All the homophobes coming out of the wood work on social media, as expected unfortunately. Just sad.
So, at the end of Blind Wave’s Q&A in their reaction to this past episode, it got me thinking of and posing a fun little question that someone brought to them:
If you were on your final day alive, and you absolutely knew it was going to be your final day, what would you have as your last meal?
For me, I have a few options that I can think of:
- Applegate brand chicken apple sausage, and organic mixed vegetables with a little bit of pink salt and butter on top. Pretty much my go-to thing to have when we don’t have time or my parents are too tired to do anything super elaborate. My main comfort food of choice.
- Grass-fed, organic pot-roasted beef, carrots and potatoes, slowly roasted in an electronic pot. Simple and basic, but still great. Have this every so often, but it’s always good every time it’s prepared.
- Homemade, stove-cooked stir fry, just the way my dad makes it, or as close to it as possible. I’m talking chopped up bellpeppers, onions, carrots, broccoli and chicken with white jasmine rice, topped with some butter and teriyaki sauce. It’s not really true Chinese cuisine, but I still love the way my dad makes it, and it’s delicious.
What would you guys put down?
Funny you should say this. I had been trying sell my wife on watching this a few weeks ago because she can't handle anything zombie-related. I had been mentioning that there's early praise for Episode 3, which I had assumed would cover traversing a booby-trapped town leading into the snare-trap shootout, calling it one of the best action scenes in the game. And of course you get the promise of Nick Offerman playing Bill.Only just seen episode 3, very emotional and well done. Your average zombie show has nothing on this level.
Yeah, this show can appeal to people like me who otherwise are bored of the zombie apocalypse (or weren’t interested in the first place). It was the same for the games. There are so many out there but TLOU stands well above them. The strength of the characters and their interrelationships is what elevates it so far beyond.Funny you should say this. Then this aired and it reframed my thinking entirely about this as an adaptation. It would be so easy to just adapt those story and action beats from the game, but how long until it just becomes a macguffin hunt of the week at best, and The Walking Dead at worst? What a brilliant move to flesh out Bill and Frank, thus giving their life together a purpose to influence personal change in Joel and Ellie, in service to getting them closer to Wyoming.
This. In the original game, Frank was a cautionary tale of what Joel could have become if he continued to stay cold and not let people in, while in the show, he propels Joel's development toward eventually warming up to Ellie because of how much he grew to care about Frank. Both vastly different outcomes, but ones that still affect Joel's character. Then this aired and it reframed my thinking entirely about this as an adaptation. I don't think they will because they qualify for the Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama category so the noms are practically all but guaranteed. What breaks my heart is that Bartlett and Offerman can't both win. If I had to choose between the two I'd probably go with Offerman.Offerman and Bartlett were fantastic. I’ll be totally pissed if they get ignored for Emmys.
Sorry to hear that, @psylockolussus . I know what you mean too, the song especially got me thinking about past relationships I've been in that didn't work out for whatever reason and what could have been. There are so many layers involved to this episode and it's been on my mind since Sunday night. It's just so relatable.Damn. This episode hit me.
I had a live in partner and we broke up last December and just stopped seeing each other few weeks ago..
The Walking Dead got that way because it was AMC's golden goose and they unnecessarily dragged it out as a result. I can see why they did it because AMC was and still is trying to stay afloat but at 16 episodes per season it starts to get stale after a while. It became too repetitive with the formula of "The group runs afoul of a group of bad people, defeats leader of said group, peace time for a while, the group runs afoul of another group of bad people, rinse and repeat". I kept watching until the end but I was mentally checked out after season 8.The show (and the games) is what I always wanted out of Walking Dead outside of season 1 post Frank Darabont. It's also what the Walking Dead comics used to be before they became silly as well.
It really is pathetic. How DARE they make a gay character gay on a show? And how dare they SHOW it? I have no patience for any of these homophobic turds, because they would prefer that people like me either don’t exist or don’t have any representation in the media except to be the occasional butt of a joke. Eff ‘em.

Mauler is someone I disagree with half the time, but I do appreciate that he does provide a lot of constructive criticism with stuff he has issues with and the few times he doesn't. He's a league above all these other guys.I do follow some of the “hate” YouTubers purely because I do think it’s good to stay aware of what these crazy people say and sometimes I do find myself agreeing with them. The only one I actually respect and properly enjoy though is Mauler because he is actually analytical in his approach, he will have a problem then actually delve into why that is a problem in regards to storytelling and because he’s so thorough I often come away agreeing with him.
Compared to the likes of Critical Drinker, Nerdrotic etc who literally just spout **** without any detail most of the time, calling everything woke. Anyway so Mauler was on a stream last night discussing the show with HeelsvBabyface and Nerdrotic and it was actually hilarious seeing someone who is analytical versus two people who just spout hate speech.
The most egregious example being when Mauler asked Heels to describe character traits of Frank and Bill, and he just said “theyre gay” and Mauler just replied “really? That’s it” and you could tell he was almost taken aback by how ignorant Heels was being. So Heels asked Mauler to describe traits and Mauler methodically and eloquently spoke for a few minutes breaking down the character traits of Bill and Frank, complemented the writing and the story. Then after he was done all Heels could do was go back to say “it’s gay propaganda” and you could just tell Mauler was almost shocked at how shallow the arguments were.
Both Heels and Nerdrotic (who was flicking through comics as this discussion was happening without getting involved at all, only to pipe up to say it was also just a gay fest) came across as blatant homophobes. The way Mauler was dismantling the episode just showed that the ONLY reason they didn’t like it was cause it was two gay guys. That’s it, no ifs ands or buts, they were backed into a corner till all they could say was it was too gay.
