The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013) - Part 1

Just the idea that it already sold more tickets than IM3 (3D ticket boosted gross) domestically some time ago makes me smile. I don't care so much about gross so much as popularity expressed in tickets sold.

And Iron Man 3 still wins overall but it's amazing how well Catching Fire did domestically. Gravity, Catching Fire and Frozen not to mention the success of The Heat is proof positive that women can lead more than romantic comedies or romantic films in general. I love movies starring dudes but I'd like a few more blockbusters led by women.
:up::awesome::up:

Catching Fire did great as a sequel in having it's own identity while still maintaining DNA of the first film.

As I hadn't liked anything by him before this, I never knew Francis Lawrence had it in him to do such greatness. The directing by him really shined. Varied, with a sense of purpose. Great timing and pay-offs.

kryptonian WW ?
That is speculation from the writer of the article that was somehow turned into a rumor or insider scoop. He even had to reiterate it was his own personal speculation. Fortunately there's no truth to it.

413 million domestic. Biggest domestic movie of the year. Impressive.

I am sorry for reposting this but I swear this is the last thread I will be reposting it at cuz it's relevant.

Jennifer Lawrence basically got robbed for not even nominated for Katniss Everdeen in Catching Fire, (I thought she basically was the BEST Actress in that movie rather than American Hustle) I don't care if you agree with me or not, she was a FORCE OF NATURE/THE BEST of all the actresses this year in Hunger Games: Catching Fire (Better than Cate Blanchett, Better than Sandra Bullock those two can NOT beat Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss, I am sorry), so I felt her lesser impressive role in American Hustle win was more than fair deal, since she wasn't even considered for CF! I was so worried she wouldn't get it cuz her REAL shine was Catching Fire, and not really American Hustle. Thank God she did won so this awesome girl can be happy. When Jennifer Lawrence is happy, good things happen to this world, period. ;)

GOD I LOVE EVERYTHING about her acting in Hunger Games: Catching Fire!!!!! Not one millisecond was bad!

Eh...I actually don't think she's done anything as Katniss that any other capable actress couldn't do (keyword "capable"). The character is just a well written character and I didn't see anything in JLaws performance that warrants a nomination for anything other than maybe a Scream award, this coming from a fan.

You agree with who?

CB_Fan, are you kidding? If was very very amazingly acted! And, you meant the movie or Jennifer Lawrence?

Trust me, I am a huge movie guru, I watch a lot of movies, and I think she is very rare actress who can act out many awesome scenes other actors absolutely can't!

i think it's kinda both. Katniss is very well written, but JL makes her very well acted too. she does a more than capable performance. i don't believe that many people could be that strong in a film where they're on screen 90% of the time. it's very hard to do and i think she did it well.

it's probably insignificant but i think one of my favorite parts of her performance in CF is when she's watching Snow on tv with her family and he reveals the tributes of the 75th Hunger Games will be selected from previous winners. Just watching her watching this, realizing what he's saying and just her face and her reaction, rising from the couch. that was just very strong and memorable to me

To CB Fan,

I really think that they went above the call of duty with the casting of j-law. To deny it is just a total lack of understanding of how lucky we are to have her as Katniss.

I do agree that Jen's performance is more than that of a "capable" actress, and that they really struck the jackpot when they cast her for the role. That said, I don't really think it's and Oscar-worthy role/performance, either.

JLaw did a good job but in my opinion the performance is not nearly as great as many make it out to be, it is not oscar worthy.

Define Oscar-worthy then, she had everything as far as emotions and facial expressions, crying, anger, and playfulness are concerned in CF. Just because it's Action movie, means it can't be Oscar-worth worthy?

Not to deny that she's great and how lucky that this series got her but it's not like she isn't getting any attention, THG's a huge successful series and her not being nominated won't take anything away, she'll still be great.

There's plenty of performances from last year that isn't getting anywhere close to the notice they deserved.

She is definitely hands-down better in this than in American Hustle (which is where she is getting acclaim for).

415 million. I swear this is the most under talked about top movie of the year ever. Where do you guys feel it will end up domestic wise?

its a bad directed and paced movie. thats why.

acting and story is good.

I dont' get why the 'Mockingbird' thread was locked JUST NOW. And it had some cool news and stuff tucked in there.

Why can't the mods merge that one with this one, to make one full HG thread?

It shouldn't have been closed. There was another repeat thread for Mockingjay before that was merged into it. Maybe another mod came along after it was merged and mistook the report for the merge and closed the original thread? Someone should be along to remedy it I'm sure.

I've PM Hunter Rider about that, but before I knew it was a mistake done by another MOD. You may want to PM him too.
