IMO, early-days BND was NOT good. Jackpot has to be one of the single worst ideas for a character ever. And that twist about her not being MJ (who didn't see that coming?) was not clever, just convoluted. I never warmed to Menace either (And the Lilly Hollister revelation did nothing to change that either.)

Yeah, they should have got him right after JRJR left. While Deodato isn't a terrible artist, sometimes his work is kind of stilted. Garney was great though, wish he stayed on longer.
