The Amazing Spider-Man The Influence of Ultimate Spider-Man on the Reboot

Gonna go ahead and throw in my two cents before the "OmG UlTimATe SpIdeR-MaN SUXZ!!!!?!?!?!?!?!" idiots show up. I personally really like USM but I don't think they should devote the movie exclusively to USM's story but include pieces. For example alot of Peter's everyday interactions with his friends and other kids at Midtown High should be included. Say what you want bout Bendis but this guy has that kind of **** down.

Also I wouldn't mind seeing the Ultimate origin used for the movie. For those who haven't read it Pete was on a field trip to Ozcorp where he was bitten by a spider treated with an experimental version of the super soldier serum called OZ. This would be an awesome explanation if they decide to include this Spidey movie into the movieverse that the IM and Incredible Hulk movies have established.

I agree to an extent. Ultimate Spidey certainly got some things right and it would be stupid to overlook it completely. They have a fresh start now and so much history to use from all mediums... they should really take the best bits from all - makes sense, huh? I have to say though that a ful origin story to me seems a little bit overkill; a title sequence or a couple of well-placed flashbacks will be ample.

They cant put spidey into that universe because that universe is owned by Marvel and not Sony, its not like if they did put OZ into this movie that all of a sudden it will be referenced in the marvel films.

Looking up USM history.

The first arc featured the Green Goblin
Followed by the revelation that the Kingpin was associated with the guy who killed Uncle Ben. Through the Kingpin, we are introduced to Electro, Shocker, the Enforcers

My thoughts are they will not feature Kingpin but instead, Mr. Big (Mid-level enforcer). We will also not get a goblin int he first movie as they may want to disassociate with the Raimi trilogy path.

IMO. This movie will be

Spider-Man Vs. The Enforcers (and their boss, who will not be Kingpin)

The enforcers might even take the route of the SSM series and have them as different rogues (Shocker, Rhino)

I don't mind the Ultimate verse, but I prefer the classics. I just hope that they don't use too much ideas from the Ultimate verse.

There are few things I hate more than Ultimate Marvel. Stick with the classic (real) edition of Spidey.

I'm a huge 616 fan and haven't really read any of the Ultimate comics so I don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing.

I have a feeling the general audience might be a bit confused if the Ultimate version is a lot different than 616 Spidey. When BB came out, I can't remember how many times I heard a non comic reading person that was part of the GA, saying things like, "I thought that Joker killed Bruce's parents?"

I had that happen several times...probably 5 different occasions I had to explain that this wasn't a prequel to Burton's film, nor is Joker the parents' killer.

Yeah the Goblin is pretty much the sucky part of a Ultimate based movie. Aslong as they're able to distinguish from the cool and sucky aspects (Spectacular Spiderman did that wonderfully) we can have a cool movie.

Electro would be my main choice for a first villain.

part? how about the constant capture/rescues of MJ, the crap that was gwenage:doh: let alone the whole doc ock magneto hybrid

ultimate was a great comic but was is the main point there

The Hollywood arc was the last great arc in USM, IMO. It all went downhill with the Carnage arc.

I don't know why they're choosing USM as an influence, when it's not even been around for a whole decade, and we've got over 40 years of 616 comics to choose from.

i had little hope for ultimate carnage bendis has went on the record a few times saying he has nothing but hatred for the character which is why he killed him off in new avengers

I not a spider-man comic reader was more a X-Men and batman reader so was wondering how is Ultimate Spider-Man different from Raimi's spider-man films. I wonder if now with a revamp they could use Fisk aka The King Pin more like the 90 spider-man cartoon

honestly if the go the first ultimate arc, i would rather norman be the mastermind rather than kingpin. fox still owns the rights to him

Because Peter in ultimate spider man is still in high school and dealing with high school issues while still being spidey, which is the tone/setting they want with the reboot

I'm just thinking since this is being based on USM, it's gonna be a horrible teen angst focused spider-wuss with organic webshooters who gets bitten by a genetically modified spider and fights enemies who look little like their comicbook counterparts.

Did I miss something?... That's what we just had from 2002-07.
Raimi's Spider-Man was WAY more USM than Amazing.

he has web shooters in USM :awesome:

That's one upside I guess.

It's been so long (9 yrs?) I think my brain blocked out the details, couldn't get past issue 15 it sucked so bad.

It actually went down for me with the Wolverine/Spidey swap issue. So terrible. I had a subscription so I remember everything after that was terrible.

LMAO, yep, that's the crap we got with Raimi. :hehe:

Can any fan of the Ultimate version of Spider-Man answer this question for me?

How much different is Peter Parker from 616 to Ultimate? Is his personality pretty much the same?

He's a smartass still. He's characterized pretty well. I have some Ultimate comics, I haven't read them in a while. The ones I have are good. But from the stuff I heard from US I hope they don't use too much. They can still use some elements from it, but not much.
