Horror 'The Last of Us' HBO Series

So glad they actually spend time setting up Jackson unlike in the first game where we only got a glimpse of it from afar.

Also was that supposed to be
Dina?

Pretty sure yes because I thought the same thing. Too much of a coincedence otherwise.

For sure. Same place with all the lights as their dance/kiss in Part II.

I most definitely think that’s who it was supposed to be.

Also, I agree that the one girl spying on Ellie is 100% Dina. Too much of a coincidence for it not to be her and this show has done a great job with foreshadowing so far.
Druckmann and Mazin basically all but confirmed on the podcast that she was Dina. They were being a little coy about it but to me the fact that they brought it up means it's 100% her.

Between Jackson and Dina and all the things they were talking about this episode, my heart could not take the foreshadowing. :funny:

Pedro coming for that Emmy. :hrt:
Probably already earned with more episodes to go.

Yeah, what all you have said. This show is still excellent and I still love it.

So many things taken from and so much set up for Part II material:
-****ing Jackson! So many things! The setting amongst the snow and winter landscape, the lights, the interiors, the stables, everything! There were certain shots in this episode, down to the lighting and even the framing that just straight up looks like they were taken from the game! I don’t know how they were able to nail the aesthetic and lighting of everything, but props to the cinematographer, color grader and the lighting technicians on this, cause they ****ing nailed the look and feel of it here! It’s so much like I imagined. And replacing the dam section from the game with Jackson is such a smart change that not only makes complete sense, in retrospect it makes me wish that that had been in the game from the start.

-Shimmer!

-That was totally Dina!

-I don’t know if it’s just me, but the house that Tommy and Maria live in seems very reminiscent of the place that Ellie and Dina settle down in with baby JJ near the end of Part II. Wonder if she decides on that place because it reminded her of there and of Jackson? Also, maybe Tommy and Maria having a kid is also set up for Ellie and Dina deciding to settle down at the farmhouse with baby JJ? If so, those are good call forwards.

-Joel confessing to Tommy is totally setting up for that moment at the beginning of Part II when he tells him how and why he saved Ellie. On top of that, considering how much they’ve been paralleling the two, Joel having nightmares and panic attacks seems to be foreshadowing what Ellie will go through in future seasons after Joel’s death, and, maybe to a lesser extent, Abby’s nightmares of her father.

-Their conversation about Joel wanting to be a singer when he was younger and Ellie Making making him promise to sing to her later is definitely gearing towards that Part II moment with Joe singing and playing the guitar.

This ****ing show, man! It doesn’t ****ing miss!
Hello there, random HBO camera crew!

Another entry in the Hall of Fame, along with Jean Guy from the Mandalorian. Since it’s another show with Pedro Pascal, gotta have at least one.

I think they actually went back and removed Jean guy right? Haha

There's a ton of easter eggs from Part II that I don't think people even noticed like Tommy mentioning his long range sniper.
When Joel said something like "You could headshot a clicker from a half mile away" I immediately thought of Tommy teaching Ellie how to use a sniper rifle in Part II.

There's also a thing I noticed about this show that feels like a direct response to a show like The Walking Dead where they deliberately don't have "zombies" or zombie kills in every episode like they're filling a quota.

I pretty much noticed that right away as well and honestly, I find it super refreshing that a show like actually takes it time when it comes to worldbuilding and character development.

It's very much a character driven show which is a risky approach for something like this, but it works thanks to the great writing on top of all the fantastic performances across the board.

People going into this expecting a bunch of mindless action are definitely going to be disappointed and I've already seen a fair share of complaints about that online, but its for the better IMO.

...love how a typical show would have a half or full episode of Joel and Ellie split (ignoring the game).

Yet, we cut to the next morning and Joel intentionally delayed leaving.

Joel took his loss and knew deep down that if Ellie would have him, they'd leave together.

I loved the world building in early Walking Dead. Then it turned into who could come up with the meanest, nastiest human group. I got burned out on cruelty. :(

My theory about the next episode:

After Joel is injured in the game, we then for the first time shift over to Ellie as a playable character and the player is left wondering for a good long while whether Joel survived or not. I'm guessing that the next episode will be all flashbacks pertaining to Ellie, from her birth through adapting the Left Behind DLC all the way up to when she first meets Joel and Tess. To preserve the suspense for the audience who doesn't know the story, I don't think we'll pick up in the present day with Ellie and Joel where it's revealed he's still alive until Episode 8.

I feel so sorry for TLOU blind viewers because they'll have to wait two weeks to find out whether Joel actually died or not. :funny:
