The Jared Leto is The Joker(?) Thread

I actually don't mind this.

As interesting as design itself is, I'd argue it befits the Joker even less than those designer blazers. There's too much of an Mexican gunslinger vibe to it.

Not to mention the idiotic "haha" all over it.

I will never understand these idiot costume designers who said that the purple suit was "too much". And Dear God those unused designs....

HOW HARD WAS THIS?!

Eh, even though I like the design presented, they can still get him back all permawhite any number of ways so this look can still be attained.

Or just show him in the past before the tattoos and grillz, detailing his prior encounters with Batman. Maybe even show how he killed Robin, perhaps?

Yeah but they had to do something different! If only they went through with the Dirk Diggler suits we saw earlier, totally Joker!

Right guys!

Frick being different just for the sake of being different.

See, I'm not really on board with this either.

Just give him three-piece suits.

They should replace Leto too. No costume will fix Leto.

Can't help but agree, boose.

Leto is a good actor but it's painfully obvious that his interpretation was pretty doomed from the start with the creative choices they had in mind.

Do you think with a different interpretation Leto could be a good joker?

The idea didn't work, and I believe this role just isn't for him.

If it was taken in an entirely different direction, I'm sure he could do well but the damage has already been done

Honest Trailers described it as James Franco's character in Spring Breakers plus Ace Ventura = Leto's Joker.

I have a hard time seeing Affleck bringing Leto's Joker into this though. Even if he did, I'd expect a lot of changes.

Maybe it was Leto's love letter to Jim Carrey

The Mask
Ace Ventura
The Riddler

All wrapped into one

I disagree wholly. I think Leto's just fine for the role, and in need of both a better script and better direction.

I preferred this:

Not sure what's going on with the eyebrows but you get the point.

When I heard he was cast I figured the best case scenario was we'd get a sort of Bowie esque portrayal or maybe even something closer to the androgynous version Grant Morrison wanted for Serious House on Serious Earth.

Guess I should have considered the worst.

Now I say recast with Walton Goggins and go for the Brian Bolland look since it's close to what Batfleck looks like in the DCEU.

Having seen all of Affleck's films, the Joker presented in Suicide Squad goes against all of his sensibilities as a filmmaker - whether it be from a writing, acting, or visual standpoint. I could not see Leto's Joker existing in a Ben Affleck film.

So yeah. Barring major changes to the character, I'd almost prefer it if they omitted the Joker moving forward instead of sticking Affleck with a characterization that falls well outside of his wheelhouse.
