The Hype Encyclopedia - Part 1

Who wants to write the chapter on The Howard Stark Scandal/Big Green's Rebirth of the Celebrities Tournaments/The Great Purge of 2013?

Those things shouldn't be remembered.

Hence, why I don't remember them...

Where are the feats of Lord's great thread necromancies? :(

Sonofkryptonite- A user who joined some time in the late summer of 2009. Despite his Superman related name, Sonofkryptonite's hype activity was almost entirely limited to discussing his great anticipation for the 2009 film Avatar. After "Avatar Day" and the first trailers for the film were released, Sonofkryptonite spent his days proclaiming that Avatar would indeed be most successful film of the year, even when others were hesitant that it would even be somewhat profitable. Sonofkryptonite's enthusiasm grew throughout the fall. Nearly every one of his posts was devoted to predicting that not only would Avatar be hugely successful but indeed be the first film to out-gross James Cameron's own Titanic. Unfortunately, Sonofkryptonite's undying optimism over Avatar began spilling out into other threads. He began posting in threads devoted to films completely unrelated to Avatar about his unlikely predictions, seemingly trolling and derailing discussions throughout the misc. films threads. Ultimately, Sonofkryptonite was banned before Avatar was even released, not because of his enthusiasm but because of his unruly posting habits. Ultimately though, Sonofkryptonite was vindicated when Avatar went on to gross over 2 Billion dollars to become the most financially successful film of all time as well as being nominated for Best Picture and winning several other awards, because that's the kind of world we live in.

Good lord, some of you have waaaaaay too much time on your hands. Hahaha

Why not write it yourself?

This is one of the reasons I stopped making entries.

SonofKryptonite was one of the weirdest people I have ever encountered on these forums and the fact that he was actually right about Avatar continues to be ridiculous. I decided he deserved to be included.

That wasn't specifically directed at you. :oldrazz:

 He will be missed. lol

Rest in Peace, to the legendary (and infamously extinct) JustABill vs. Cory Deathmatch thread.

To provide context, the hype encyclopedia describes the thread as such:

"A now infamous deathmatch thread that got so bad it was shutdown early and deleted from the Hype. JustABill came into this Deathmatch expecting an easy win until Cory called upon the Batboards (and The Tusi) to even the Deathmatch. Things got heated between Bill and the Batboards, as Bill felt that, being a community mainstay, angry at the Batboards for influencing a comminity forum event. Eventually relations between the Tusians and Cory also soured in the same thread. The mods came in, and things got worse as accusations of cheating for both sides erupted. It was then discovered that after Cory sent a PM for Matt asking to vote for him, Matt got most of the mods to vote against Bill and for Cory, which pissed Bill off even more. After more mudslinging and many insults, the thread ended in a 56-56 tie and the thread was deleted. This lead to the Wildcard between Bill, Cory, Darthphere, Leo, Superferret, and Poopdeckpenispa which ended up being a disappointment numbers wise. This event also lead to more Batboards posters posting in the other parts of the Hype after the release of The Dark Knight Rises."

Y'all remember that time dcnightwingsomething made a thread devoted to calling people with high post counts losers? Good times. Gooooood times.

The JustABill vs. Cory Deathmatch thread was truly a landmark in Hype history.

It was hilarious. As I recall, it could essentially be summed up as...

Bat-boards: "We vote for Cory."
Bill: "You guys are evening it up! HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO MEEEEEEE?!"
Cory: "Heh. And I don't even like the Bat-boards."
Bat-boards: "**** YOU CORY!!!!!!"

Pretty accurate. It got even crazier when a mod conspiracy was revealed, too.

No entry on the TB? Biggest and I believe longest running thread in Hype history.

Reading the JAB vs Cory thread is just reinforcing what I say about the batboards.

Hey, no one came out of that thing looking good. :o

DS vs. DS needs an (unbiased!! :argh:) entry.

Yeah, that's fair. Problem is, I don't think anyone other than you or Sov can write a coherent entry since you two are arguably the only one that knows the history.

Reading the JAB vs Cory thread is just reinforcing what I say about the batboards.

It was one of the greatest days of the Hype. A bunch of elements came together for one huge clusterf**k of anger, yelling, near-bannings and so much more.

It's sad the thread doesn't exist anymore.

I didn't witness this epic thread (wish I had), but reading this makes JustABill sound like JustASoreLoser. Waaah waaah you called up your friends on the bat-board and beat me in an internet death-match even though I should be like totally way more popular than you and have way more votes, according to me. :o JustABill got spanked by someone he underestimated and couldn't deal with the delicious, humiliating defeat. :word:

It wasn't the Batboards that pissed him off (though it didn't help). It was the mods all colluding against him that did (I think it was Aziz that actually PM'd me that part).

And JustABill and Matt weren't the best of friends beforehand...
