You're probably referring to my comment above. To be honest I don't think any of the Streetfighter characters are iconic enough (only Ryu even comes close) to hold their own film. I'm not meaning to single out Chun Li. Even as a huge Streetfighter fan, I wouldn't have that much interest in a film that only includes one Streetfighter character. There isn't enough material on any of them to make a good film so Hollywood will fill the gaps with all the usual ****. At least with more characters involved either in major roles or cameos, it could be fun watching them fight even if the rest of the film is total crap.

Or maybe, just maybe, they could make a film about a fighting tournament....ala Enter the Dragon.

so what? it shows that video games and their characters CAN be translated to a quality movie, regardless of who was behind it.

It was NOT that great. It was a fun 90 minute tribute to FF7 with some great action, not much else.

regardless, it still showed that video games can be translated into quality flicks. people used to say comic book flicks would never make good movies, but what are they saying now? just because it hasn't been done doesn't mean it can't be done.

Not all comic book movies are that great. I'd say only a handful are truly exceptional even though they are being churned out like mad now.

Everyone said that Silent Hill was going to be huge and fantastic and it wasn't.

maybe not in America, but in Asia it could've played in theaters and done decently at the box office.

:whatever: My point was it something like that does NOT play in American theatres, it would not have played.

no, it's not that simple. the only reason you think it's that simple is because you're thinking simple-mindedly. Metal Gear, God of War, Metroid, Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed....all video games rich in story and concept that could easily be translated well to the big screen by quality directors with vision. there's a reason why Peter Jackson is still holding hope for a Halo movie and it's not because he thinks it can't be done. you tell Peter Jackson that it can't be done and all he'll need to do is show you his filmography.

There's nothing really original about those games. Those games stories and characters themselves are really just the evolution or ripped straight from older, better Hollywood movies.

People act like Halo has this great original story, but it's not. Video games themselves are very derivative.

Having rich stories is not enough. Look what happened to the Resident Evil series. Doom. The list goes on and on.

once again...it proves that video games CAN be translated into quality movies.

It's not much of a movie to me since it was never released theatrically, and was just more of an extended OVA. Joe moviegoer doesn't care about Advent Children. Joe moviegoer probably wouldn't go see Advent Children in theatres.

All it really proves to me is that Hollywood can't make a good video game movie. And the actual makers of the game can just make a really long, badass cut sequence that was better than Spirits Within.

Hollywood isn't going to hire Tetsuya Nomura types to direct these video game films.

Look at Hitman too. It never ends. Chun Li is not a HW box office draw.

Woah, seriously? Was he on drugs or something when he directed the Movie?

No it was a mistake. I meant the screenwriter, who yes still probably was on drugs.

And I still disagree. I don't see how games are much different from any other source material that gets turned into a movie. You've still got your characters, story, setting. You just need to be able to filter out what works and what doesn't.

What works is that you play a video game and it's fun. It's active viewing and entertainment. Movies can't capture that in a game. Something people here have failed to realize.

To be fair, video game adaptions have generally had mediocre to poor directors so far. Steven E. de Souza, Paul W. S. Anderson, Jan De Bont, Simon West, Uwe Boll....the only notable directors to have done live-action video game adaptions are Christophe Gans and Corey Yuen, and they still did not produce good movies.

Which leads me back to my point tha the dude running this one aint all that.

Poor Kristin. I'll still love ya :(

I really hope they cast some decent people for the roles. I'm not too thrilled at Kristin being Chun Li, but maybe she'll do decent. But I'm really looking forward to see who they are going to cast as Bison, and most importantly, who get's to play my favorite character, the masked, psychotic, spanish man Vega.

Watch them get an Asian guy and just not show his face the entire movie. :oldrazz:

Best way to go, would probably to get two people. A stunt double that handles all the fights, and a pretty boy for close-ups when he acts like a total psycho, and talks about skinning rabbits.

I'd like that actually. Get a really good, acrobatic stuntman. Not even necessarily a martial artist but a gymnast and have his lines dubbed over by some pretty boy who's face can be shown for close-ups.

Yeah, a gymnast would probably do. When I think about it, all Vega does the majority of the time, is to jump and roll around. Doing some kicks and trying to strike with a claw wouldn't really require a lot of martial arts training for the Movie.

