The Hype Encyclopedia - Part 1

User Titles- Appears beneath Poster's Name. There are certain standard titles based on amount of posts User makes, but can be changed after making certain number of posts.
Banned User- User Title (see User Titles) given too banned hypesters. Many hypesters have started putting variations of the title as their title, by mking puns or using diacritics. This is necessary because the word "banned" is censored in user titles. However, on New Years day, 2013, Poster Shemtov discovered a method to put in "banned" without it being censored. This method has been used by least one other poster.

The Batboards - Arguably the craziest group of fans you will not only see on a forum, but also the internet. The Batboards is the name given to the infamous Batman forums. The Batboard didn't really come to life until TDK came out...that's when all the crazies came out of the woodworks.it quickly gained a reputation here on hype...

It all started when Ledger died...with mebers on that boards claiming depression, missing works, can't stop crying yadda yadda yadda....you should ask Matt about this. I'm sure he remembers.

Then it's all downhill from there.

First there were the Oscar nominations thread. Bear in mind the movie hadn't even came out at that point. When the movie came out, that's when all hell broke loose. That's when we get such gems such as: 'this is the Woodstock of our generation!', 'TDK helped the presidential election! ', No more Joker on future Batmovies 'couse no one can top Ledger!'

The Batboards also gave birth to new style of posting. For example you'd say something simple such as: i dont like the movie!'the ..ehmm 'posters'that dwells in that section would then write a VERY lengthy essay on how you opinion is actually wrong.

After that, they 'insisted' that no discussion about CB movies without mentioning Nolan, Bale or TDK...or that every CB/reular movies shall be compared to TDK from now on..

Sub entries for The Batboards featured such gems as....

Nolanite - A Die Hard fan of Christopher Nolan, in which some of their devotion to Christopher Nolan has become so great that they're ready to declare him god. After the release of TDK, these people declared that Nolan can do no wrong.

BrianTheMute - After the release of TDKR there was a poster named BrianTheMute who in his only 2 posts were these. He tried to goad people into donating money by making up a story of losing his mother to cancer and saying he used the remaining of his money to see The Dark Knight Rises in IMAX. Morg caught on to his spamming quickly and banned.

The Dark Knight had a role in Obama 2008 victory/is the woodstock of this generation - A hype member named UltimateJustin created a thread called "What role did TDK play in Obama's election". In this thread, he claimed that not only the The Dark Knight influenced his opinion on who to vote for in the 2008, but influneced America's. Then he claimed that TDK is Woodstock of our generation. He was proceded to be both laughed at and facepalmed.

Ben - The base of the joke is that this person kept referring to Bane as "ben". After that "r u from south america or something" and "ben" would sporadically be used when talking about TDKR as a way to poke fun at that brilliant post. It started when Numb1Batfan posted this gem:

lol do you guys really think bens going to have a south american accent in a reelistic bat man movie?

ben: hello im ben.

bat man: ??? r u from south america or something?

Morg vs Calvin and Twilight - This was at a time where there weren't many mods and Community got away with a lot of stuff as posting traffic was flooded there. Morg was made a mod and upset the posters who were the "runners" of the section by punishing them for things like flaming and trolling. This came to a head when he probated Darthphere (I think)

What followed was akin to the small town torches and pitchforks scene that Dew and C. Lee tried to stem. The pinnacle of this anti-Morg protest was a long winded official letter about Morg's injustices and the demand that he step down, it came from Twilight who was seen as a nice poster, this shocked quite a few until it later came out the Calvin wrote it. In the end either Mirko or Excelsior shut the thread down and basically let it be known that they ran the site and wouldn't be dictated to.

Hollygate - Holly was one of the most infamous posters of the so-called "Wild west" era, I think she holds the record for being banned the most times and back then you didn't stay banned so all her bannings took time and she still outdid the ones these days who get banned trying to return 10 times in one day. Her original name here was Toven.

Anyway she had mellowed quite a bit under name, lets say 256, and then former mod Dangermouse infracted her and the response he showed us from her was littered with abuse and she was banned. However she contacted me and Dew and swore she sent no such PM and was adamant that he couldn't produce it, when asked DM said he'd deleted it and Holly remained banned, it garnered a lot of drama between everyone as a classic he said/she said.

Robocock - There was a poster named Noir who apparently was a 16 year old homosexual kid. He and the poster RobocopCPU13 became friends and in PM's he told Noir that he'd thought of experimenting. What followed was the PM equivalent of sexting only it got way out of hand and Noir became disturbed when Robocop started sending him cellphone pics of his erect knob after being asked not to by Noir.

