haven't read the books but i thought it was pretty good! 8/10.

Solid acting, cool sci-fi tech and premise, its as some said, Running Man for teens is probably a laughable comparison but you get the idea. Even for its PG13 rating it was still violent and disturbing to see kids killing kids. Even when it was just implied deaths that happen off screen with blood curdling screams.

I found some of the tech that happens in the Arena to be a little too advanced for whatever century in the future this takes place in. The author of the books definitely borrowed from classic techno and sci-fi thrillers from the 70's and 80's but kudos to director Gary Ross, it sounds like this was a faithful adaptation and the visuals (this is the guy who made pleasantville) were great. James Newton Howard's score was awesome. Every actor, especially the veterans, made you believe in the outrageous idea of the tournament as it is presented to the high society of the un-oppressed of the capitol as entertainment. This is a future that probably will never happen, but it's the messages beneath the surface that made it relevant and kept your attention. Ended far too quick, perhaps based on the bet (a well made gamble) that they'll be making the next two movies to answer those questions.

I'd actually like to go see it again ;)

I never read the books and the trailers IMO were very meh-ish
So why should I see this movie?

Because its good and dark , and very well acted ..... The comparisons to Twilight are absurd

Unfortunately, you'll have to make that decision yourself, because we don't know control your decisions. Free will and all that.

Id say thats because she is forcing most of them.

Well I meant the stuff with Rue, Gale and some with Peeta. Maybe it's because ishe had very little interaction with both Rue and Gale. Also her and Peeta didn't even speak as much as they did to each other in the books. I don't know. I'm trying not to nitpick, I liked the movie bug like I said, something just felt off.

because it might surprise you. i was in the same boat, haven't read the books and thought the trailers were weak. It ended up being a pretty decent sci-fi with a lot of powerful moments given the premise. If you don't like sci-fi or the positive reviews in this thread than I'd say skip it.

I'm lost guys.

What exactly is the huge fuss over this film? I had never even heard of the franchise until the trailer first went online. I never even once considered going to see it.

You mean no one called you to let you know it was being made?

For shame, Hollywood. For shame.

Honestly, I doubt I will. Nothing in the trailer got me interested.

The premise sounds like "Running Man" for tweens.

I saw Running Man in the theater when I was a tween. This movie was better.

i guess I should have worded it differently....i guess I am asking if this is a movie worthwhile for a non fan to go to

well a movie does'nt get 86% on RT with over 200 reviews if it sucks

but we also dont have your same opinions and views

good movie. Jennifer gave an amazing performance. i liked almost all characters. maybe a little cliche in some parts but i liked it. i even liked Peeta.

Garry Ross on the other hand . i must have missed it. but is Garry Ross blind or what? did he ever heard of wide composition? using wide shots to establish the environment and give us better orientation? what? everything needs to be a shaky close up Garry? i saw some shots that were so bad that Garry Ross should be ashamed. ashamed . the forest is already a very complicated location to film. and he doesnt respect us enough to give is more wide shots?
a big mistake was how the movie ends. it should end with Katniss and Peeta. and not the presidendt. this is not a tv show

9/10. Jennifer Lawrence was so good that i will for now ignore everything else.9/10 because she is that good. give this girl more movies. she is amazing.

I disagree. I knew people would think Shakey shots wouldn't work but I felt like it used very well, as it respresented had shown the craziness of battle and how quick it could all end.

I feel as though Ross also wanted to give an intimate feel of the battle and establishing shots would ruin the fog of war feel of the forrest.

I think shaky cam can work at times, but I just thought Ross used too much of it. I knew it was bad when I had to get my eyes to focus on all the cards Katniss got because they were steady shots.

It definitely got to be a bit much. I don't think he needs to cut out, but limit how much it's used in the next film.

I'm hoping to see this today granted it's not sold out anywhere.

I live in a college town, and my buddy and I went at the 1:40 showing, we got there 10mins before the movie started and got in fine. The theater was still packed, but we got in. So I'd recommend a mid-day showing.

thats what i thought too a running man for teens judging from the bland trailer.i never read the books or heard of it either with potter ending and twilight near ending this looks like the next big franchise!

Feels like Hollywood's forcing the heir apparent to those previous tween book-to-film conversions via Hunger Games.

I just can never get into the tween theme, no matter if they dress it up with sci-fi or not.

with all due respect. in the first 10 minutes there was no battle. and the camera was shaking like someone was on drugs.

i understand why he used it when the battle begins. it was to violent for PG13. i get it. but there are some shots from the first act where its just bad directing. i can not accept this . this is a hollywood movie. its not a 5,000 dollar indie movie from russia. i payed money.

it was also very bad durring the games IMO

the only time i didnt have a problem was when they killed a lot kids. i understand why they didnt show it.

I'd actually read the book before passing judgement. Sometimes you end up being right, sometimes not. For example, I've never been into Zombie stuff. So I figured The Walking Dead wouldn't be for me. I finally watched some of the series with a friend and now I've watched all the episodes and read the first compendium. And then there's Twilight. I thought it sounded stupid, but I've always told myself that I need to actually read something before I can really bash it. So I read the first book...and all it did was allow me to critique it more specifically.

I'm an avid book reader, and I loved THG. I thought the film was a well done and enjoyable movie. I'd say give it a shot. But if it doesn't look like your cup of tea then don't waste your time.

Ive seen pg-13s do worse in terms of violence. The shaky cam even during the the games was frustrating. Its sloppy and impossible to tell whats going on a few times. Its the worst part of the film imo.
If you can show a lil girl stabbed with an arrow. I dont see what all the shakeyness was for.
You can cut from a weapon to close up of face. It seemed to serve more of a style choice then to hide violence.

They knew what they were doing by choosing that extremely cute kid for Rue. You know what I mean.

I knew Lawrence was a star when I saw her superb performance in Winter's Bone. I adore her and am very, very happy with her success.

I knew she was a great actress when I saw Winter's Bone. And I knew she would be a star when I watched X-Men: First Class.