Make sure he's got a really annoying girly voice and constantly jumps off walls leaving him open to a dragon punch if timed correctly.... now let me stop before I reveal to much about my hours spent dying at the claw of that bastard.

I've been thinking a bit, for Bison how about Dolph Lundgren? I always wanted him as Guile, but with slick, black hair and an uniform he could also pass for Bison. IMO he's also got the facial structure and chin for the role.

He would honestly make a great Bison OR Guile imo. His age would actually help matters.

i agree as far as Dolph as Bison. Not sure about Kristin as Chun-Li. I have to say, her character in Smallville is really annoying.

Just for the fun of it let's go casting crazy.

Takeshi Kaneshiro for Ryu.

Tony Jaa is too small for Sagat so I'm going to say Adon for this guy. Just imagine him yelling "JAGUAR KICK!".

This one's a freebee since he's already played two boxers but Michael Jai White for Balrog.

is Kristin going to be in tight clothes for this movie? If so, I am SO in.

I can see Kaneshiro as Ryu, but he needs to buff up a little. Jaa as Adon, I don't know if I ever would want to see Adon in a Movie. As for Balrog, we should probably go with someone unknown for this role. I don't think we need an actor for that, we just need a big, black dude. One that looks reeeaaally intimidating.

It was NOT that great. It was a fun 90 minute tribute to FF7 with some great action, not much else.
i, myself, don't think it was all that...but it showed that a quality flick based on a video game is definitely possible.

Not all comic book movies are that great. I'd say only a handful are truly exceptional even though they are being churned out like mad now.

Everyone said that Silent Hill was going to be huge and fantastic and it wasn't.
not all comic flicks are good, true, but that has nothing to do with good comic book films being made after people said Batman & Robin killed the chance of a good comic book film.

as for Silent Hill...i don't know why you're bringing it up after i said that just because it hasn't been done YET doesn't mean it can't be done.

My point was it something like that does NOT play in American theatres, it would not have played.
as if America is the only place where good, quality movies are made and played...:whatever:

There's nothing really original about those games. Those games stories and characters themselves are really just the evolution or ripped straight from older, better Hollywood movies.
out of the movies i listed, the only you described was Metal Gear and even that series has plenty of originality. if God of War, Metroid, and Assassin's Creed are so unoriginal then give me some undeniable examples of movies they've borrowed from.

Having rich stories is not enough. Look what happened to the Resident Evil series. Doom. The list goes on and on.
of course having a rich story isn't enough. you need the right people behind it, but none of the video game movies thus far have had a credible director. a hack director can take a great script and make a crap movie out of it...but a great director can take a 'meh' script and make a great movie out of it. if you put a great director behind a video game that already has a great script.............well, i'll let you do the math.

It's not much of a movie to me since it was never released theatrically, and was just more of an extended OVA.
just because it wasn't released in the theaters doesn't change the fact that it is a movie. is a video game not a video game just because it didn't hit arcades first?

Joe moviegoer doesn't care about Advent Children. Joe moviegoer probably wouldn't go see Advent Children in theatres.
and just because Joe moveigoer isn't interested in it doesn't prevent it from being a good flick......case in point, No Country for Old Men. a critically hailed movie that only earned $37 mil in the theaters. on the other hand, National Treasure 2 (a totally mediocre flick) appeals to Joe moviegoer and has already gotten $65 mil in 4 days.

here's a tip for future conversations.....NEVER use a movie's popularity or box office potential as a measurement for a movie's QUALITY.

What works is that you play a video game and it's fun. It's active viewing and entertainment. Movies can't capture that in a game. Something people here have failed to realize.
if you say it can't be done then you'll get nowhere. people said Lord of the Rings and Sin City could never be translated into faithful, quality movies yet here we are enjoying their great success. when i watched Beowulf fight Grendel i thought to myself "this is straight out of God of War!"

if you keep looking with narrow vision then you'll never see the whole picture, but if you open your eyes you'll be able to see the possibilities. you're too focused on PAST events and movies to realize that the future is always uncertain. once again........just because it hasn't been done yet doesn't mean it can't be done. that is an inarguable statement that rings true with ALL forms of creation regardless if you believe it or not.

That's true but I've always taken Balrog for a talker. Someone arrogant that really can't shut up about how he's the champ.

Adon I'd just like to see for the fight scenes. That guy is spectacular in the game. Plus Tony Jaa has actually done all of his moves. His "Jaguar Kick" looks brutal.