The "case" was one of Hunter Rider's first as admin and he regretfully typed the words "You'll have to prove it" to Noir, thinking Noir was making it up as Robocop was quite well liked and a trouble free poster...He wasn't lying.

Slacker Mike - Elijya was a moderator who posted a serious topic about how he wanted to open a comic book store financially backed by his father. Elijya wanted to run this business with his roommate Mike but for reasons unsaid, Elijya's father wouldn't invest if Mike was included. The thread was created because Elijya wanted some serious input on this and in typical SHH fashion (well SHH fashion at the time), it quickly deteriorated from there and several posters ragged on Elijya and coined the phrase "Slacker Mike" creating a story that Mike was an unscrupulous fellow with little ambition.

The thread was quickly deleted. Other posts/threads were created patronizing "Slacker Mike" and during a Survivor hosted by former poster Tukiluka, he made a challenge, where I believe you had to make some sort of limerick/haiku/song parody about "Slacker Mike". This event was either the last straw or second to last straw for Tukiluka, who was later banned, which led to the formation of....

Lesoftparade (LSP) was a messageboard where a lot of formerly banned and current SHH posters posted created by former SHH posters Tukiluka and Childlike Wild. There was some contentious feelings by formerly banned posters and I don't necessarily remember the specific incidents which brought everything to a head. I think it was some of the posters posting here and creating a stir, also, on LSP, they tended to be less then favorable about SHH and especially the moderators.

The incident that led to the banning of the site was when Malice wife lost her baby and someone at LSP posted a jar with a dead fetus in it and manniped "Malice jr" on it, much to the amusement of a certain element there. That led to "sanctions" where the mention of LSP was considered a bannable offense. They even censored the words LSP which created trouble because it was around the time of Transformers and you couldn't say the word "ALLSPARK".

In the end, time passed and the sanctions were removed and LSP was closed by the creators. A new site was created by Daisy and Ben called DKB.

King Madness - poster and Reganite known for his overzealous campaign for Bridget Regan to be cast as Wonder Woman. Constantly raves about her supposed "critical acclaim" yet does not provide evidence of it when asked for it. Will put down other fan casts he deems inferior to Ms. Regan.

Nosebleed (not to be confused with Knowsbleed) - A banned poster who was actually known for being a levelheaded and stellar poster. It started when a poster named Jplaya created a thread about Michael Vick's illegal dog fighting escapades and thoroughly condoned it. Various Community posters chimed in with their opinions about how Michael Vick was in the wrong but Jplaya vehemently defended Michael Vick's actions with a blind and stupid rage that caught the attention of nosebleed who was at the time, significantly inebriated. A slew of back and forth between the two individuals ensued with Jplaya spouting ignorance and nosebleed telling Jplaya that he really needed more time to marinate in his mother's vagina for a few more years before being given permission to be born.

Jplaya relentless continued with the stupidity so nosebleed took extreme measures to get the thread closed by posting various distasteful pictures such as pictures with a variety of finger gestures and telling Jplaya that he had a snack for him and then promptly posted a picture of a bowl of penises. Flagging himself in hopes that a mod would close the thread, nosebleed's attempts went ignored until he finally posted a couple of pictures of nude women in not so graceful poses.

That was the straw that broke the idiot's back and the thread was closed... and nosebleed was perma-banned for posting porn. Needless to say, everyone was shocked.

A thread was immediately created as a sort of "petition" to try and get nosebleed's ban lifted but it was futile as everyone knew that posting porn was a one way ticket to never return again land.

Ultra Lantern/Duke (or Dultra Lantuke) - In 2011, the Hype had two newbies named Ultra Lantern and Duke. Both came to hype at the same time and had the same posting style. Due to this, many posters joked that both were one poster (even though the mods revealed that they have different IP address revealing that they weren't), in which at one point SuperFerret came up with the name "Dultra Lantuke". However, both Ultra Lantern and Duke were offended by the jokes, and constantly PM'd people, much to other posters' annoyances, in which they felt that Ultra Lantern and Duke overreacted. Which led to this outburst by Duke against Parker Wayne. After that, Duke calmed down and finally stopped letting it get to him while Ultra Lantern ended up in the valley of poster who disappeared.

The Michael B Jordan Controversey: In May 2013, A rumor started around the internet stating the Michael B Jordan, an African American actor was the favorite to play The Human Torch, a character that had been for all Marvel iterations had been a caucasian character in the Fantastic Four Reboot. This sparked a controversy and a huge argument in the Human Torch thread on if characters that had previously been Caucasian should have their race changed.

The argument had been exacerbated by a Cracked article called "The 5 Most Insulting Defenses of Nerd Racism" writting in support of Jordan that specifically called out user pr0xyt0xin, which sparked even more argument to the point at which the word Racist was temporarily banned from the thread and from parts of the hype. The issue is currently ongoing as no one has officially been cast in the Fantastic Four reboot.

