mention RZH2, in comparison to H5, H6 & Resurrection, actually has good performances from Scout Taylor-Compton, Danielle Harris and Brad Dourif.

Only bandwagon hate would seriously have anyone believe that Zombie's installments are worse (or anywhere near as bad as) H5, H6 & Resurrection.

:o

I agree. Not to mention the most un-original idea and path to explore for M. Myers is to make him an abused red neck who had a bad childhood.
Was there anything more cliche to show why he was a killer?
The mystery of him being an unstoppable monster is what makes him interesting.

Yeah, because all of that is seriously worse than turning Michael into a pedophile. :whatever:

Yeah it is, because it's defiling not one but three major Halloween characters.

Bandwagon hate for Letoker, now this. You need to come up with a new, not to mention plausible excuse for why people hate things you like.

How did it defile three characters? Because he didn't decide to do an unoriginal copy of what came before? Because he explored different territory?

Was Scout supposed to just copy Jamie Lee Curtis? Should Mane and McDowell have just copied Nick Castle and Donald Pleasence respectively? Of course not. And if they had, you'd still be complaining anyway.

It's very plausible because that's exactly what it is. Especially when you consider all the things I brought up to be better than what Zombie brought to the table even though it clearly isn't.

You need to come up with a new angle other than showing up specifically to disagree with me.

Oh and kudos for finding another way to bring up Leto's Joker even though he has nothing to do with anything here. That's always awesome. :cwink:

Good day. :yay:
