There are certainly issues with the second game but to me they are small things that a bit of tweaking could easily sort.

For example
Joel’s death will absolutely need to be rewritten. Both in terms of how early it happens and the scene itself. The scene itself because Joel and Tommy tell this random group who they’ve just met, their names, where they are based and also that they are stocked. Something they would absolutely not do. Even as someone that enjoyed Part 2 all this stuff stuck out like a sore thumb.

I liked Abby’s story a lot but I do think it can be told with Joel being in the story more. I think what pissed people off was the marketing suggesting that Joel was going to be a big part again which was clearly a lie.

However, a lot of it is just people being ******** that a girl could be swoller than their fragile egos.

This latest episode was awesome. I’ve watched it twice, something which I didn’t actually do for the first two episodes. It’s just such a well told and acted story.

I just find it absolutely hilarious that the typical hatemongering YouTubers are hating this episode after praising the first two. People like Geeks/Gamers, HeelsvBabyface, Shadiversity all throwing rage boners because this show had the audacity to flesh out a story clearly hinted at in the games. All crying that this was a pointless episode when anyone with a brain stem can see how this episode is massively relevant to future episodes. It’s just so sad that the only reason that they hate this episode so much is because there’s two gay people taking up most of the screen time. It’s quite clear that that is their only complaint. It’s so blatantly homophibic that it’s depressing.

All those brotubers would be so much happier if they just realized they ARE Bill (at the beginning of the story)

Angry, arrogant yet self-hating shut-ins who've only ever shown affection for their possessions, longing for a love they won't allow themselves to feel

It’s more just how amusing it is how they can’t seem to handle a gay story. They keep saying this was agenda driven and woke and “stunning and brave”, in a sarcastic way. Even saw Nerdrotic say “a gay story in 2023, how groundbreaking” and it’s like, don’t you realise what you’re essentially saying is that EVERY single story dealing with a gay story is now agenda driven.

They’ve set the bar that literally anything gay is woke propaganda. There can’t possibly be a gay story that’s actually authentic and emotional. In their heads that’s impossible. I’d love love LOVE to see them get asked the question “okay, so let’s say you’re right and every gay story is agenda driven propaganda. Could you then provide me a scenario in which a filmmaker could display a gay story authentically that you’d be happy with?” Their brains would explode as they’ll realise that they would never be happy with any gay story, therefore outing themselves as the homophobes they are.

So, at the end of Blind Wave’s Q&A in their reaction to this past episode, it got me thinking of and posing a fun little question that someone brought to them:

If you were on your final day alive, and you absolutely knew it was going to be your final day, what would you have as your last meal?

For me, I have a few options that I can think of:
  • Applegate brand chicken apple sausage, and organic mixed vegetables with a little bit of pink salt and butter on top. Pretty much my go-to thing to have when we don’t have time or my parents are too tired to do anything super elaborate. My main comfort food of choice.
  • Grass-fed, organic pot-roasted beef, carrots and potatoes, slowly roasted in an electronic pot. Simple and basic, but still great. Have this every so often, but it’s always good every time it’s prepared.
  • Homemade, stove-cooked stir fry, just the way my dad makes it, or as close to it as possible. I’m talking chopped up bellpeppers, onions, carrots, broccoli and chicken with white jasmine rice, topped with some butter and teriyaki sauce. It’s not really true Chinese cuisine, but I still love the way my dad makes it, and it’s delicious.

What would you guys put down?

Finally caught the episode today. The first two episodes were amazing but this one just took it to a whole other level. I cried so hard at the end. What a beautiful, powerful chapter and an amazing queer love story. Offerman and Bartlett were fantastic. I’ll be totally pissed if they get ignored for Emmys. Kudos to the writers and the showrunners as well. This is the best show on TV right now, easily.

What an incredible episode of television that was. Broke me. Just wow, so beautiful and emotional. This show is something special that honors the game but also stands on its own. What a great adaptation it has been. Easily the best gaming adaptation. And I don’t think it’s even close.

All the homophobes coming out of the wood work on social media, as expected unfortunately. Just sad.

It really is pathetic. How DARE they make a gay character gay on a show? And how dare they SHOW it? I have no patience for any of these homophobic turds, because they would prefer that people like me either don’t exist or don’t have any representation in the media except to be the occasional butt of a joke. Eff ‘em.

It's bizarre though because Bill was always hinted at being gay in the original game even with his relationship with Frank being much different. That was always there and a part of the character.

I tend to not pay much attention to these folks because there's better things I could be doing than wasting my anger on them. Plus, let other people dunk on them like they deservedly have.

