A Chun-Li movie isn't going to make money.

You people have learned nothing of the constant video game bombs and disappointments that come out every year.

So what if Chun-Li is a popular video game character? Video game is a big difference to a Hollywood movie. Video game characters and video games do NOT translate into quality movies.

I don't think there have been any successful video game to movie transitions :csad:

Tomb Raider, Resident Evil, Doom, Final Fantasy (doesn't really count) .......

Also Chun Li doesn't hold the same fanbase as Streetfighter as a whole. She's not really iconic enough to justify her own movie, or even to be the main player in a film including the likes of Ryu, Ken, Guile & M Bison.

I can't believe that it's not possible to translate a videogame into a good Movie. Everything's possible, you just need the right people working on it.

I agree anything's possible and I live in hope (I love those games and when the 1st films were coming out I was excited) - just noting that we have a 100% failure rate so far.

Video game movies are still in their phase of "geeks only eat these up, we don't have to try that hard." You see how long it took until comic book movies got decent writers/directors and A-listers. Halo may have been the first.

I love Kristen Kreuk as as much as the next heterosexual dude, but if she's gonna be the world famous Chun-Li she's gonna need to bulk up and get some meat on her bones. Now, I'm not saying she has to be overly muscular, just have some fighting muscle...cause right now she's the epitome of petite.

And she's even smaller now than she used to be! :wow:

normally i'd agree...but then this movie came out and changed my mind.

hopefully she'll do some training before they have to shoot the movie. if they're not going to properly train her with basic martial arts then they might as well just drop it. on the plus side, Kristin used to do gymnastics in school. she had to stop because of her scoliosis, but at least she's familiar with flips and tumbling.

So what?

Advent Children, I liked it a hell of a lot, but at the end of the day it was just one little direct to video movie. It wasn't made by Hollywood filmmakers.

You guys know who made it? SQUARE ENIX! Hollywood had nothing to do with it. It was made by the director of the Kingdom Hearts game!

Also the movie itself was pretty light on story and was a great collection of action sequences. It would NOT have played in theatres.

They aren't making Street Fighter or Chun-li or whatever like this.

Halo is NOT happening last time I checked. You know who directed Street Fighter way back when, the screenwriter of DIE HARD. So it doesn't matter even if you think the filmmakers are legit, the movie will still end up crap.

Video games are not good source material for theatrical movies. That simple.

I'm excited about the Resident Evil CG movie as well, but only because it's basically going to be made by Capcom much the same way Advent Children was. No Hollywood involvement, DVD only. That's it.

so what? it shows that video games and their characters CAN be translated to a quality movie, regardless of who was behind it.

You guys know who made it? SQUARE ENIX! Hollywood had nothing to do with it. It was made by the director of the Kingdom Hearts game!

regardless, it still showed that video games can be translated into quality flicks. people used to say comic book flicks would never make good movies, but what are they saying now? just because it hasn't been done doesn't mean it can't be done.

Also the movie itself was pretty light on story and was a great collection of action sequences. It would NOT have played in theatres.

maybe not in America, but in Asia it could've played in theaters and done decently at the box office.

Video games are not good source material for theatrical movies. That simple.

no, it's not that simple. the only reason you think it's that simple is because you're thinking simple-mindedly. Metal Gear, God of War, Metroid, Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed....all video games rich in story and concept that could easily be translated well to the big screen by quality directors with vision. there's a reason why Peter Jackson is still holding hope for a Halo movie and it's not because he thinks it can't be done. you tell Peter Jackson that it can't be done and all he'll need to do is show you his filmography.

I'm excited about the Resident Evil CG movie as well, but only because it's basically going to be made by Capcom much the same way Advent Children was. No Hollywood involvement, DVD only. That's it.

once again...it proves that video games CAN be translated into quality movies.

Woah, seriously? Was he on drugs or something when he directed the Movie?

And I still disagree. I don't see how games are much different from any other source material that gets turned into a movie. You've still got your characters, story, setting. You just need to be able to filter out what works and what doesn't.

Video games don't make good movies.

Female action heroes don't make good movies.

Having said that, I am somewhat intrigued by the premise, and surely (surely!) it can't be any worse than Van Damme's woeful effort.

What Terry and Crook said. It took forever to get a decent comic book movie (was Blade the first) and its taking even longer for a decent video game movie...but that doesn't mean its never going to happen.

I love Super Mario Bros, it's the only videogame based movie that I think is great.

Btw, in the original movie I thought Raul Julia was good as General Bison, everything else about it was horrible though.