If you can provide background on both that would be nice.
Cowl gate was that magical period after Nolan's Catwoman was revealed and people were convinced that it wasn't the final costume and that their would be another one for later in the film. When the "goggle ears" were revealed many still held on to the hope that her cowl would appear. Some posters claimed Nolan had broken his rule of realism by not using a cowl (and using stiletto heels and domino mask) and claimed the film was going to be ruined...

The Trunks Debate was the chaos of the Superman boards where people debated over if they should include Superman's famous trunks for the MOS suit. The debate gave way to the over-use of the word "deconstructionist". Eventually, the debate went into an infinite loop even after the suit was officially revealed. Culminating in the closing of the Superman Costume thread for a period of time.

The Batboards entry needs a sub entry for the term Nolanite, GhostRider87 also thought he looked like Leonardo DiCaprio and had long arguments with people who said he didn't.

Hollygate was a fairly huge scandal, then there was the demodding of Daisy, the revolt by Twilight and Calvin over Morg, the Dew vs Paladin incident, Eliyah and his room-mate Mike, and the horrendous Robocock situation.

Also the mini Lesoftparade war.

Nivek - A long time member on this site until he was banned for having more than 50 accounts to his name. All with but one purpose. To back him up in any given arguments so that it'll seems that alot of people agreeing with him.

Can you expand on these? All of this was before my time I believe.

Wasn't Daisy demodded because she allegedly let someone else user her account on the hype?

How about Teh Growl/Bat Voice and Teh Puzzly which relates to "Teh Puffy"? And how about one for the "Is Patty Mayonaise a Lesbian?" Thread?

Also no Dreadstar entry is complete without the word "dicking" in it. ;)

Can someone who was here during the Wild West era make an entry on that era?

Added!

I m slightly confused by wht you men by "experimenting".

He means teh sex.

He means teh sex.
I know, but I thught "experimenting" in a sexual context implied person of sexuality playing around with another.
Didn't know it could mean "do it for the first time"

Yiddish for Jew.
I feel tht if let anti-Semites appropriate it, they've won.
I thought gentiles is the term for any non-Jew?
Could someone put an entry in for the Avengers boards, the Ultimate Spider-Man disaster and the whole Marvel TV News issue? I really would, and if needs be, I will try. The problem is, I do not have enough knowledge on any to do them justice.

Btw the Nivek thing is wrong.

Was it? heard it from a couple of mods.I actually liked the guy and asked where he was, that's what they told me

Also the Jal cybersex thing...it was with Holy Goodhead and some other guy, so maybe put this on either entry.

From what i remember, Jal was talking to a poster from Hype on MSN of who he THOUGHT was Holly at the time. The conversation turned raunchy with a bit of S&M thrown in...

That person who was impersonating Holly, told the REAL Holly about the whole thing.Holly then told everyone about it on-i think the Skype thread? not content on humiliating JAL through the thread,Holly then PM-ed the whole convo to a lot of people. It almost destroyed Jal hehe

I don't remember who the person JAL was talking to, the one who pretended to be Holly. All i remember that he was a kid, everyone thought he was gay because of the whole thing, and he's had an unhealthy obsession with Jal at the time....oh and he's got Spider as part of his SN...

Eliyah and his room-mate Mike

Eliyah was a moderator and posted a serious topic about how he wanted to open a comic book store financially backed by his father.

Eliyah wanted to run this business with his roommate Mike but for reasons unsaid, Eliyah's father wouldn't invest if Mike was included.

The thread was created because Eliyah wanted some serious input on this and in typical SHH fashion (well SHH fashion at the time), it quickly deteriorated from there and several posters ragged on Eliyah and coined the phrase "Slacker Mike" creating a story that Mike was an unscrupulous fellow with little ambition.

His name was Tangled Web and he looked like a child like Russell Wilson.

I suddenly remember Nivek now.

Hollygate was a fairly huge scandal

Holly Goodhead/Toven was a controversial poster on SHH.

She was infracted/banned several times but always seemed to come back. (SHH was a lot more lenient back then. Bans were overturned)

But the point is Holly had a history. Fast forward to an argument between him and then moderator Danger Mouse where, Danger Mouse alleged that Holly made some disparaging private message comments about I believe DM's daughter.

Holly denied it and Danger Mouse didn't have any physical proof as he "allegedly" deleted the messages so there was really no evidence AND it was essentially Holly's word against a moderators.

Because of Holly's history, and despite lack of evidence, admins sided with DM and Holly was banned.

I thought it was but I saw it off Hunter's post. :o
