The first Mortal Kombat movie is the best example how a Movie based on a fighting game should be. No yelling of names, the 3 main characters didn't have projectile attacks even though they had them in the game and no goofy or corny fighters. Well, there was Cage. But he was awesome.

The 1st MK film wouldnt be a bad template actually; it was the total opposite of the '94 SF movie - serious in tone with the emphasis on showcasing some outstanding fights.

It was great how they even managed to pull off moves like Liu Kang's bicycle kick without it looking totally goofy. I'd have a lot of faith if the same people who worked on the MK movie, would work on a SF movie. Ryu's Hurricane Kick would probably look fantastic.

i do agree that ryu's fireball is the main special movie that should feature but is he even in the film

but you need to have the 1000 kick thing she does, was it ever given an official name, the rest fo her movies i'm not fussed on

i hate to go back to it but the anime film showed the best was to exploit chun li's moves

They thought of a good way to pull the spinning kick off. Having her walk on her hands. But the multiple kicks are still too crazy. I wouldn't mind if they reduce it to 5-6 fast kicks max.

How would a person be able to twirl as fast as necessary for that "Spinning Bird Kick", and still maintain their balance in a handstand position? My guess is that they'll probably assist Kristin with wire work for that.

The Spinning Bird Kick could be something like that move in breakdance, but standing in one or both hands... that could get like 3 kicks, tops, but still could be cool if done really fast

sigh...I don't know. she's just not convincing at all to me as a martial artist.

It was done like this in the Street Fighter Alpha movie and it was pretty cool. Just a quick spin on the hands. Nothing extended.

I think it's actually a capoeira move except it's done with one hand.

Didn't Liu Kang throw a fireball at Shang Tsung?

Wasn't really a projectile. He was hitting Shang Tsung with both his fists and it looked charged with energy or something.

I actually watched MK for the 1st time in years last night after Nathan brought it up;

Liu's 2 fists discharging energy worked in the context of the scene. It wasn't overdone and didnt seem out of place.

Yeah, it was just out of this world. So, who knows how that other world's laws of physics worked. :oldrazz:

Regarding how the Hadoken (and all fireball special moves) could work is if they did it the same way they did in the Street Fighter II V anime; namely it's a long forgotten chi-based technique that only a few mastered and even fewer are honed as an actual weapon. The rest just do stuff like blow out candles with an invisible force, etc. Oh, and it takes ages of meditation before being able to pull one off.

Y'know - I'd never even considered that.

His energy discharge could totally have been a by-product of being in Outworld.

Of course, I forgot that Johnny Cage did perform the shadow kick in the woods against Scorpion just prior to being teleported; that would need some explaining.

Also, most of the major characters executed their signature moves on earth in the sequel - but that shouldnt count as it was, quite frankly, crap. :woot:

I think a straight up revenge plot is much easier for casual western audiences to digest than crazy anime magic fighting.

I wonder how the hell The Matrix and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon were able to cross the $100 million mark when this movie probably won't get more than 30.

big studio backing with a great marketing team, compared to tiny studio and a company called Fox who no longer cares.

The point is, he's saying that a stupid revenge plot is more accessible than crazy anime fighting for mainstream audiences which is BS.

Fact is, audiences like big fantastic, outlandish things in movie like this. It just needs the right execution.

This movie, even that new poster looks like Direct to Video bs. This will be the new DEAD OR ALIVE.

This is what happens when there's little faith in the source material. This is only being done because they know the Street Fighter name has fans who'll go check it out, no matter how lame it ends up being. At least Doom had hype. This has...nothing. I think they've even made a bad assumption with the built-in fans; once people realize that Ryu and Ken are nowhere to be found, the interest will most likely be minimal.

Well, there's not much story in Street Fighter to start with that fits a movie. . .

A TV series, on the other hand. . .

I really doubt I will take a Street Fighter movie seriously sorry. It seems like it is something that would only work well in animation.

Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie was a solid film, and it was good enough to inspire the Alpha series. A live-action movie that took that approach would be decent at the very worst.

True, and Street Fighter Alpha: The animated movie was leaps and bounds better. It's a shame Street Fighter Alpha Generations was terrible.

Again, the comic series is awesome. I wish they'd base a movie series off of that.

I agree. It works better in animation ala anime. Kinda like with Dragon Ball Z.
