PW is talking out of his ass no such mention of a post apocalyptic earth was stated we would know because katara would of told us lol

so where/when does this story take place? (both movie and cartoon)

is it our earth? a post apocalyptic one? a different earth entirely?

The cartoon is it's own earth. Like Lord of the Rings takes place in Middle Earth, Avatar takes place it it's own World. Though it is never given a specific name.

Really? I could've swore that I heard something about it being a post-apocalyptic earth in the movie.

-If the firenation killed all the airbenders in hopes of killing the Avatar at the same time why does Zhao tell Aang that there's no point in him being killed b/c he'll just be reborn? By killing Aang isn't that the end of the avatar cycle?

That was something I thought was really stupid that M. Night added. It didn't seem really thought out. In the show Fire Lord Rozin let Avatar Roku die knowing that the Air Nomads were the next in line for the Avatar to be reincarnated. Killing all airbenders would then stop the process (He hoped). You'd think that the firenation would've just figured that they were successful in killing all airbenders and the Avatar would be reborn to the Water Tribes but I guess I'm putting waaay too much thought into it.

I think that only those privy to the spirit world knew that killing the Avatar when he/she is in the Avatar State would kill the cycle.

Also I didn't get a post-apocalyptic vibe from the movie. Whether it's mentioned or not I can't recall but the tone was pretty much consistent w/ the cartoon. Everyone was happy and in balance in the world. Fire Nation attacked and f'd everything up.

It must've been a mistake on my part.

EDIT: Now I know why I thought that was said in the film. Several news sources before in their synopsis of films wrongly mentioned that it was post-apocalyptic and I thought that mentioned in the film. Its even on some websites about post-apocalyptic films. My mistake

I just found out Dante Basco who voices Zuko in the cartoon is Rufio from Hook! Holy **** haha! Maaan, makes so much sense now.......Looking back on Rufio, if Dante was that age now and they had cast him for the live-action film, he would have been PERFECT.

Wow...You can't get much later than that,..

That press conference didn't exactly make me cringe like I thought it would. Rathbone defending Shyamalan's integrity was as close as it got to being embarrasing. Shyamalan does deserve scrutiny. We didn't need this perpetual film student figuring out how to make a movie while ruining great material such as the Avatar series.

One of my old professors always said Brian De Palma was the world's oldest living film student. Maybe that honor should be shifted to Shyamalan now.

man Mexico is brutal think they almost made M Night cry lol

good thing jackson was there the second video is depressing

I feel bad for M. Night, but to be pragmatic, I think he's gotten the message that something went horribly wrong somewhere while making this film. Even if it makes enough money to warrent a sequel, Shyamalan knows he is still going to have to make amends somehow if he wants the audience to come back.

The box office didn't bomb.... it's already past 100m

Dragonball Evolution only grossed 50m, but then again it only cost 30m

It's not a box office bomb, but there was still a very negative reaction from the fans. People thought that the Star Wars fanbase was in a tizzy over Episode I, but that's nothing compared to how Avatar fans are reacting to TLA. They're going to have a real problem on their hands if they don't do something to fix this, because it could mean a much weaker opening weekend for the second film if it gets made. And no matter how much the film is able to make at the box office, it's always going to be hanging over Paramount and Shyamalan's heads that it would have made more if it had actually been a good movie.
