The Last of Us The Last Of Us 2

The spoilers I think actually did me a favour, because I’ve always been sceptical a sequel to the first game would work. There’s going to be a hell of a backlash to ND.

Doing my damndest to try to avoid these spoilers.

As much as I don't like what the disgruntled employee did to Naughty Dog if the conditions and payment were as bad as has been rumoured I can kinda see why someone would do something so drastic. The employee who leaked this may have gotten to the point where he or she said to themselves damn the consequences. I read some games journos saying the leaker should have gone to the media with their issues, but that would have resulted in little more than some corporate response from ND and would have changed little. What the employee has done here is going, and has already started to hurt ND. The ends don't justify the means, but ND may have no-one to blame but themselves for the situation even getting to this point in the first place.

I couldn't help myself. I wanted to check for a friend because she is shelling out for the expensive version. If they are all true, then I honestly don't want to play this game anymore. And I say that as someone who really, really wants to play this game.

That plot summary from 4chan that people pass around is definitely fake. Piggybacking of the leaked clips.

Does anyone have a link to the spoilers? I dont want the footage. Just spoilers. I'm trying to find them myself, but every spoilery reddit post that might have had them seems to be getting deleted. There is a **** ton of game journal articles repeating the same thing, "Last of Us 2 leaks! No Spoilers!" Gee, thanks that's real helpful game journalists.

Feel free to PM me a link or the spoilers if you dont want to post it in the thread.

Edit: I managed to find some of the spoilers.

I was fine with them continuing Joel and Ellie's story. I was fine with them making a game with entirely new protagonists. I'm NOT fine with what they have done which is Dan and Dave GOT season 8 levels of ****.:cmad: Between the plot and the apparently god awful workplace practices this game is an easy pass for me. I'll wait for it to drop below $20 or when it is offered for free on PS+.

I can PM you confirmed info if you want.

Got some main stuff spoiled for me when I become too curious to avoid reading the chaotic Twitter threads. Knew it would happen, don't think it will ruin the experience much for me though.

20-25 hours of context is missing. I think it's a bit premature to get so upset.

If the game is finished, and I have to believe it is, they should release it digitally this Friday or next Friday. It's the only way to counter this absolute PR nightmare. Get the full game into the hands of players asap, and let the full game speak for itself. It's a hail mary play, but it's the only thing they can do at this point. And release the physical version in June.

Or they can sit on it, spend the next month and half trying to downplay the Woke of Us spoilers, issue corporate platitudes, and beg the fanbase to trust them.

I don't think there's any need. People will return to their senses in a week. I bet vast majority are still eagerly anticipating the release in less than 2 months.

I don't know about that, this feels very different. It's one thing to try something new with a sequel, it's another thing to completely stab the last game in the back. It smacks of 'subverting expectations'. I don't understand what it is with creative people in the entertainment industry at the moment doing this. It's like they don't care about the stories that came before anymore.

How do people figure out it stabs the first game in the back without knowing the story of the part 2? It's like people learned that The Sopranos will end on abrupt black screen without actually experiencing the road to that ending. And without it it's impossible to evaluate the ending properly, which was brilliant in execution.

You can say that for literally anything though. Of course execution matters, but the idea itself still has to make people want to engage with it. If Boeing were to make a functioning airplane made out of tooth picks chances are no matter how well crafted it was there wouldn't be too many people willing to board the thing for a test flight because the idea doesn't sound good in the first place.

You're presenting an absurd concept. Is it really comparable with the examples above?

It's not absurd if you think of story telling from a structural perspective. It's been shown there's really only are a handful of stories across all cultures of the world that have a strong structural integrity, and by that I mean something where all the pieces work together to creative a natural whole that hit people emotionally. In the same way there are a limited number of colours in the colour wheel to paint with, and only so many notes in the musical scale to write music with, there's really only a limited number of stories that have a strong enough structural integrity for writers to work within. When you try and break the structures that are known to work you get the same result as that airplane made out of tooth picks - rejection.

I would agree if we knew more about the part 2. Right now we only have a few isolated clips that people choose to interpret in a very blunt manner, stripping the story of possible nuance and detail.

I'll talk a bit about the leaks without going into details, so be careful not to read it randomly everyone, lol:
Right now we're looking at what seems to be 2 games/stories in one package and one overarching narrative. And for me it's really interesting, because I'm tired of pleasant, vanilla, fan-service-y stories. I wanted the game to challenge things and it looks like it's going to. At the same time, it's too early to judge if they succeeded or failed at it. Factual demise of certain characters tells me nothing about artistic intent and how it's executed.

I've been a fan of ND for over a decade. Uncharted and Last of Us are some of my best gaming experiences. Ive bought numerous copies of all those games. Any ND game was a day 1 for me. And I know that the gameplay in this will be great just like every other ND game. I've defended inclusion and representation repeatedly with numerous game series and films and books.

But what ND has done here is comparable to what Dan and Dave did to GOT Season 8. The director and/or writers were too high on their own supply and tried to be too "clever".

Major spoilers follow so anyone not wanting to spoil the game should NOT open the follow SPOILER tag!

And what's equally bad is they made the instrument of their subversion
a trans character. Its baffling to me that those in charge of production didnt understand why it was a monumentally bad idea to have a new trans playable protagonist literally beat Joel and Ellie to death. That they didnt understand the sort of backlash this would cause against not just this game, but also the whole initiative of increased representation in the game industry.

There are smart ways to be woke and add representation. This isnt it. This is the drunk bull in a china shop way.

I have a few questions (spoilers):
1) Do you have a source that Abby is a trans? People keep bringing it up, but I don't see any proof of it.
2) Beating up Ellie and Joel are scenes that lack context. We don't know if they deserved that or if Abby has valid reasons to be so angry at them (half of the game will be dedicated to her, plenty of time to explore her motivations, life and so on). Also, what makes you think that Ellie dies in this?

I just don't understand what it is about these creative people in these industries about subversion over the last few years. Whether it's this or GOT or Star Wars or whatever. It's like they don't care about what came before nor that people get attached to works of art. That thing you like? It doesn't matter. It's narcissistic art, it's mean spirited and frankly has become borderline trolling.

What did ND subvert exactly? I mean in a sense of it being offensive/illogical/underdeveloped like in case of TLJ or later seasons of GoT?

I don't want to write the spoilers down because it's not fair to others, not even in tags in case someone accidentally hit the button, but lets just say if the leaks are true there's an "interesting" gameplay choice that appears to have been made.

I wasn't that interested in this game to begin with. but that's also because I have yet to play the 1st game.

but holy heck, those leaks are hot garbage, if true.

now, whatever small amount of interest I had in Part 2 is gone, and I don't even have the desire to play the 1st game, either. Nor am I interested in that reported tv series. Why should I bother investing my interest in this story and these characters?
