I think theres 2 things you are ALL forgetting:

1) This is a Chun Li movie so we can forget about Ken, Ryu and Guile

2) This is meant to be set when Chun Li is still a fairly young girl. So in that aspect Kristin has not neccessairly been cast as the Chun Li we all know.

thoughts?

Thoughts?

This movie = Crap

Kristen is still hot though.

Obviously but you gotta maybe consider those things.

Suddenly its less bad. Still dont want her to do the film...

The Avy is coming soon...

So no fantasy casting from you then?

eh...don't get me wrong, i think she's hot. Kristen Kreuk might be petite, but at least she's kind of proportionate. Maggie Q is straight up SKINNY!

Ew is that a corpse?

Kristin use to a bit thin especially when she was filming the Partition (require for role) but she's ok now. Still not built like say Biel (who is really), but fine for a young Chun Li or Alpha Chun Li

I didnt think Maggie Q was ever skinny, but I dont think she looks like Chun Li. The eyes aint there

Or maybe, just maybe, they could make a film about a fighting tournament....ala Enter the Dragon.
Yes!

I'd be intrigued to see who would win the various matches, especially between the more low profile guys.

Do you think she'll get her ass kicked like in the animated movie?

'Cause that was kind of a turn on!

E Honda will beat her ass.

Yeah that was a cool scene in the animated movie.

***** Please, you give E Honda a Subway sammich and punch to the gut and its a wrap......Baby Chun Li got this.

Where is there an animated fight between Chun Li and E Honda? I only remember the fight in the Chinese comics.

Have you SEEN the size of that dude's abs?! I think he can use that thing as a weapon. One hundred pimp slaps'll do it.

Bison: "You bleed like your father!"

...oh...oh god. Wrong-wrong image. :csad:

You're probably referring to my comment above. To be honest I don't think any of the Streetfighter characters are iconic enough (only Ryu even comes close) to hold their own film. I'm not meaning to single out Chun Li. Even as a huge Streetfighter fan, I wouldn't have that much interest in a film that only includes one Streetfighter character. There isn't enough material on any of them to make a good film so Hollywood will fill the gaps with all the usual ****. At least with more characters involved either in major roles or cameos, it could be fun watching them fight even if the rest of the film is total crap.

You're right, I was. How in the world is Ryu more iconic than the others? In what world? For what reason? How?

Agreed, none are iconic enough to hold their own film -- no one's going to go see a movie just because Chun-Li is in it -- but some do have some recognizability, because Street Fighter was pretty big as video games go at one time. I think that list is Chun-Li, Ryu and Ken. And maybe Guile and Blanka... maybe. Obviously, exactly how much recognizability is involved and what it will or will not mean is difficult to determine for anyone here.

With limited characters, we have a chance to tell a good story. It's a gamble yes, but it has more potential than taking the attitude. "It'll suck, they'll fill it with crap, might as well just make a crappy storyless movie."

Or, take the alternate route and make a gorgeous storyless movie, like Advent Children, and if they were going CGI to do over-the-top fight scenes, I'd be all for it, but as is, they're got real actors with real talent and cleverly selected street fighter characters that help the story. It has a chance to be a really good movie, and I would rather they went for it rather than settling on medicrity.

And it will almost assuredly spend some time in theatres, DTVs rarely create any 'buzz' at all. ESPECIALLY live action DTVs.

Ryu is treated as the main character in the animated move and in some games.....

That is why people look at Ryu and think...hey he is the lead.

Ryu as the lead makes the most sense, but I am very open to other characters having a stab at it.

Ryu totaly held is own in the animated movie. Guile and Chun Li were sub plots.

Maybe we'll get this.

All these statements are true. (Except that fighting games don't have 'main characters' per se). Additionally, Ryu is usually in the opening cinematics and Akuma, the 'final boss' of SF is his storyline. Ryu is, for all intents and purposes, the lead character in street fighter. I get that.

I don't believe that translates into much street recognizability because his costume is so generic. Anime movies would be irrelevant in such matters.
