"The Joker" in development with Todd Phillips and Martin Scorsese attached?

Scorsese + DiCaprio combo can hype me up a bit, but it's so unlikely that I don't even want to start caring.

It's also probably likely to spawn a new breed of cringey kids who think " JUST WAIT GUISE, YOU KEEP MAKIN FUN OF ME AND IMA BE DA REAL LIFE JOKUR !! ALL IT TAKEZ IZ ONE BAD DAY LOLOLOL " . As if kids like that don't already exist...

They've made $3 billion dollars off four films. They're doing fine, folks.

Landing Leo would definitely makes things interesting but I find it highly unlikely he would take the role. Though, oddly enough, I think if he really transformed himself into the role and it ended up being a good movie/script, I think Hollywood/The Academy would take notice, he really hasn't done anything so drastically transformative as playing the Joker could be, assuming they went alittle deeper into the mind of the character and did it with great execution. Not saying his roles haven't been transformative but if they do this thing right with the right amount of seriousness I think it could show off his range and get noticed. Would be kind of funny if he spent all those years taking Oscar bait roles and ended up getting his 2nd Oscar for playing the Joker, haha.

Again, that said, I don't see any of that happening and I'm still completely on the fence about any type of origin for the Joker and I also think this could be reporters seeing the name "Scorsese" and finding a way to tie Leo into the discussion for clicks because they've worked together alot. Though I also could see WB's trying to get Scorsese involved in an attempt to land Leo.

I do hope the theory that WB's is looking for a top level talent to play Joker, and not a younger actor is true. The character just works better for me in the 35-45 year old range. Hell, even though Leto is 45, he looks a bit youngish in the role (the horrible design choices making him look like Riff Raff didn't help)

This whole thing sounds very hit or miss, and not very concrete that it's going to happen. I'm intrigued by it even though I don't like the sound of some of the rumors about it, or the idea of an origin, especially one that stretches back to childhood.

I think Leo could pull it off. He'd face nerd rage backlash, but then again, so did Ledger.

Something that I was working on with Mr. Nelson for quite a long time, so it's finally here!

WB is desperate.

No. They just don't have a clue what they actually want.

They're the fat guy sat with the huge menu, not the homeless guy outside looking in through the window.

I'd be doing backflips if Leo was cast as The Joker...

...if Leto's version didn't already exist.

Leo would be fantastic, but I thought they were doing a younger Joker....

Ya know, as in someone who's more than just 3 years younger than Leto.

Poor Leto. First they butcher his (awful) performance as The Joker in SS and now this.

Eh. He's going to potentially be part of three or four films as the character (SS, GCS, JVH, SS sequel?). Possibly five if he's in THE BATMAN.

This is likely a slightly younger version of the character they're planning anyway. Not that Leto can't play younger.

I think everyone knew Leo's name was going to up when Scorcese's name came up. Probably a long shot, but indicates what they're aiming for.

Ugh. Why the bullying origin, though? I'd prefer Joker to be a bully himself. I'd rather see a We Need To Talk About Kevin scenario where he's just born a psychopath who does horrible **** for no real reason. That's always how I saw Joker. A natural evil.

Because abuse often breeds abuse and violence, or heightens psychopathic tendencies. It makes perfect sense.

The Joker hasn't, in modern comics, generally been about "natural evil". He sort of "becomes" that kind of force of nature, but behind that is a very sick mind, in most interpretations. Even in the much celebrated THE DARK KNIGHT, it is hinted that he became what he did because awful things happened to him.

I think they just want someone that's NOT Leto at this point.

WB saw the backlash. No Joker performance has ever gotten as much backlash as Leto.

Leo as Joker is so perfect. I hope this happens. That report claimed that Affleck won't be in The Batman. I wonder if they will go after Gosling again? They wanted him for Batman in BvS and Joker in Suicide Squad..It might be easier to secure him if all he has to sign for is a Batman trilogy, unconnected to the greater DCEU.

Leto blew it. It's embarrassing for him that they're bringing Leo in to do something that will no doubt be superior, but I still don't really feel bad for Leto. He just didn't do a good job, and they should probably just let him go entirely.

I am so curious who they're going to get for Reeves' Batman... It could go either way...

If they're going for a prestige actor for that one, I bet they'll give Gyllenhaal and Gosling insane offers. It could be more appealing to them because it would be a standalone trilogy like TDKT.

wb is just making my head hurt all these different contunitys of dc films.

now i welcome leto being dropped.which he should.he was absoletly was worst version of joker ever.if surcide squad 2,joker & harley quinn and gotham city sirens are made leto playing them as joker is major disaster to me.

we will see if leo can be persured to play joker.

I can understand Leto's frustrations, and this Elseworlds label could present a huge problem for WB when it comes to attracting acting talent for their DC properties. Why would an actor sign on to play a character if the studio is just going to turn around and hire another actor to play the same character in another movie? Nevermind the possible confusion you're putting audiences through, but now you're essentially pitting two actors against each other. It's not an attractive prospect.

I think Leo would be an awful Joker! This is my nightmare.
I wanna know why people think he'd be good in this role?

Just f***ing cast Leto as his younger self Joker, he looks twenty anyway.

2 words :

Django Unchained.

You need to have someone who can pull off that combination of " absolutely despicable/disgusting " and " entertaining/hilarious " .

Surely if Leo is cast in a rival Joker project, then Leto will have enough self respect to walk away? It ain't like the guy needs the work.

Because he's one of the best film actors working today? Certainly head and shoulders over Leto. Or maybe you've only seen Titanic? If so, watch him in Shutter Island, Django, Revenant, Wolf Wall Street... the list goes on.

It'd be a dream for me if Leo was cast opposite Affleck in a soft rebooted The Batman. One continuity, and Leto's awful juggalo Joker done away with.

I wouldn't shed any tears if we said bye-bye to Leto and his tattooed, blinged-up Joker.
