So I hadn't seen this yet before and since I saw last year's 2019 remake during its theatrical run, wanted to check the original out. After seeing the 1989 original, I think I'd have to say I prefer the 2019 remake over it. I guess the 1989 movie is fine for what it is, and it's not "terrible" per se, but I felt it was a merely passable movie and very average. Although it had its share of moments, as a film it came across as shoddily made overall and didn't "flow" very well, with the writing contributing to story beats & scenes that made no sense. The 2019 movie, on the other hand, flowed a lot better and didn't have the same problem with scenes not making sense. Also I feel that the 2019 movie, even though it's not great either, is just better-made, with better cinematography, better acting, better music & sound, better atmosphere (as in properly dark & creepy throughout), and IMO, a creepier cat playing Church. Not that 1989's resurrected Church cat wasn't creepy, but 2019's resurrected Church cat has it all over 1989's as the superior creepy cat. For context, I'd probably rate the 2019 movie at 7/10.
15. Silver Bullet [1985] 7/10
I hadn't seen this movie before yet either and was pleasantly surprised at how much better-made it was than the 1989 Pet Sematary, as it was clearly better and more tightly written, with more solid and 3D characters, a cast that was actually likeable, better directing, and a more effective tone/atmosphere. I think this is now the oldest movie I've seen Gary Busey in, so it was initially jarring to see him look so young, but clearly he's been chewing scenery ever since then.

This movie was pretty much an entertaining, if sometimes a bit campy, thrill ride that was just plain fun to watch, even though it sorta became predictable. I'll definitely watch this one again! This movie also made me realize that we need more werewolf movies in the horror genre. The last one I saw was The Wolfman from 2010 which was actually pretty good, and I watched that last year. About time for a new werewolf movie I think!
16. The Witch [2015] 10/10
I first saw this movie during its theatrical run, and because the dialog was spoken entirely in Olde English, I missed quite a bit of it. That said, I loved the film on that first viewing and finally bought the Blu-Ray last year when it was discounted during Black Friday 2019.
So tonight was my second viewing on Blu-Ray with subtitles, which allowed me to catch all of the dialog this time. And seeing it at home on Blu-Ray really let me appreciate the movie that much more, and made me realize that this movie is just masterfully made in pretty much every aspect. Everything about it is just so on point and artfully done, and for me it's a perfect encapsulation of a 17th century "period" horror movie. Absolutely love this movie and will watch it every year.
I was hoping to also watch The Conjuring from 2013 tonight, which is a film that I also love and one of my favorites in the genre, but since it's getting late, think I'll just call it a night. That's all for me this year! Although I'll probably do another "horror" movie round in January 2021.
