The Last of Us The Last Of Us 2

Just got my copy left outside my door. Can't wait to play this. It's got 2 discs and is downloading rn.
I read about this Abby character and I'm cool with it.
It is what it is just so long as it's executed well I'm more than ok. Can't wait to get stuck in.

I'm going to just recommend that anyone who's posting about specific content of the game thinks about what they're posting for a second and what people who haven't read the spoilers can get from it. This is not a formal warning or anything, but a few posts have had to be edited recently to be spoiler tagged. Making allusions to major plot points some don't want to know is just not a good idea. Please just tag stuff in the future, it makes life a little easier and it's a courtesy to others who don't want to know.

In all fairness, let's be honest, a lot of the people trashing leaks were getting things wrong.

Everyone who was on the early hate train for this said Ellie was going to die. She doesn't.

From what I can understand:

Joel gets killed early on in the game by a new character named Abby. You end up playing as Abby for most of the game.

I think the idea is the game is trying to make a statement about how toxic and poisonous vengeance is and how awful it is when you seek violent retribution. It just makes everything worse and just destroys everyone and everything.

There is a lot to unpack, and a lot of it is spoilery. I will say that the game is super violent and not kind to pretty much any character in this game. Especially the characters from the first game. The next bit is a spoiler, but one I think they should have revealed in the first place, but I want you to be warned encase you don't want to know.

You do not play as Ellie for the entire game. Half of the game is played as another character.

I appreciate the replies, gentlemen. Thank you.

Normally I don't click on spoiler stuff but I did this time if for nothing else I just wanted to understand why the game is garnering so much hate from the gamer community. Imo, the hate seems to be both understandable yet at the same time it is probably overblown.

Critics seem to love the game though and I throughly loved the first one, so, I'm probably gonna pick this up soon.

From what I've read and played so far the hate is definitely overblown. I love the first game; just completed my 5th replay of it only last night and I'm loving the direction taken...so far.

Society needs a re-education about not hating people for disagreeing with them. There's a lot of hyperbole getting thrown around on all sides of this.

If people do like this game, and it looks gameplay wise, it looks impressive...you don't need to drag them down over it like it's a personal offense to your existence.

If someone maybe didn't like this game or disagreed with some of the story choices, it doesn't mean they are some sort of alt-right nazi.

We can enjoy and maybe not enjoy things and we need to get back to being able to respectfully disagree with others opinions.

I'm about 8 hours into the game. Strictly speaking on what I've played so far the story is just not grabbing me. None of the new characters are half as engaging as ones from the first game. The gameplay is a wash, rinse, repeat of the previous game, which can be fine if you like a comfort zone of playing what you know.

I'm still early in the game, but I am sincerely hoping it picks up some steam very soon.

Giving up a lot of Star Wars boards, including our own, has helped me a lot in this regard. I know I have been the crazy overly emotional fan. I get that. But you can be that, and not attack others.

Also the new trend of basically grouping all criticism with the worst elements is just... nah.

Totally me too. I admit I've been guilty of the emotional fan stuff too. I can even understand the anger over Last Jedi, but I can also understand the praise the movie gets as well considering the delayed mass hysteria that happened for Force Awakens after the honeymoon period wore off. I get with our opinions we can go to extremes, but I don't want to hate anybody for their opinions either.

Yeah I really heavily disliked Rise of Skywalker, but I mean I love Mandalorian. And I mean if Star Wars can kind of continue delivering more stuff like Mandalorian, etc. I can deal with that.

That's why a lot of the rage videos on YouTube kind of annoy me. Like OK, you don't like Rey and how her story was told focus on that. Rose, yes, flawed character I agree. But some of the rage videos then just get really mean spirited and hateful and that's when I tune out.

It’s easy YouTube money. Plain and simple.

The Mandalorian board here is basically my Star Wars safe haven at the moment. :funny:

I definitely get you on the YT rage videos. Especially as I do feel like many are genuine, many also seem built to play into the hysteria surrounding whatever is being discussed.

That's kind of what turned me off from a lot of those videos and channels like Geeks & Gamers. They are milking the hate for clicks and that annoys me. IMHO it ruined Midnight's Edge with all the anti-Captain Marvel videos.

Even Game of Thrones Season 8. You could pretty much get a guaranteed 500K clicks if you did one competently edited GoTS8 sucks video.

Getting back to Last of Us 2. I saw the Skill Up review video. I think he did fair review of Last of Us 2. He didn't give it some arbitrary score or whatever. And now Skill Up is getting attacked on Twitter claiming he did his review to fuel alt-right hysteria. And then Skill Up basically had to defend himself which wasn't necessary.

I don't think Skill Up was excessively hating on the game just to hate on the game. I think he made fair points. But I haven't played Last of Us 2 either.

Now in terms of overall story and gameplay, Uncharted 2 is probably my favorite thing from Naughty Dog.

I love Chloe, one of my favorite character. I still wish Drake would've ended up with Chloe. The reason I feel that way is because I felt like I spent all of Uncharted 2 pursuing her and trying to save her. But unfortunately, we only get one romantic outcome for these games.

I love Chloe. Lost Legacy might be my favorite game. But Drake and Elena belong together imo.

For me, ND's big three are Among Thieves, The Last of Us and the Lost Legacy. I can't really choose between them, as they all have their strength and flaws. That said, the first Uncharted is actually kind of bad and the third one is a bit disappointment imo. The first game is so primitive that I almost didn't play Among Thieves after how much praise the first one got. While the third game clearly got cut short in development, and the last fourth of the game really shows it imo.

Uncharted 4 is really good, but has some rather large pacing issues imo.

I'm a couple of hours in, just got to
Seattle. Joel's death threw me for a curve because a big death was obviously imminent given that it's been promoted as a revenge story, but I thought that it was going to be Dina getting killed early on which would set Ellie off. Not gonna lie, I feel a real sense of loss that I haven't felt in a video game before but I'm still enjoying the game. I just had to take a break after that happened to process it. I'll obviously have more thoughts on it once I finish the game (I haven't read any spoilers) but that was a pretty big event to happen so early on.

Well, this game should give 'em about another 6 months worth of revenue, lol. If only the games media would ignore them. Oh wait, they won't be able to because they need to show how morally superior they are. They'll accuse the metacritic score of being bombed and will conveniently ignore the valid criticisms towards the game, they will throw out the 'ists' and 'phobes' labels to shield the game, the youtubers will respond in kind calling the journos shills and screaming 'get woke go broke', and the circle jerk between the two will continue because they both make money out of it. I agree with you on Midnights Edge to some degree, I use to listen to them regularly but the channel has become little more than a ***** fest about pop culture.
