It had one ballsy ending. That's for sure.

The Ring or 28 Days later definitely both have a pretty solid claim for that title. Trick R Treat is without a doubt in the mix as well.

Final Destination 1 and 2 are pretty fantastic and I've watched both countless times. FD2 has probably the best car wreck scene of any movie.

I am a big fan of Jeepers Creepers. The sequel was also very enjoyable.

I don't know if I'd ever call them great movies but I have soft spot for House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil's Rejects. Corpses especially just gets under my skin and freaks me out.

Though I hate the rest of the series and the trend that it began, I will always go to bat for the first Saw. It is a tight, well crafted movie.

13 Ghosts is just kind of ridiculous enough to be memorable.

The first Silent Hill film is surprisingly good.

LOVE these movies!

I also have a soft spot for Gothika. That's a good ol' time.

Great movie. Great ending.

Happy endings in horror movies should be illegal. :hehe:

The Mist is a damn classic.

- Amazing, memorable villain.
- Solid writing/directing from Frank Darabont.
- One of the best Stephen King adaptations ever.
- A mind-blowing ending, perhaps unprecedented.

That ending is so unique because it's not trying to go for a "Gotcha!" twist like The Sixth Sense or The Village or other movies with a twist. That whole "Haha, you weren't paying attention the whole time... It was right there before your eyes and you weren't looking."

This twist does not depend on the rest of the film before it. The twist is singular, yet ties in with the theme/concept of the film - it does not decide what the movie is.

Just fantastic.

The Shawshank Redemption
The Green Mile
The Mist
Misery
Stand By Me
Cujo
1408
Dolores Claiborne
Storm of the Century

I'm not surprised that The Shining isn't on there... but my Top 10 would easily be this:

The Shawshank Redemption
The Green Mile
The Mist
The Shining
Carrie

Misery
Stand By Me
Cujo
Pet Sematary

Have you guys seen Session 9? It has atmosphere in spades but ultimately the story is a let down.

Some ridiculous David Caruso lines though. The movie is ultimately fun to watch with friends.

Yeah, totally agree. Well said, man.

How about the worst?

I nominate White Noise.

Yeah, it's pretty decent. I mean, it has its problems and the whole thing feels a little "syfy original movie" but it's still pretty good.

And yeah, some of Caruso's bits are insane.

Listening to the audio of the sessions was freaking creepy as hell. :wow:

The Descent is my #1 movie of all time, so definitely #1 since 2000.

Hannibal, Jeepers Creepers, Hills Have Eyes, I Spit on Your Grave, Black Swan, Let the Right One In/Let Me In...

are some of my other favorites.

Good pick, that movie was terrible.

Ummmm... just off the top of my head, Rob Zombie's Halloween 2. An insult to Carpenter's masterpiece and a travesty of a film in it's own right...

Eh, I don't mind White Noise. I fully support anything Michael Keaton is in :hrt:. It was an average, PG-13 supernatural teen movie for me.

The worst would definitely be:

Prom Night (Remake)
One Missed Call (American remake)
Shutter (American remake)
The Ring Two
... and an infinite number of worse movies.

I HATE that movie. :cmad:

Actually the twist at the end about what happens to the guy's family kind of disturbed me for a while after. I thought it was a pretty creepy and good movie when I re-watched it later.

Maniac is on VOD.

Begging for you guys to watch it. Its so friggin good.

As a huge King fan who has read most of his work, I have to say that this list is on the money.

I'm surprised he didn't throw in Maximum Overdrive since he directed it himself. :woot: That is a movie I really enjoy despite being fairly bad.

I think The Stand TV Mini-series was ok.

Tommyknockers was terrible.

The remake?
Yup... I'm in NJ so I got to see it at the NYC IFC center. It was pretty cool to see in a 60 seat theater because that over the top gore was right in your face. I'm not sure how many of those are around but the remake is on On Demand and ITunes.

I've been up and down the boards pimping this flick for the sole reason that this is the kind of horror that needs to make money. Not the mindless PG-13 crap that backs into money like WWZ.
