Ah, ok.

I thought it was bascially a bomb at the box office. But maybe I'm just remembering everyone talk about how muched it sucked? Maybe it was Van Damme's Sudden Death that started his downward spiral at the box office, but I was almost for sure (without having to look it up) it began with Street Fighter. Oh well.

You know something? I just looked it up and I stand corrected - his biggest hit was Timecop. Street Fighter was third place, behind Universal Soldier. I read that Street Fighter was his biggest grosser over at Moviehole and just assumed it was true. Stupid Moviehole. :oldrazz:

The thing is, Van Damme was kinda like Steven Seagal back in the day... his movies usually had sub-$15 mil budgets, which is what made them become hits so easily... Street Fighter cost $35 mil, and only grossed a (not exactly impressive) $33 mil. Better than usual for Van Damme, but not good enough.

Interesting tidbit on the proposed DTV sequels. I had no idea that the idea was even being entertained. Would have been interesting to see how different or what kind of direction they would have wanted to take the franchise at that point I suppose ...

Since I'm citing my sources, I should mention this was something I read about way back in Entertainment Weekly back in the day. They did a little "Winner of the Week" piece on how Tremors 2 and Darkman II had proven to be extremely popular on video, and then mentioned some of the Universal Home Video division's upcoming DTV sequel projects, giving them each a little paragraph. I guess somewhere along the line, the "Street Fighter 2" project died on the vine.

so, it's not really a Street Fighter movie. it's a Chun-Li movie. which means the idiot who wrote this probably never even played Street Fighter nor has a clue of the story (and yes, there is a story).

now, the script may be great and the movie may turn out good, but it doesn't change the fact that this is NOT a Street Fighter movie. it's Kill Bison. :down

I don t want guile to be the leader like in the first one .why not Ryu or ken?

make the animated movie into live action, its the only way to go

Watch them cast Devon Aoki as Chun Li

God, that wouldn't surprise me. I'm sorry, but she is just so ugly and a weak actress. There's got about a 1,000 other Asian girls who could do this part.

Zhang Ziyi should be Chun Li.
I'd like to see her finally break out into Hollywood.

she can barely speak english. in TMNT i had no idea what she was saying

Latino Review has never disliked a script they reviewed. That's fine and all, but they offer no constructive criticism at all. I can't take them seriously. And even though it's positive, that script sounds ridiculous.

Just sounds like a cheap way of using the street fighter name and a couple of the characters.

i have no problem with a chuin li solo movie think of it as a spi-opff from SF

Except The Bourne Ultimatum, The Creature from the Black Lagoon remake, The Fast & The Furious: Tokyo Drift, Skip Woods' G.I. Joe (which he LOATHED), Guerilla, Ghost Rider, Tonight, He Comes, Rush Hour 3, The Untouchables: Capone Rising, Vantage Point and The Warriors remake.

Ahem. :oldrazz:

Ziyi is Chun-Li, no question. English skills aside, she can do well enough. The Chun-Li character isn't asian-american, she's just chinese.

Ziyi's pretty but Chun-Li she's not. Chun-Li actually has boobs and thick thighs. Ziyi has neither...

What about Michelle Yeoh? Or Gong Li? There are so many other asian actresses other then Ziyi who they could get to play Chun-li

As for the movie itself, it'll be interesting to see if they can actually pull this off.

After reading that script review... this movie sounds bad.

Five whole characters from the games wouldn't be the end of the world if they'd based the movie on the main characters from the series - Ryu and Ken. But of course, those two don't even show up.

With fewer characters, though, you expect them to have time to show what makes these fighters superhuman. And yet... the script has no super abilities. No fireballs, no lightning kicks, nothing. Just some kung-fu.

Yup, sounds like they missed the point yet again.

you forgot Lucy Lui? What about her?

You're choosing women in their 40's to play her. Chun Li is in her 20's.
