One of my friends had a midnight ticket to go see The Hunger Games, but she may not be able to go, so I may end up with a ticket. Fingers crossed!

I found that strange to Speed. Usually at this point they have a consensus up.

I went to check my schedule last night and asked our manager how many tickets we've sold for The Hunger Games' midnight shows. We've sold 740 tickets, and our theater can roughly pack up to 1,400-1,500 people if each theater is full.

I'm going to be real busy tonight.

I believe it. When I got my tickets last weekend, the lady next to me was also getting Hunger Games tickets, and the guy was telling her that the midnight IMAX show was already sold out and they were expecting to have showings in most, if not all, of the other theaters (there are 17 at this theater). They're expecting it to be pretty crazy.

My folks have tickets for tomorrow morning. My mom is so excited (she flew through all three books about a month ago) that she even bought a Hunger Games t-shirt to wear to the show. :oldrazz:

Consensus
Thrilling and superbly acted, The Hunger Games captures the dramatic violence, raw emotion, and ambitious scope of its source novel.

88 % now with 115 positive - 15 negative

Anyone here worried about seeing tonight's midnight show? I really don't want any of the fangirls to disrupt the movie in any way (talking, giggling, awwwwwing, etc.....). Really though, how do we prevent this from happening? Get the theater manager to make a warning about it before the show starts?

If you want to avoid the giant crowds I'd watch it early on Saturday morning. I'm sticking to that plan and I figure it'll be calmer than it would be during the premiere.

It all depends on how eager you are to watch the movie. If you already have your tickets just go with it and enjoy yourself. I think you'll be surprised to how respectful they'll be during the movie.

Fans tend to respect the movie and not talk through as they're trying to savor every minute of the film. I wouldn't worry to much about it. ;)

Actually, I was way more touched by the deaths in Battle Royale than those in the Hunger Games.
In Battle Royale, the kids have a history together. They are classmates, some of them are friends, lovers...
In the Hunger Games, only one death kind of touched me and it was more because of the age of the person.
But yeah, Hunger Games is not about teen violence. I don't even think it's that violent.

What the author borrowed from Battle Royale is the concept of the games, but she added the poverty/starvation theme and the concept of Panem and the districts which I think was a really good idea.
And there's the whole reality tv/sponsors thing which is completely dumb in my opinion.
And of course, the big romance.

I like the Hunger Games like a guilty pleasure, but I think Battle Royale is better.
In your opinion, Battle Royale is just an excuse for lots of bloodshed, in my opinion, the Hunger Games are just an excuse for a teenage romance.

I haven't seen Hunger Games to really comment on which is better. However I will say that Battle Royale is a realistic portrayal of teen violence and characters do feel a range of emotions and aren't just slaughter happy psychos. Also there were subplots involving romance. It's graphic but I wouldn't downplay it's story either. I really like that film.
Although it's a similar concept I'll go in tomorrow with an open mind. I didn't get a chance to read the book. I bought it for my gf , who just finished it and seems excited but she didn't hand it back to me in time.

dont know why people compare this to twilight

i am on chapter 16 atm and there is zero romance

There is definitely romance but it feels very raw and very real.

Yeah, it's kinda dumb how it's being called the next Twilight. It'll be funny if down the line Twilight ends up being refereed to as a poor mans Hunger Games.

I wish they would just call it a mix between THX1138/Battle Royale and a tinge of 1984. As that is what it seems to be.

But no, Twilight has to be mentioned for the sensationalism. :(

I've been to a few midnight shows. Even during the biggest one (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2), the patrons were respectful, didn't text or talk during the film, and only laughed and cheered at appropriate moments.

I can't say that applies to all midnight shows throughout the U.S.., but I imagine The Hunger Games won't draw the same level of hysterical fangirl behavior the other Lionsgate-owned franchise does. If you do encounter a noisy or uncooperative group, you should report them.

The thing is, I love midnight shows. The crowd is pumped up and its all an excuse for the hardcore fans to get together and see it at the same time. The energy in the room is fantastic.

But this is different. I've seen the way fangirls react to this franchise and similarly to the Twilight films as well. It's embarassing and intrusive. I really hope things don't get out of hand lol.

Well, I'm about to go to work for this midnight show. I'll let you guys know if there are any crazy Twilight-esque fans in attendance...

Yeah it may not be great with all the girls cheering but honestly its no different than all the comic geeks cheering during a midnight show of like Iron Man or Captain America. The worst is when they cheer when the hero first suits up, its like please shut up and watch the movie.

You'll probably get that. I was at Union Sq in NyC the other night and they apparently had some of the cast at the Barnes n Noble. All I heard were fan girls. I'd avoid going at midnight at all costs if you don't want to hear that crap. I learned my lesson from Harry Potter. I'll just go see it Saturday afternoon.

Exactly.

The cheering goes on for about 5 seconds. The crying/weeping/overreacting goes on for the whole scene. But yeah, please shut up and watch the movie.

Funniest thing I seen, was when I went to see Immortals, and when the chick took off her clothes, all the guys in the theaters started whooping and cat calling.

Other odd moment was in Return of the King, when Legolas shows up, all the girls screamed.

But the best, (this is why I love going to see thrillers with a large crowd, it is really fun) was the audience during The Ring and Paranormal Activity. The first, when the girl starts coming out of the TV, the reaction was terrific. And in PA, when you could see the footprints through the powder, it was also a chilling moment.

And then recently, the audience reaction to Caesar's famous "NO" was also great. I guess it's a toss up with the audience, sometimes they are great, and sometimes they just get stupid.
