Hollywood seems to like casting cute chicks from WB-type teen shows. According to my genitals, thats not necessarily a bad thing, but you dont put Kriten kreuk in the starring role of a movie this expensive. A movie with half the budget? Yeah, I couldd see a risk like that, only because tons of movies have already been made with cute WB-chicks with that kind of budget. It would still be tanking, but the risk seems to be something studios are willing to take. This movie, with this budget, and this star, is just not good business sense.

Believe or not, I didn't think this movie was that horrible. Does it have flaws? Hell yeah it does. I wasn't fond of alot of nonsense. Especially the Bison subplot about his daughter. That was pretty lame. This film does fall apart in the 2nd half. Pretty lackluster to say the least. Almost like they didn't know how to conclude things in the 3rd act. Moon Bloodgood was smoking hot though. :)

FYI, Bison transferring his conscience and soul into a child named "Rose" was taken straight from the games - so it's not actually the movie's idea. However, the idea that it was HIS daughter is new.

dude i was joking. this movie is bombing . kreuk is a bad actress, has no muscles for chun li and has nothing.
Sorry. I'm bad at noticing sarcasm unless its really obvious in writing. :hehe:

Capcom aims to be the "Marvel" of video-game movies

If you were one of those who saw Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li in theaters in the past week, you probably noticed a prominent logo at the start of the film. Screenshots of various historic Capcom games came together to form the CAPCOM logo - the first instance of Capcom's new approach to film branding.

Sure, the new Street Fighter didn't set the box office on fire, but Capcom doesn't seem to mind. With the successful Resident Evil film series already under their belt and Onimusha recently having finished shooting in Asia, they're ready to take Hollywood by storm. They see themselves at the video game world's answer to Marvel - and just like Marvel brought new readers to their comics via films like Spider-Man and Iron Man, Capcom believes they can turn more people onto their games by producing a wave of new film adaptions.

The company’s senior director of corporate communications, Chris Kramer, recently talked to GameDaily, saying that the gaming corporation was very pleased with how The Legend of Chun Li turned out in spite of the critical reception.

“Critics were unkind to the first Street Fighter movie as well, but that film has been ridiculously profitable for Capcom over the last decade," Kramer said. "The original SF movie still generates millions of dollars in royalties for Capcom every year, thanks to cable, foreign distribution, home video, DVD and Blu-Ray sales. And Capcom would be receiving even more money if that had been a co-production deal!”

Kramer went on to say that his company would adopt the Marvel-way of making movies based on existing IPs, as the comic book giant saw a lot of success with the films it has made with its famous characters. Also, the upcoming movie of Onimusha is another Capcom co-production in order to ensure maximum profitability.

"Capcom is going to be much more heavily involved in our movies – Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li is the first film to hit theaters that follows this model, which is why the Capcom logo has such prominent placement at the beginning of the movie. We also have Onimusha (wrapped shooting in Asia a few months ago) on the way."

In addition, Kramer was quick to point out that a Clock Tower adaption is in pre-production, and a script is being written for a movie based on Lost Planet. Plus, he says, "a few other options are floating around Hollywood."

Hmmmm... Mega Man: The Movie, anyone?

Okay, I don't know about "Mega Man," but the first properties I thought of were...

BIONIC COMMANDO. This thing is a natural fit as an action movie.

GHOULS & GHOSTS. I would love to see a medieval knight battling demons and even Satan in the name of saving his beloved. Not much of a story there, but that just leaves you room to manuver.

Considering that the general spoken consensus on this movie seems to be that it's ho-hum average, it's kind of funny that the poll's two most popular choices are "zero" and "over ten."

I can't understand how Capcom can always be satisfied with medicore and loosely adaptations of their franchises. Don't they want their movies to do better than below average?

Whoa whoa whoa WHAT?!? Do we have a thread on this? I had no idea!!

I knew the movie was coming, I knew about the cast, I knew Christophe Gans was directing, etc. I had NO IDEA it finished shooting, however, after the original shoot date was delayed due to Heath Ledger's death (apparently he had a part in something that affected something about the movie, I don't really understand). SO... kind of a surprise.

I was surprised no one noticed that logo either, cause I was like, hmm..pretty cool. Regarding Mega Man, if that Astro Boy never gets released, I would say do it as a CGI flick in the vein of The Incredibles.

Yeah it completely came out of left field for me. Is there a thread on it? I don't want to clog up the Chun Li thread with this, but discussion must be done!!

Actually, the logo was my favorite thing about the entire movie.

I just bumped the thread for you. I half-suspect this Capcom guy doesn't know it was delayed or something...

Thanks bishop. I'm seeing Chun Li tomorrow for ****s and giggles. Who knows, maybe it'll be enjoyable.

Capcom has a long way to go before they can claim they're copying Marvel. Because if that's true they're doing an awful job duplicating Marvel's formula.

Meh. Nothing really special here. It was better than the Van Damme movie, but that's not really saying anything.

Chris Klein was horrible. How many times did he say "Nash?"

In one of the podcasts of spill.com, one of the dudes mentions that Justin Marks has a lot going on for him, being the current 'it' writer in Hollywood. However, spill.com thinks that Justin is also the next Ethan Krueger (The Ring). Ethan is a writer had a lot going on for him too, but now he's kinda in a slump. Maybe Justin will be the same in the near future.

I think Moon will be like Olga Kurylenko. Just hot chicks who probably has a decent agent or manager. So I think Moon will only go up from here, along with Olga.

Too bad Kristen doesn't have that momentum. (for now) But Kristen is still young enough so it's not too late for her to really restart her career.

They'll try to make Devil May Cry as well I'm sure

It's a bad trend from the 90's. I still can't stand watching anything starring Dawson's Creek alumni.

Or she'll be like Natassia Malthe. However, I think Moon did a good job in "Pathfinder".
