So the extended scenes (one of which only made a few seconds worth of a difference ) appear to be , as some guessed, even worse than what we got. Unbearably annoying, and they STILL puss out on him slapping Harley, which is ridiculous. What a waste....

Most of the extra material does improve the movie, but it's not nearly enough.

I agree. It's obvious now why WB decided to cut pretty much all his scenes.

Just my opinion but "time is a flat circle" so give it to Jake Gyllenhaal. I definitely want to see The Joker in DCCU but this version was awful and his relationship with Harley is just something for wannabe edgy 1D / Bieber 17 years old fangirls.

I say Martin Wallström. He's like this mixture of Leto and Mads Mikkelsen and he plays a great psychopath on Mr.Robot.

If not him, then definitely get Michael Pitt like I've been saying for years.

Spoilers for those not caught up on Hannibal :

We're not gonna stop begging them to.

And even so, it's fun to discuss what could've been...

I didn't have an issue with his portrayal of the character; it think it was the use of him and how they wrote the Joker that was the issue. I've never been a fan of the flashy, gangster version of the Joker. I think given a better script by writers that have a stronger grasp on the character, he could do a much better job.

I guess I don't share that narrative. Just not a fan of discussing "what ifs" when I already know what is.

Fair enough, but I just don't see a recast happening unless Leto drops out, which he won't. I don't think Leto's the problem. Ayer saw an opportunity to use the Joker and did so in an amateur-ish manner that results in a performance that won't ever feel fully realized because he's not at the core of the film.

Give Leto something more substantial to work with and he'll be able to please more of the hardcore fan base.

Post extended cut, I still think Leto did a good job. Is his portrayal perfect? No, but few are anyway. And imo, I see a lot of potential going forward for what can be done with this interpretation.

I WILL say his Joker makes me laugh more than any other version yet.

I'm pretty sure it's in the bad way, though...

I think it would be a waste if they recast but at the same time if it was Gyllenhaal let's say...i'd be like good riddance Leto.

Honestly I just don't understand why Leto was trying so hard in every freaking scene. It's so over-the-top, he's like some annoying caricature. Did they really think "omg this will be amazing". I think in TC he had just 8-min screen-time but imagine if audience had to go through 20-25 mins of that.

Again, while I don't think he's as over-the-top as most do, I think it's because Ayer wasn't a powerful enough director to reign him in. Although I like what Leto did, I see why others didn't & I think it's more on his direction than his choices.

Put Leto in Ledger's place with an amazing director like Nolan and it would've been far more amazing.

But, unfortunately, when the director is lacking, that can sometimes extend to the cast.

Period? I do think he's a bit overrated but he's had some good performances.

I didn't enjoy his version of the Joker, but I wouldn't go as far as to call him a bad actor by any means. He wasn't the right pick, but then again neither was the direction they took with the character. That's just in my opinion though.

I think Leto is a good actor but maybe he wasn't the right fit after all. I mean we're talking about a 45 years old guy who's making music for teen girls and who's wearing leggings and basically WB gave him free hands cause they wanted a big name for Mr.J and Gosling turned them down so when I'm thinking abojt this version right now it kind of makes sense. You had Ayer who lacked vision and Leto who was desperate to create something remarkable but their ideas were just wrong.

Honestly I'm curious if WB became scared of that Joker / Harley relationship and decided to change it or they didn't like Leto's performance and decided to cut most of his scenes and then obviously that possible controversy just wasn't worth it.

He's terribly affected and "actory" in all his roles. His best performance is still My So Called Life.

Honestly, I could do without seeing the Joker again. I know I'm probably alone in that, but there it is. I'm just so turned off by damn near everything about this take.

Its the former. They still have cold feet about the abusive aspect of the relationship, hence none of those scenes being edited back into the EC. I think it was much more of that than them being worried about the quality of the overall performance.

And I agree with those saying Leto is by no means a terrible actor. Is he the best of all time? Of course not, that's Boris Karloff. :cwink:

But anyway, he has given some great performances and has the capacity to be great here if given better and more material to work with. This would've happened no matter who was cast. Any performance can be hurt by an overabundance of editing that almost completely changes the narrative of your character's relevance to the film.
