"I'm not kissing you".

The Star Spangled Man sequence is pure class. While I don't love the war montage, you are underrating the last act terribly. The "You want to live" and "dignity of choice" scenes are wonderfully acted, and Cap doing his Indiana Jones impression in the finale is great. The bomb sequence has some great stunts and sound engineering. A lot of great sci-fi and adventure in the final act, and that last scene is heartbreaking.

Sorry I just didn't feel any of it, I mean i didn't outwardly hate it, i just thought they really held back in that second half with the action. (probably lack of budget) The first half was REAL good...I mean IM1 level good, and it just went all montage-y. When i think of WW2 captain america movie...I would be expecting some Raiders of the Lost ark type action, it really did feel they rushed through all of that stuff...especially considering Cap should have the best action sequences in the MCU because it's not some explosions/cgi fest like Iron Man or the Hulk would be.

Hugo did kinda of phone it in, but he is still good and everyone else killed it. Film could of a used at least one more scene after the montage to flesh out Cap's time in the war and before we lost Bucky, but it still works very well.

Hugo weaving is one of my favourite actors of all time, the guy stole every scene he was in behind a freaking mask in V for vendetta, so playing someone as visually exciting as Red Skull should have felt way less phoned in.

Why do we have to make this Marvel vs. DC?

I don't know...lack of good healthy argumentative points?

You wouldn't classify the Avengers as great? I'm not saying you're wrong or anything haha, I'm just wondering what's holding you back from calling it great cause I looooved the Avengers :woot:

It's all good. Yeah I personally think the Avengers is as close to perfect as a movie could get, and I was perfectly fine with the portrayal of Cap, but I felt he possibly could have been used a little bit more. I think me saying that stems from the fact that they cut a good deal of his scenes in the modern day, but even that is a tiny minuscule gripe that doesn't overall effect my enjoyment of the movie one bit.

My least favorite thing about that movie, honestly, was Edward Norton's boring portrayal of Bruce Banner (that and some weak CG in places, but I digress). His portrayal was just completely flat and unimaginative, in my opinion. Granted a lot of that stems from the fact that he wasn't given much to work with in the screenplay, but whatever. Just sort of a 'meh' effort all around, although it still ended up an enjoyable enough movie. I'd probably give it a 6.5.
TA is a ton of fun, but I'd take IM, TFA and probably Thor ahead of it. That they cut out Cap's intro scene has always been telling to me. It plays out more like a a collection of "best of" fan moments then a cohesive film. It is weak in terms of narrative, but I still love it.

Because Green Lantern was DC's Summer 2011 answer to Marvel's comic book heroes. It's not a random mention on my part. 2012 was The Avengers vs TDKR. 2013 is IM3 vs Man of Steel. Your avatar has Man of Steel on it so I'm guessing you're a DC advocate, if not then my apologies.

Marvel vs DC doesn't exist outside of comic books preference.

Look at my top 10 superhero movies...does it look like I'm advocating anything other than my favourite films? I thought people were over this?

If Weaving was phoning it in as RS in CATFA, I sure couldn't tell. He was spot on and quite menacing from what I could see and I loved his end fight with Cap(zero gravity awesomness) as well as his defeat.

Let's all agree to steer this back to the topic...

So how has the opening changed your view on how IM3 will do? What was your prediction before, and what is it now?

Well YMMV as with all things art. To me 1/2 of the phase 1 movies were great(IM1-9.5/10, TA - 9.25/10, CATFA - 9/10) and the other half varied from good(TIH - 7.5/10, Thor - 8/10) to very good(IM2 - 8.5/10).

Today is the day I found out what YMMV means. :woot:

We all have our opinions, and I know many who think MCU has produced at least 2 of the best movies around. I am hopeful I am going to find that with Phase II and I am very excited for the first 3 offerings (less then a week and I get to see IM3 :D). Phase I already gave me a few of my own personal favorites.

I honestly can't tell, because I think the second and third week domestic numbers are going to be the most telling. People are going to rush out to see this, but will they come back a few more times like The Avengers? I am not sure.

I don't think there has been a great MCU film yet, but they have all been quite good, outside of IM2 and TIH, which I see as closer to mediocre then good. Lot of wasted potential on screen in those movies, but also more then a few bright spots and performances.

I felt the exact same way, most of them good, none of them great.

Then I saw IM3. :wow:

I stuck to what I thought were conservative estimates beforehand, saying around 700-800 million. Now I'm feelin confident in the fact that this is going to rake in a billion easy.
Honestly I've been thinking the past couple weeks about how long Marvel can realistically keep cranking out the MCU films, but with this making as much money as it has been and people liking it as much as they do, I think this is proof positive that the MCU is here to stay for a good long while.

Like I said, $1,250,710,852 WW is my prediction and I'm sticking to it.

If Weaving was phoning it in as RS in CATFA, I sure couldn't tell. He was spot on and quite menacing from what I could see and I loved his end fight with Cap(zero gravity awesomness) as well as his defeat.

But could you say his performance was on the level of someone like Tom hiddleston or jeff bridges? I mean he was freaking Red Skull, I'd have expected him to return but he doesn't seem to want to...it never felt to me he even cared much for the role.

I don't think the Hobbit will come that close. The first one was only a little over a billion -- if these numbers hold up IM3 should be taking in at least $850mm internationally alone. Unless the international take is heavily front loaded (and I believe there are several huge markets where it hasn't even opened yet) I don't see how Hobbit can compare.

I also see a falloff domestically from Hunger Games to Catching Fire. I think IM3 is the only movie to hit $400mm domestic this year, with CF ending up around 300-350 and a few others (Man of Steel, Despicable Me 2, Monsters University, Star Trek, Hobbit) hovering around high 200s to low 300s.

I agree with you for the most part but I don't think Hunger Games drops that much and IM3 for 850 m OS would be insane.

That's Avengers territory. I'm not sure IM3 can match the Avengers legs overseas or even domestically.

What would you rank IM3 as from one to ten? How does it, in your opinion, compare to the films you have listed in your signature? Where would it rank?
Hahah sorry for grilling you with questions I'm just sooo excited to see it... I'm avoiding spoilers like it's my job but I want to know just exactly what I'm in for.

That is the big question mark at this point.

I thought it was better than Hiddleston's in Thor. Maybe not his performance in Avengers but close. And I'd say Bridges is still my favorite comic book villain in any movie to date.

Also, I never, ever pa attention to what any actor says or does outside of what they do in the actual movie. I never watch interviews or any of that stuff. I only want to see them in the roles they play. I leave the interview stuff to the behind the scenes guys like the director/writers/producers/etc. They aren't the face of the film I'm seeing so it doesn't break the illusion for me to hear them talk about what they are working on. But I steer clear of actors completely.

Take a closer look at my signature :yay:

This is why I want this film to make as much money as possible, I want Shane Black to work more and more.

Ah I see :woot: I thought that just said just said 'Iron Man' haha, that's what I get for not paying close enough attention.
But good to know! I'm pumped. I know I'm going to love it.

If IM3 makes that then the 3 Iron Man films will be exactly $1.00 ahead in WW gross than Nolan's Batman trilogy.:woot:

Oh god, i forgot that travesty of a 2nd film actually made 600 plus WW. That RDJ is box office gold...didn't the first Sherlock holmes film get 500m WW?

Yes, SH made $524,028,679 and SH2 made $545,448,418.

This explains your pettiness quite well actually.

Sherlock films both did over 500m WW, and I like them both quite a lot. The first being the better of the two.
