The Jared Leto is The Joker(?) Thread

A small amount of it isn't. But once you have multiple big gold ropes and watches and bracelets and pinky rings that becomes outlandish and clownish.

But again all this is a matter of opinion

I guess Mr. T is part clown.

You're right they still would of needed to have died. I still think downing jr should of gotten best supporting actor for tropic thunder over ledgers joker in 08 but again all this is subjective

They could've recited TDK's script from God's balcony and still not have gotten the Oscar.

They can love it for all sorts of reasons not relating to looking like a clown.

Then why do ppl love it so much? Again all this is subjective.

I just think it's crazy to you Jim carrey a comedian(pretty much a clown) and to say he's to cartoonish to degrade a man playing a freaking clown. But again subjective

Maybe because they love the tattoos? Or the bling bling jewelry? Nothing to do with clowns.

What?

And we know that for a fact because?!? Oh wait this is all SUBJECTIVE

You are the one who seems to know for a fact that if all the Joker actors had TDK's script they would've all gotten Oscars. You tell me.

What?

Maybe I'm in the wrong forum but I've seen ppl say he's like jim carrey in the mask and say he's cartoonish. And I think that's crazy because he's playin a clown and in a movie with his stupid gf that made her debut in a cartoon.

Only complaint I've seen is "cartoonish lover boy" and "I hate the tattoos" I'll be the first to admit the damaged tattoo is stupid.

But maybe I am crazy for lovin every one screen joker we've gotten. Maybe I'm just to much of a glass half full kind of person

Do you realize how ridiculous your claim is? Heath won because of what he brought to the table. The voice, the mannerisms, the expressions, the delivery. All of those ingredients brought Nolan's excellent script to life. Insert any other actor and the ingredients would have been vastly different.

Exactly. You can have the best script in the world, but it takes the right actor to pull it off.

Jared Leto was abominable in the little we saw of him. I'm guessing thats why they cut so many of his scenes as well.

Not to say he can't make it right if he shows up in another movie, but I would rather they not use or even mention the Joker ever again in this universe if he's going to be the one playing him.

I don't think Ben will want to build off of Ayer's template. Not at all.

Either blow up everything they did to the character and start over or leave it alone and hope people forget.

I would say that is definitely the case.

Being cartoonish doesn't equal to being a clown. Yes he was cartoonish and stupid and goofy. He wasn't very clown-like.

The abominable Letoman

Christopher Nolan is a Genius....
Dialogue isn't his strong suit. Read some of the Joker's dialogue as written, they are rather unremarkable and dry.

Ledger didn't get to work with the snappy one liners Nicholson got. Or the beautifully written monologues that Mark Hamill had to work with.

It's to Ledger's absolute credit that he was able to elevate Nolan's exposition-laden script to aural exuberance.

Nope. WB got cold feet over Joker's abuse to Harley, hence the cuts. And hence why none of it made it into the Extended Cut.

I really wouldn't get my hopes up for Leto's Joker just "disappearing". He simply isn't disliked outside of the online fanboy bubble as far as I can tell. I just hope when he shows up again they give him better lines and actually let him be The Joker and not some guy who has genuine feelings for Harley.

Yup. Heath dying isn't why he was nominated or why he won. If he were alive, he'd STILL have won that Oscar. Only pure ignorance would have anyone believe otherwise.

Right on the nose. And as far as I know, WB is completely fine with Leto and his Joker. He's not going anywhere.

The only place where I see him being liked are in online bubbles. I don't see any strong feelings for him (for or against) in real life.

Outside of hardcore comic book fans the reception to him has been good. There aren't millions of people clamoring for him to be replaced or never seen again.

I remember initial Twitter reactions at the time of SS's release was fairly mixed, though.

Out of all the things I've heard about Leto's Joker, the few positive responses I've heard have come from this place.

Most people either don't care for or straight up didn't like him. The friends I went with to see it didn't like him. The internet response has not been good. Maybe I'm not looking in the right places.

All we can really do is speak for our own personal experiences.

Those I've spoken to didn't care for him.

The boxing shorts and purple croc skin jacket is very clownish to me. The tux look is very clownish imo.

And yes I'd agree my biggest complaint about ledgers was he didn't feel like a clown. I still love every live action joker we've gotten. I wouldn't say any actor has given us a bad joker.
Black tuxes, clowns...ehhhhhh.

I also miss the permanent smile.

Ledger sounded like a clown when he laughed, and in many scenes felt like a psychotic evil clown who didn't take care of his hair or clothes. Leto sounded like an old man laughing. I guess you can imagine an old man clown, and that would naturally be terrifying. But it didn't scare me. Maybe his look ruined it? I'm not sure..

Leto looks and sounds and felt nothing like a clown. I've had people in my life tell me, after watching Suicide Squad, that he felt more like the Riddler than the Joker. Hilarious, since Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor was criticized for the same thing. You would never hear that kind of crap about Jack or Heath. I'm not trying to pick on Jared suddenly, because i always acknowledge his potential, but the guy just doesn't scream CLOWN or JOKER to me. He comes off more like a flamboyant gangster from A Night At The Roxbury sequel. It's like a character Jim Carrey would play if they ever made a sequel. A rival club owner who has a final dance off with Will Ferrell and Chris Kattan.

The ONLY thing that might look clownish is the white/pale skin.

Look at those photos in the last page, of Heath's version. All scream CLOWN, even down to the shoes. Leto is pure gangsta, Sons of Anarchy, Night at the Roxbury, Scarface style. A freak, sure. A clown, not so much.
