Hm? I had the movie better in my memory, but this was really bad.
In terms of remaking/rebooting the big four, this i think is the worst of the bunch.
Even worse than the nightmare on elm street movie.

The dialogue is cringeworthy, the characters super annoying.
While the locations and setting look nice, nothing about the movies look has character or style.
The action constantly is met with a shaky cam style which at times makes it hard to say what happens...and was kevin dunn the guy who editied this thing(for those who dont know, kevin dunn works at the wwe in the production and is to blame for 10234235 camera cuts every minute of the shows XD)
The nudity is so immature that it was embarrassing too.
That one scene where Jason kills the girl under the footbridge was so dumb...there was no reason to have her being lifted up so much, hit her head on the footbridge just to have her boobs shown.

The one good thing i would say, is the look of jason and the idea of making him more a hunter.
Dont get me wrong, i like slow walking jason...but this jason felt fresh and more terrifying.
Especially since Derek Mears does a good job in making everything Jason does, feel so aggressiv.

Surprised at how little fun i had, i remembered the movie far better, but this wasnt good.

Figured I might as well kick off a series of posts with the horror movies I've watched and will watch this month. Already wrote about Pyscho Goreman before (The Horror Thread - Part 7), the 4 new ones are all ones I watched via the Mile High Horror Film Festival earlier this month.

1. Pyscho Goreman [2020] 8/10
2. Alone [2020] 9/10

Very well-made suspense thriller type of movie that was very tense and harrowing all the way through. The basic premise is a "cat and mouse" game between the lead female protagonist versus a (serial?) killer that's more humanized than usual in these types of movies. Sort of a tough watch, as it's frighteningly realistic in its portrayal of the circumstances, but still recommended for those who enjoy a solid "will to survive" type of story.

3. The Cleansing Hour [2019] 7/10

Yup I saw this too and thought it was unexpectedly well-made despite an obvious low budget with VERY obvious CGI. The basic plot revolves around a "fake" pastor who stages fake exorcisms for a TV show, but ends up facing an actual demon possession. Most of what made this good was the writing & directing, as it had an unusual & interesting premise that led to some unexpected twists and a pretty solid ending that most people probably won't see coming. Definitely an entertaining watch overall. And its ending quite honestly kicked some ass too. Been a while since I've seen a horror movie that ended with a bang!

4. Fried Barry [2017/2020] 4/10

Apparently this movie has gotten a lot of critical raves, but this movie turned me off within the first half hour. IMO this would've been a LOT better if it was made as a short film (i.e. 15-20 minutes), rather than full-length. It got to the premise quickly and then kinda just lost steam, since the lead character was pretty much one-note and just kept doing the same thing throughout the movie. Got boring really fast.

5. Unearth [2020] 8/10

Fairly well-made movie that felt VERY Lovecraftian in a general sense, and played on a theme where the horror was (ahem) lurking beneath the characters. Felt more like a serious character-driven drama than a horror film, but there was definite horror in the second half that made up for the lack in the first half. For those who don't mind a slower-paced Lovecraftian-esque film (it definitely reminded me of the recent Colour Out Of Space along with Alex Garland's Annihilation), this hits most of the same notes, but just told differently.

16. Scream 1

Ah, still so good.
One reason why its not one of my favorite slasher franchise, is the fact that the Killer reveal always dissapointed me a bit.
Which is not the movies faults, its just how this kind of stuff is.
I cant really remember a time where the answer to a riddle was satisfying, because the thrill of the possibilites is just that much more fun.
Thats why im super excited for the other Scream movies, because i honestly dont remember who the killer there is.
Its been so long since i watched any Scream movie, so that makes things quite exciting again.

31 Nights of Halloween (yes, I'm still doing this)

08. Don't Let Them In
09. Silent Night, Bloody Night
10. The Evil Dead
11. Evil Dead 2

I will catch up. Eventually. Try to get 2 or 3 flicks in today if I can stay awake.

Oy.

Oh great, that must be quite interesting for you!

Don't know if I asked this here already or not but I'm gonna ask anyway.

When I was younger I saw a movie that started on a highway in a mountainous area and people riding motorcycles, a biker gang. This gang was then run down by an 18 Wheeler semi truck and they were turned into ground beef. They then cut to a funeral for one of the women who were riding on the back of a motorcycle. She was wearing a white wedding dress in a glass coffin and her face was stitched up to put it back together.

I have no idea what this movie is and it's been stuck in the back of my mind for years now and I just wanna know what it is or if I just made it up and I need to write the rest of this movie.

The movie you're describing sounds like Dellamorte Dellamore with Rupert Everett (released in English as Cemetery Man). It features a scene like that, check it out at 33:42 to 36:21.

Suprisingly good, despite the fact that i have expected something different.
I somehow was expecting some tim burton style fantasy horror...which it wasnt.
But it was still rather enjoyable with the whole idea etc.
The final was at some point expected, but still...pretty neat movie.
But damn you, i want a dark and moody fantasy horror sleeping beauty adaption now more than ever.XD

Saw this last night at a local theater showing via Alamo Drafthouse, and knew nothing about the movie going in. Even for an 80s movie it was a bit campier than expected, as some of the characters' death scenes ended up being funnier than the filmmakers probably intended. Probably the best thing the movie had going for it was the atmosphere, as it was consistently creepy and had some mood-setting imagery. There was a sex scene that stood out, because....well they just don't make sex scenes like they used to back then. The audience (of maybe 15-20 people?) got a good uncomfortable chuckle out of it because there was a top-down shot of the sex going on, which showed a totally naked and extremely oiled up young woman (who was 20 years old when the movie came out, so she was pretty dang young) literally writhing on top of a considerably older man. And the woman's (ahem) lower parts were clearly visible, even from behind. So, yeah. Not exactly a scene that's going to be un-seen anytime soon. ;) Anyway, sort of an odd horror movie but it was also weirdly entertaining and certifiably creepy.

7. Brahms: The Boy II 7/10

So I'd heard some bashing of this movie before, and was well-aware going in that it retconned the first movie's ending. That said, this was better than I thought it would be. I mean yeah, the execution could've been better, but like the above movie, this was also suitably creepy and delivered the atmosphere. I ended up wishing the movie had gone even further and pulled fewer punches with the supernatural element. Most of the recent "horror doll" movies like this one, Annabelle, etc, and Dead Silence to an extent, have never done much with the concept. And I'm not asking for a Chucky-type movie where the doll has a personality, just a movie where the doll is shown moving on its own and doing creepier things than having shifty eyes. Perhaps one day someone will come up with a better idea around a horror-movie doll.

Eh, not as good as the idea sounds.
And found footage style isnt that high on my list of styles.

Well that's like picking Catwoman and saying superhero movies aren't your thing. There are so many better found footage movies than the Gallows.

Of course, there are really good ones out there for sure, but in this type of genre/style, i dont go out of my way to give them a longer leash than i do with others.
If they do good i enjoy them, but i dont really put a lot of effort into defending questionable things they do.

I dont know, its just not a style i really fell in love with yet.

I underrate the movie quite a lot.
It sits on my shelf without being considered too much, its really solid and some stuff makes me always jump.

Last night I rewatched both "I Know What You Did Last Summer" films. The sequel has a very very poor reception but I need to admit that it has a PERFECT setting and atmosphere. The rainy, secluded and desolated paradise taps exactly into my previous comments about how a really good sense of creepy isolation works wonderfully with me, and I Still Know... is the perfect example.
