Daredevil The Inevitable Costume Thread

Then Spider-man must be a ****ing gimp for wearing that monstrosity of a fetish suit, huh?.. :whatever: It's a superhero suit, and superheroes wear ridiculously looking outfits.

It may be true that this is the only version of the suit we've had in live-action adaptation (not counting the one from Trial of the Incredible Hulk) so we can't really compare it to anything, but it's not as bad as people make it out to be.

I do wish to see a different, more functional suit and a different design (for the mask as well), and I am almost certain the one they'll use in the show will be MUCH better than the Affleck one, but still - the suit was the last problem I had with the Daredevil movie.

When did Spider Man start wearing leather?

MSJ is cool guy. He posted here some during Ghost Rider's production and ended up inviting Flamehead and maybe a couple others to the premier.

I think the Director's Cut has a little mini doc with Tom "Satan" Rothman STILL claiming the theatrical cut is better and how he stands by the decision to chop all that stuff out. :down

I've only watched the Director's Cut and I thought it was awful so I can't imagine how bad the theatrical version was.

And that's nice of MSJ. Too bad his movies still stink

That's cool I guess, but I thought the Director's Cut was a pretty good approximation of the dark feel of the comic. THe original plays as a love/revenge story, while the DC plays more like a Robin Hood with fisticuffs type of story.

I also think the leather costume wasn't terrible, I do understand the need for a more flexible material, to allow for fighting and acrobatics. But, for it's time, the leather was representative of the comic costume, while still having texture and looking functional.

So here's something I've been curious about. This photo was taken at Stan Lee's Comikaze, and it's of a prop display case. You'll notice that everything (except Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet) are Marvel movie related. All the way at the right is a Daredevil cowl, and it's definitely NOT the version found in the 2003 film.

Could this be our first look at the cowl?

It might be a prototype of the 2003 cowl. I think the early versions of the cowl looked sort of similar to that.

Yep, that's a prototype of the 2003 cowl. It looks better than the actual movie version tho. Wouldn't mind it being used for the series.

Here is the image:

You can read more about it here: http://www.sculptclub.com/2013/08/meet-the-man-behind-your-favorite-film-superheroes-and-villains/

EDIT: Or not. Just noticed that there's no groove on the side of the temple of the cowl in Pat Loika's picture. Though, the ears are similar.

EDIT 2: Found a closer photo of the helmet displayed at Comikaze. You can clearly see that it's a prototype helmet.

Take this one with a grain of salt folks, but there are reports that when the Netflix Daredevil series debuts, Matt Murdock will be evolving his superhero look past the plain black Daredevil: Born Again guise we've seen previously. Chris Dilliard of ComicsUI is reporting via an un-named source a second costume for Charlie Cox as the horned hero being used during filming.

"The scene in question starts with the Kingpin ordering his goons to shoot Daredevil, and at the last minute Daredevil grabs a pipe on the ground and throws it, knocking the gun out of his hand," ComicsUI's source says, describing the scene he witnessed while on set. "The suit Daredevil was wearing is black with red and looked like a latex scuba suit."

The source also described the suit as having red vertical lines and highlights as well, which leads ComicsUI to make an interesting comics connection, to that of the Secret War's 2004 redesign of Daredevil by Gabrielle Dell'Otto. This is big leap in speculation, but if true could open up some interesting additional ties with the Daredevil series as well as down the road to the eventual Defenders television event series as a possible plotline. Last week EW confirmed that Daredevil would eventually get to his iconic red costume originally designed by Wally Wood, but if this news is accurate we could be in store for several stages of evolution by Matt Murdock on the way to that final design.

I actually wouldn't mind that. It looks kinda cool.

That article says that the black suit is from the Born Again storyline, get your facts right dammit :o

Every story seems to be based on one report with an unidentified source. I'll point out the same thing I pointed out before - how difficult is it to show the source the Secret Wars suit and ask "is this it?"

Reading it over again I do think they're jumping the gun just a bit by saying it'd clearly just be a transitional piece to the final suit. I really don't expect an exact translation of the red outfit despite how people interpreted that quote, so I wouldn't be surprised if the alleged red and black combo is his final outfit.

It certainly isn't the first time the MCU has done modernized Ultimate-style takes on the costumes.

I wonder what material they'll use.

I would be all for the yellow and red outfit before the red one.
