The Horror Thread

Depends on who you ask, but I think it's really good.

And no, my unhealthy obsession with Amber Heard has nothing to do with it.

I know I have said this before on the Hype, but you know what I would REALLY love? A "fighting" game that uses horror icons. I know that it would never happen, due to copyrights and all that, but could you imagine a Mortal Kombat-like game featuring...

Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers, Leatherface, Pinhead, Chucky, The Leprechaun, Ash (complete with chainsaw hand and boomstick, of course), and whoever else they can get in there?

There is one. :)

My friend has one of those custom built arcades that has 100's if not thousands of games on it and there is a fighting game with a lot of the horror icons. They even had Maniac Cop from what I can remember. Sadly I don't remember the name but i'm sure you can google it.

I would love to find a downloadable copy online and get a one of those adapters that let you use a console controller on your PC.

You can play as Freddy with DLC for Mortal Kombat . Sadly its the Jack Earl Haley version though.

There is one. I think it was fan made, but I had stumbled across it by accident while I was searching for horror movie stuff on the internet. I don't remember the name of the game, but it is available for download. I might try and find it and post a link on here later. Unfortunately my computer is dead and I need to buy a new one. I'm posting this with my BlackBerry.

Incidentally, there's also a Halloween video game, also fan made, where you get to play as Michael Myers. It's kind of done in a "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider/Silent Hill" gaming style. I think it's still a work in progress, but a prototype of that's available for download as well.

Check this out.

Apparently this game even includes online play.

You guys, I downloaded that game, its free and its pretty incredible. Its pretty much everything Donnie Darko described wanting. Took some time to figure out the controls but there is a decent roster of available characters and all of them have some neat attacks.

Ash is way too damn slow though.

Never would I have thought to put the old man from Phantasm in a fighting game.

The Tall Man is awesome. :woot:

I can't click that link since I'm at work, but is Pinhead in the game? When my friend and I played this, he wasn't released yet and I'm not sure if it was official or just a rumour that they were going to put him in the game.

Pinhead and Pumpkinhead are currently in development. The last update is from 6 months ago said Pinhead was almost completely done, but it has yet to be released.

Nice! That's great they're putting Pumpkinhead in as well. Now if only that movie would be released on Blu-ray. :cmad:

Well this is awesome.

I hope they put some never-before-scene extras.

There's an Army of Darkness tower defense game for Android that's pretty fun. I don't know if it's available for iphones or not

Side rant.

I love the low budget horror flicks of the late 70s and 1980s. A good horror movie shouldnt have that high of a budget, imo. If a movie seems too professional looking, it takes me out of it. A movie with a bunch of horny teenagers getting cut up seems more real to me than a FX extravaganza. There is just something very primal about sex and death.

That said, I do enjoy the "high art" horror movies. Silence of the Lambs, The Exorcist, Rosemary's Baby, etc. A horror movie can be really a great metaphor when it is done right.

You know what movie I saw for the first time a couple years back and loved?

Hell Night

Could anyone who's keeping up with recent horror flicks tell me who are current, interesting directors to look after?

Has anyone seen "Deranged"? Based on the Ed Gein story (who also inspired Psycho, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Silence of the Lambs) it's a pretty good and scary horror film.

There are like 4-5 movies based Ed Gein aren't there?

At least. There are even a couple of biodramas about his life. I watched the one entitled Gein, which I felt was pretty good. It kind of gave you a peek inside his psyche. The other one, Ed Gein starring Kane Hodder in the title role, I never bothered to watch. It looked like a far too sensationalized version of his story. The real story is scary enough that it doesn't need to be "improved upon" by Hollywood.