1. My mother's Spaghetti & Meatballs
2. Fried Chicken sandwich with homemade Mac & Cheese
3. Filet Mignon and a Twice-Baked Potato
I'm a basic b****

Only just seen episode 3, very emotional and well done. Your average zombie show has nothing on this level.
Funny you should say this. I had been trying sell my wife on watching this a few weeks ago because she can't handle anything zombie-related. I had been mentioning that there's early praise for Episode 3, which I had assumed would cover traversing a booby-trapped town leading into the snare-trap shootout, calling it one of the best action scenes in the game. And of course you get the promise of Nick Offerman playing Bill.

Then this aired and it reframed my thinking entirely about this as an adaptation. It would be so easy to just adapt those story and action beats from the game, but how long until it just becomes a macguffin hunt of the week at best, and The Walking Dead at worst? What a brilliant move to flesh out Bill and Frank, thus giving their life together a purpose to influence personal change in Joel and Ellie, in service to getting them closer to Wyoming.

Yeah, this show can appeal to people like me who otherwise are bored of the zombie apocalypse (or weren’t interested in the first place). It was the same for the games. There are so many out there but TLOU stands well above them. The strength of the characters and their interrelationships is what elevates it so far beyond.

This. In the original game, Frank was a cautionary tale of what Joel could have become if he continued to stay cold and not let people in, while in the show, he propels Joel's development toward eventually warming up to Ellie because of how much he grew to care about Frank. Both vastly different outcomes, but ones that still affect Joel's character.

Offerman and Bartlett were fantastic. I’ll be totally pissed if they get ignored for Emmys.
I don't think they will because they qualify for the Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama category so the noms are practically all but guaranteed. What breaks my heart is that Bartlett and Offerman can't both win. If I had to choose between the two I'd probably go with Offerman.

In fact, I think everyone in this show apart from Joel and Ellie are credited as guest roles since it's only Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey in the titles. The Guest Actor and Actress categories at the Emmys could be flooded with TLOU cast.

Damn. This episode hit me.

I had a live in partner and we broke up last December and just stopped seeing each other few weeks ago..
Sorry to hear that, @psylockolussus . I know what you mean too, the song especially got me thinking about past relationships I've been in that didn't work out for whatever reason and what could have been. There are so many layers involved to this episode and it's been on my mind since Sunday night. It's just so relatable.

The show (and the games) is what I always wanted out of Walking Dead outside of season 1 post Frank Darabont. It's also what the Walking Dead comics used to be before they became silly as well.
The Walking Dead got that way because it was AMC's golden goose and they unnecessarily dragged it out as a result. I can see why they did it because AMC was and still is trying to stay afloat but at 16 episodes per season it starts to get stale after a while. It became too repetitive with the formula of "The group runs afoul of a group of bad people, defeats leader of said group, peace time for a while, the group runs afoul of another group of bad people, rinse and repeat". I kept watching until the end but I was mentally checked out after season 8.

I do follow some of the “hate” YouTubers purely because I do think it’s good to stay aware of what these crazy people say and sometimes I do find myself agreeing with them. The only one I actually respect and properly enjoy though is Mauler because he is actually analytical in his approach, he will have a problem then actually delve into why that is a problem in regards to storytelling and because he’s so thorough I often come away agreeing with him.

Compared to the likes of Critical Drinker, Nerdrotic etc who literally just spout **** without any detail most of the time, calling everything woke. Anyway so Mauler was on a stream last night discussing the show with HeelsvBabyface and Nerdrotic and it was actually hilarious seeing someone who is analytical versus two people who just spout hate speech.

The most egregious example being when Mauler asked Heels to describe character traits of Frank and Bill, and he just said “theyre gay” and Mauler just replied “really? That’s it” and you could tell he was almost taken aback by how ignorant Heels was being. So Heels asked Mauler to describe traits and Mauler methodically and eloquently spoke for a few minutes breaking down the character traits of Bill and Frank, complemented the writing and the story. Then after he was done all Heels could do was go back to say “it’s gay propaganda” and you could just tell Mauler was almost shocked at how shallow the arguments were.

Both Heels and Nerdrotic (who was flicking through comics as this discussion was happening without getting involved at all, only to pipe up to say it was also just a gay fest) came across as blatant homophobes. The way Mauler was dismantling the episode just showed that the ONLY reason they didn’t like it was cause it was two gay guys. That’s it, no ifs ands or buts, they were backed into a corner till all they could say was it was too gay.

AMC is the sole reason The Walking Dead died a slow death. The way they handled the budgets are what killed the show. Ever wondered why characters would just disappear for 3/4 episodes at a time? Well AMC tried to save money by only paying the actors for the episodes they starred in, so rather than paying a bunch of actors for a full season, they paid them for 3/4 episodes each. Which just ****ed everything up. The whole story had to take a backseat while the writers had to find a way to basically fit the cast in to a certain amount of episodes, meaning everything was just spliced and gutted with horrific pacing issues.

Mauler is someone I disagree with half the time, but I do appreciate that he does provide a lot of constructive criticism with stuff he has issues with and the few times he doesn't. He's a league above all these other guys.
