Depending on the creative team, Jason either runs or walks. Or teleports, if one considers the logistics of how much ground he covers, without being seen.

I want to believe Jason leaps around like the Hulk to get where he's going. He's just really light on his feet when he lands, explaining why he makes no sound.

Final Destination is pretty consistent throughout all five films, I think. I'd even consider 5 one of the very best.

Final Destination was great and I enjoyed the sequel. They lost me with the third and fourth film , but I thought five was good. I also thought it had one of the best twist endings in the genre.

I prefer several SAW sequels over the original and liked Jigsaw better when I got to know more about the character.

I think SAW is by far the best long-running series in horror history and one of my favorite movie franchises in general. Not a bad one in the bunch, even the much despised SAW VII (or SAW 3D, or The Final Chapter, or whatever) is pretty entertaining with a nice wrap up for the series.

I'm a fan of the SAW series and thought it stood out as one of the most consistently well written horror series of all time. The traps were great , but for me it was more about the chase. I was hoping a detective would finally stop and outsmart the Jigsaw killer. I was disappointed by the last film. I thought SAW 7 had some good ideas , but the acting and dialogue were poor.

I agree with you. A puppet doesn't instill the same sense of helplessness and fear as something that can chase you and can kill you (in contrast to the traps which, while twisted, are something you'd have to be lured into).

I recently watched Nightbreed on YT. Has anyone seen it, and what are your thoughts? The monsters all looked great, though I found it hard to root for anyone. The Decker character is similar to Cillian Murphy's Scarecrow from the Dark Knight Trilogy.

I really like Nightbreed and I'm glad I watched it before I ever read Cabal from Clive Barker. If I had read the book first I might have been wanting more from the movie, but overall it's a fun film. I'm still crossing my fingers that they'll release that director's cut on Blu-ray in the future.

Not sure if you noticed Alligator, but Decker is played by director David Cronenberg.

I picked up Rue Morgue Magazine's 200 alternative horror films you need to see and I've been going through the list on netflix ( I got sidetracked though).

Alligator is on there.. It's been years since I've seen that film.

is that list online?

EDIT: found the list online. im shocked by what isnt on that list. no cronenberg? no lucio fulci? no slumber party massacre?

I remember seeing it and its sequel back when I was a kid.

anyone else prefer suspense driven films like orphanage and insidious over just straight horror like saw or hostel

i prefer suspense over gore

I prefer a suspenseful/thriller driven horror film than something that relies on gore and the like. I'll take a movie like Silence of the Lambs and Seven over Hostel any day.

I can't relate to any character in lambs or seven. That's my big issues all the time. As a stoner construction worker I really do need your bland characters to relate to. That's just me as a normal loser American.

I don't see how the former are any less "horror" than the latter.

Sidenote, The Conjuring is getting very good reviews. While only 13 reviews are counted so far on RT, only 1 is rotten and so far it has been 100% Fresh among Top Critics.

It is likely to drop, but it would be interesting to see a horror film end up as one of the highest rated films of the summer!

I love both suspense or gore. Sometimes both. It really depends on what the story they are trying to tell.

I don't see how a ghost film is in any way suspenseful.

When I watch a ghost related or supernatural horror movie all I see are jump scares...now a days, ghost horror from the 80s are amazing tho.

Gore I don't mind in proper context. Evil Dead gore where it's a monster/supernatural creature, that's fine to me. It's something not human that is killing people. Gore from torturing someone (there is no shortage of examples in this subgenre) by another person I don't find entertaining.

There are of course points inbetween where that line blurs and you can't definitively say one is more acceptable than another but on the whole, people on people gore/horror doesn't interest me.

In a sense your saying a person killing another person isn't scary ?

I think they meant more a person torturing another person.

There are times when I think I have been desensitized to violence due to my love of horror, but then I'll see a film that just makes be go WTF and disturbs the living hell out of me and I realize that I haven't been at all.

IMO then that film as done its job.

I guess I'm a gore fiend lol I love gore. Nothing truly can scare me. But if you Gross me out that's amazing. And I'm not saying I need peopling dying, Drag me to hell only one person dies and I think it's one of the greatest horror movies ever. I'm just not scared of little demon ghost or doors opening idk.

No, it can be very scary. I think the problem is it can be too realistic. At least modern movies are more realistic in their depictions of the gore. Even movies that are realistic in their gore but have a monster or something doing the job can be excessive.

I feel it's the combination of you can believe a human could do that to another human being versus the knowledge a monster isn't real and therefore that couldn't really happen to a human.

Another contradictory factor is it does feel mundane sometimes. Someone killing someone else, even in a graphic way doesn't have a thrill or excitement to me. That's just a psychopath killing another person.

There are humans mutilating/goring up other humans movies I like but I'm just not a fan of the more modern takes on it. I'm a big fan of Dexter for instance. It's not horror but it is a psychopath who kills other people who themselves are usually psychopathic. Not as gory as most movies though.

I kind of understand and think I know what your saying. Your a fan of horror just not a fan of very descripted gore. I can understand that.

Halloween(78 come on is ther any other one lol) is the greatest horror movie of all time. It doesn't show lots of gore or deaths, but is very real and scary and well done.

The remakes scene with kid Michael beat the living hell out of the kid from spy kids was long and some say its to long and gory I on the other think it was a way of showing how Michael went from being a cat killer to full blown horror jesus. I've hated the remake for years now I kind of respect it.

I understand not everyone likes gore or likes overly violent movies.

But for me ghost are neither scary nor creative.

Gore itself isn't the problem but the context. It is hard to explain. I don't care for the "up close and prolonged" exposure form of gore, no matter what is doing it although in my experience it's typically the so-called "torture porn" genre where it's people on people.

Those are the broad strokes though. I am more a fan of the monster/supernatural horror than the man is the monster kind of horror. I do like both but I have a stronger preference to true monsters than the human monster.

I just need something to happen in a horror movie. It feels with all The Blum produced type horror is all just boring and nothing's happening.

I love monster movies. Not ghost for me it's a big difference.

Ghost movies are my least favorite style of horror film. As mentioned above, it's just jump scares and those are GARBAGE. There's nothing creative or entertaining about a loud music cue startling an audience.

Has there every been a ghost movie that uses the ghost's backstory to reveal something horrid about his/her past, and the protagonist? That seems the best way to use a ghost.
