The ancient persian empire originated out of what is now modern day Iran, as you can see from this map.

The people of Iran are the direct descendants of the ancient persians.

Thats great and all but their still not the same people as the ancient persians.

The film depicts those whom Iranians descend from (ancient persians) as a grotesque and monstrous people.

It is like an Iranian film depicting ancient europeans as grotesque monsters. Yes, modern europeans and ancient europeans are not the same people, but one did descend from the other... so.... yea....

I don't think anyone will find descending from a monstrous race a compliment....

What I find interesting about this?

Is how little America seems to care about unflattering portrayals of itself.

Example

I think I may ask my Iranian friend to go see this with me.

I'm outraged that people are outraged by Iran's outrage by Hollywood war epic.

They have the right to be outraged by anything they deemed to be worthy of outrage as do we all.

OK, then I guess I have to right to be outraged by these people making a big deal out of something that isn't.

As a Greek man, I have to say cry me a river. Our national journalist are *****ing about 300 also, but you know what? Its a comic book adaptation which never claimed to be incredibly accurate to begin with. Now I havent seen 300 yet, but from the previews, it doesnt look like it ever claimed to be accurate. From the trailer alone you can tell it doesnt fit with the actual descriptions of the battle.

So basically.... everyone needs to man the **** up. Its a movie, not a historical document.

i've been pissed at hollywood ever since they made "roots"....trying to make white people look like racist slave drivers!!!

do Iranians not know that the war really happened? and that this is from the point of view of a graphic novel writer? and that american's arn't greek?

They make the Persians out to be horrible people in the comic/film. That is why they are pissed. The comic/film also is very flawed when it comes to being historically accurate.

For one, the film takes place in 380 B.C., it doesn't reflect on present day Persians.
My guess is we'll see another uproar when the Prince of Persia film is released.:whatever:

it's also a comic... it doesn't have to be accurate.. the movie is based on the comic.. not war propiganda.. it's stupid.. and the spartan's were portrayed equally blood thursty... and the persians DID try to conquer.. just like the romans did...

Something tells me that anything that comes out of the USA involving the Persians or Iranians will draw ire from Iran.

People of modern day Iran are not the same Persians that are meant to be in the Movie. The land of Iran went threw many changes over the years which includes the people.

The descendants of the Persians in the movie are small in population in Modern day Iran. The largest ethnic group in Iran today are the Turks, who were not around during Persian empire in the movie.

Someone did a blog to explain this which I found long ago, when I was doing research on my peoples history. Which people should take a look at, if they are interested.

They must have watched the movie in the first place to know it was offensive.

Did they really think that Hollywood USA was going to make a movie portraying them in a positive light?

When that happens, that is when they should know something is up.

Iran must have ****ty history teachers.

Hollywood didn't invent The Battle of Thermoplyae

well you know hollywoods gonna cast a Caucasian actor to play the prince of persia.

I've heard that Dances with Wolves went over really well. So did the Godfather Trilogy.

No one ever claimed this was supposed to be an accurate historical account. I really don't get why people have this expectation of every historical movie that the filmmakers can't or shouldn't take any liberties.

Also, there's no reason for modern day Iranians to be offended by actions that they didn't commit. I don't get all up in arms about every Vietnam movie because the U.S. screwed things up there. I didn't do it, therfore it's not on my shoulders.

Finally, they definitely portrayed the Spartans in a more negative light. Hell, the first scene explains how they literally "threw away" sickly infants. Show me where they said anything like that about the Persians. All I saw in 300 was how they fought. So unless getting your ass kicked is somehow seen as "offensive", I'm not seeing what the argument is.

The Iranian president, is probblay planning to blow up something,
