The Last of Us The Last Of Us 2

My fear is that TLOU 3 is gonna be the Winds of Winter of games and the show continues beyond TLOU 2 without it.

Not surprised. Their neXt game is a rumoured fantasy game which I've read about two years ago.

That has me about as excited as I can get for a game. If ND fully apply themselves and are passionate about a fantasy project, it’s going to by my dream game!

That said it feels like all that work on Factions will be wasted if TLOU3 isn’t their next game. If they’d used all that work for a Factions mode attached to TLOU3 I think they could have salvaged a lot and minimised the damage of those wasted years.

I'm watching the Grounded II doc, made it to this part and had to turn it off and step away for a bit because it made me shake with anger. I feel so sorry for her and I'm afraid that these bastards are going to go on a similar crusade with the show.

They need to investigate and jail these people. No way they are out there contributing a whole lot to society.

If the show continues to blow up further with the second season I think there will be internal pressure to at least make it the game they work on/release after whatever is next is done. Given how long AAA games take these days they might need to work on both games at the same time if they have the staff numbers to do that. 7 years out from now would be too late to capitalise on the cross-media hype as effectively. I also thought after all this work on Factions that they might already be in TLOU mode mentally, but maybe after the cancellation they want to take a break from it.

I knew about the threats towards Laura, but didn't know about the threats made towards her son, it's just disgusting, every time I think these kinds of people can't unpleasantly surprise me anymore something like this comes up, why does every single fanbase in existence have to have a section of it composed of literal psychopaths who think this kind of behavior is ok?

That's because every demographic does.
It's not uniquely a entertainment fandom thing

same person claiming that Starfield is coming to Ps5 this year
Cool, hopefully a good port this time. Important game to get right and show pc players that they can expect good quality from future games/ports.

Its crazy how 2020 feels like many years ago and at the same time, it really isn't.

Good for those pc players finally getting this game.

Im not really into horror, but there's just impeccable about the gameplay of this. Like the movement when you control the playable characters, the action. Like I dread the horror but I enjoyed eXploring the setting theyve presented. The beauty of the graphiX/world they've built using their engine. It makes wonder what if Naughty Dog makes an open world game as beautiful looking as TLOU2 and Uncharted 4. That could be awesome.

The Last of Us Part II is truly an eXperience and I wish we were getting more games as good as this one, especially in the ps5 era.

It would’ve been better if you start the story as Abby and you have no idea that you’re searching for Joel, so you spend the first half of the game getting to know her, and she just talks about how she’ll stop at nothing to hunt this man, and then boom you see that her prey is Joel. The story is told in a way you didn’t know Joel and Ellie were in the game.

Why would that be better?

Speaking of Abby, that section in the stadium when we get a glimpse of their life there was one of my favorite sections in the game.

I like downtime moments like those.

Literally the point of the game, but ok.
I dunno about that. I had my own reasons for not playing tlou2 but I remember during launch and even before that with the leaks, there was so much hatred being spewed at the direction that they were taking with the story and people were even personally criticizing Neil Druckmann too. I definitely don't think the point was for that much hatred upon Abby.

I liked the last of us part 2, but the story was told sloppily and I agree Abby wasn’t meant to be hated. But when you just introduce her and she offs Joel right as she’s introduced, that’s not good storytelling to me. Joel and Ellie shouldn’t have been leaked or promoted. You spend the first 10 hours getting to know Abby. You see that she’s flawed, but ultimately is decent I suppose. Then she kills Joel and you can do the Ellie revenge tour and final third can have them face off. Just how I would have suggested they tell this story if this was the story they wanted to make

yeah, I think this would have been a much better approach. I remember a Youtuber saying something like "Abby needed to have her own tlou1 to mirror Ellie" and I think that pretty much lines up with what you're saying.

it was after tlou2 that I feel like the reputation ND had for storytelling & development was a tad bit tainted. tlou2 was not beloved the way the first game was.

It was a deliberate choice to have the player know nothing about Abby, so you are more closely aligned with Ellie during her section of the game. Likewise, I believe ND wanted the Abby story to start with her still seen as a villain so as to build up your understanding and empathy for her over time.

If I was to guess, I reckon the TV series might restructure it a little. It tends to step back from the POV of central characters, so the story might unfold differently.

I get that. It wants you to hate Abby, then see her story and realize life is about perspective and two sides to every story etc. no one is right it wrong in this world just not the best way to tell that story in my opinion. And how they killed Joel was lazy and dumb which didn’t help.

even if that was ND's intention, it still ended up being a misfire in storytelling on their part given the initial reception. as for the TV show, iirc, I think I read somewhere that the second game is gonna get split up into two seasons so maybe they will start off by giving more of a backstory to Abby. or just a generally different vision overall.

I wouldn't describe it as a storytelling misfire. It also received a bunch of glowing praise. Business-wise it was probably a mistake to put out something so divisive, but like a lot of divisive stuff I doubt ND anticipated the reaction they got. The level of it at least.

sigh. I always seem to end up liking these fanbase-splintering events
