Iron Man 3 The Iron Man 3 Box Office Prediction Thread - Part 1

As do I.
A lot of us here, self included, are fans of almost all the franchises, but there are definitely cheerleaders for one studio or director or franchise over the others. And those of us who are long-time Iron Man, Avengers, and Marvel Studios fans in this particular forum have been posting here for years. I have yet to see any of these "regulars" post anything negative about IM3, while almost all of the complaints have been from posters with usernames and avatars that clearly reflect a bias towards the Bat-films and the Spidey-films.

All I can do is just wonder: jealous much? /smh

You've been a member of this site long enough,you'll eventually gets to recognize some posters and know what their real intentions are.

These days, i just don't have the energy or willingness to 'discuss'the movie with these people. Which is a shame, since i the reason i joined the Hype in the first place is to discuss these things with like minded fans.

You're happy that a movie based on your fav comic book character is succesfull and next thing you know, some poster with bat avatar and username like DaRkKnIghTJoKeRz start *****ing about 3d advantage,'real fans' dissapointed with the movie anyways,too much jokes in the movie...blablabla

I really personally don't care who the "big Dog" is, as a life long Iron Man fan, I am just thrilled he is among them.
For whatever peoples opinion is of IM3, to me it was a very enjoyable movie and a good end to the trilogy, would be lying if I said a 4th film would not be awesome, but there are other Marvel characters that are on the horizon and just so many slots, to me seeing my childhood comic hero come to life in 3 solo and 1 team blockbuster films and be so accepted worldwide, has been a joy and great to see so many embrace one of the best superheroes in comics, IMO.
I give all sorts of credit to the other franchises, like Spider-man, Bat Man and even Blade, without there success, Iron Man would never come to screen.

Good GRIEF, I said IM's a "big dog" now, I didn't say there was any singular "big dog" there's a big difference.

You misread my post, read it again, my point was not who or whom was the big dog or dogs that I was thrilled Iron Man was part of the conversation, before you accuse people of mis understanding your posts maybe you should do the same.

Iron Man's a big dog not matter how he got there, now get over it.

The status quo has changed radically with the massive success of The Avengers and the Iron Man franchise, but some fans' perceptions haven't caught up. So they resort to trying to justify the notion that the situation really hasn't changed at all. But it has. At the moment Iron Man is on par with Spider-Man and Batman in terms of movie popularity and that's the state of play going forward. Acknowledging that fact does not diminish the other characters in any way.

1.073 billion WW. #9 on the All-Time Worldwide Box Office list.

Came in 2nd for the weekend, as expected, pushing Gatsby back down to third. STID opens with a respectable 84.1 million 4-day, but gains no new ground or audience past the 2009 reboot; falls short of the projected 100 million opener.

No doubt there's a huge rivalry among the fan bases. I sort of get the Batman vs. Iron Man thing, the Marvel vs. DC debate has been going on for decades, sort of like Mac vs. PC. The one I don't get is Spider-man.

When RIM posted on the Spider-man boards that he didn't like TASM, he was tarred and feathered for it. It was really sad to see that kind of hate. Then there were actually Spider-man fans that were trashing Marvel Studios. Seriously WTF?

Anyway, there's no doubt that Iron Man has established himself as an A-list superhero. However he got there it doesn't matter.

BTW, we'll wait for the actuals, but I thought IM3 held up very well, especially with a new movie coming out. I think it should benefit from the 4 day holiday. IM1 made 25 million over Memorial day weekend, and IM3 is running slightly ahead of IM1 at this point, so I think you could see 28-30M over the holiday weekend, or 20-23 Fri-Sun.

I don't wish failure upon Spidey, he's one of my favorites as well. However that didn't stop my criticism of TASM. It has some good elements, and I will admit, I prefer Garfield in the role over Maguire. However the film was made solely to keep the rights to Sony, and the rehasing of an origin story was a waste IMO. Fox has done a fairly good job with X-men (minus Wolverine and X3), but has screwed the other Marvel properties.

Don't care about Spidey as solo movies will stop making big bucks at some point and Disney will get the rights back after the first flop or massively underperforming movie. X-Men in the regular Marvel universe never geled with me. If it stays at Fox, so be it. Fantastic Four, that is a bigger problem.

There is no dyed in the wool tier system for character popularity. Just because character A was popular 20 years ago, and character B wasn't doesn't mean it will always be that way. The Avengers are all A-listers now, particularly Iron Man.

Well you did say you didn't care who the "big dog" is, so I responded to that comment. i never said that was the "point" of your post so I didn't misunderstand anything.

This all I was saying I may have worded my post a little more harsh, but that was because I responded to Cherokeesam's post. People act like ranking Iron Man up there with the A-listers is somehow disrespecting Spidey and Batman.

I am so tired of the "too much humor" complaint. I have no idea why certain people need every cinematic experience to be as up-lifting as going to a funeral.

That's the deal the parties singed, so it's perfectly acceptable for them to keep properties that have made them big money in the past and have the potential to do so in the future. Until they stop being profitable, why shouldn't they keep them? They don't owe Marvel anything.

They don't owe them anything? It's their characters. They owe them everything.

I'm not saying that Marvel gets them back without due compensation, or a breach of contract. But I do want all of Marvel's properties under one roof.

As long as Fox and Sony can bring out good movies I'm fairly fine with them having their rights. The reason for that is that there's only so many movies Marvel Studios can do and this set up means that we'll get more superheroes that wouldn't have made it otherwise. That's the reason that we have these successful Avengers movie franchises right now after all.

Then you clearly haven't been paying close attention. And even though I have come around on this movie for the most part, I'll still slam it all day long for mishandling the villain.

My guess would be that some dumb fans just wants validation for their comic hobbies from the outsiders/general audience, therefore they need the comic book movies to be ultra serious/realistic/depressing/whatever...so that they can then say; 'see, comics is NOT kids materials!'

I remember during the Dark Knight crazyness, there was one poster with asig that says: 'when people asked me why i read comics, i told them to watch TDK! "

Reading some of the complaints about 'lack of seriousness/too much jokes etc'..

I fully expect the same people to be complaining about lack of realism/too much humor in the upcoming Deadpool movie
