The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part (2019)

I'd do Lego Batman 2017
Ninjago 2018
Lego Movie 2019

Do they still make Bionicle toys? I remember as a kid, those commercials hyped me up. I know they made a bunch of crappy movies with terrible voice acting. But I think something is there

hmmm ok but i don't think its a good Move to Bring 2 Lego Spin Offs in 2017 and then The Next in 2019 i think they Announce an Other One for 2018 at Next Months SDCC

Warners does have an "Untitled Warner Animation Group Project" scheduled for February 9, 2018. It could be another LEGO spinoff, or something like this year's Storks.

Can anyone explain a five year gap between these films? Still not sure LEGO Batman movie is the best idea.

I just don't get it. It's like waiting five years to do a Godzilla sequel. You are burning away all the momentum.

People are getting more choosy with sequels nowadays, or outright reject unnecessary ones i.e. Huntsman Winter's War and TMNT 2. WB needs to make sure the sequel is as good as the first one, if not better. Audiences are willing to wait if the sequel is worth it, i.e. Finding Dory.

And The LEGO Batman Movie looks hilarious.

Why is pushing it back five years going to automatically do that?

I'm not seeing the logic. Winter's War you know came out four years after the original. So I'm not seeing the comparison here. Alice Through the Looking Glass came out 6 years after the original. Did taking all that extra time make those movies better?

I'm not sure how I'm seeing this is taking extra time to make the movie better so much as arbitrarily pushing it back.

If it's a case of they packed their schedule up so much over the next few years this is the earliest they can fit it in and since Lord and Miller are in such high demand now, they don't have time to lock in a script until a certain time.

Either way, five year gap still sounds insane IMHO.

What kind of creative differences can you have on a Lego movie?

LIN: We are going to The LEGO Movie 2. The team is all back together, so it’s [Phil] Lord and [Chris] Miller, myself and Chris McKay. Mike Mitchell is the new voice who’s coming in to direct the movie. Chris and Phil are rewriting the script right now, but we’re in production. We’re picking up where the first movie left us, where the Duplo have now come and they’re attacking Bricksburg. It’s several years later, and you’re going to see the result of that.

McKAY: The Duplo represents Finn’s sister, Finn being the little boy from the live-action. The Duplo is her. The man upstairs said, “You’ve gotta play with your sister. That’s the thing you’ve gotta promise me. I’ll let you play with my world, but now you’ve gotta let your sister come in and play with your world.” Now, she’s coming in, and that’s the major thing that the movie is about. What’s different and similar about gender, when a boy plays vs. how a girl plays? What kinds of stories are there? Chris and Phil are super f**king smart and really thoughtful and sensitive writers. The kinds of questions and the interesting ideas that they’re getting into with this movie, it’s going to be like the first LEGO Movie was, where it’s about something else that’s really profound. I’m really excited about where the movie is gonna go because it’s about these things that are actual notions that people have that might even be unconscious biases, where people don’t even realize that that’s the way they’re looking at the world. You can do that in a movie like this, and still have it be a great musical with fun songs, and have action and all of the other crazy things we’re gonna get into with that movie. It’s gonna be a really special movie.

LIN: Every one of our movies, so far, have been told from the point of view of one kid’s imagination. The LEGO Movie 2 will be the first one told through two kids’ imaginations – Finn and his sister. It’s going to be really interesting juxtaposing those two different visions.

IMHO putting off the sequel for five years was definitely a mistake. Stand by that.

It was a big mistake. WB missed a trick there. Should've struck while the iron was still hot. Ninjago will be a big test for them. Plus WB won't release a single Lego spinoff movie in 2018 (WAG has Smallfoot & S.C.O.O.B in 2018). The Lego Movie 2 & Billion Brick Race will have an uphill battle in 2019. I hope they are both very unique and high concept. Quality will win over the audience and the creative has my vote of confidence but there's no denying that WB waited too long for this.

Tiffany Haddish to Voice Star in 'Lego Movie 2'

The actress is joining the voice cast of The Lego Movie 2 as a key new character for the film.

Dan Lin is producing along with Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who directed The Lego Movie, the 2014 hit that earned $469.1 million worldwide and helped launch a franchise for Warner Bros. Roy Lee is also producing.

Redundancy FTW!

They know their audience. Grown ass nerds.

I actually think this looks pretty good. The storyline looks interesting, and it looks a lot better than the past 2 spinoffs, which I found kind of messy and obnoxious. It's a lot easier to tell what's going on here.

LEGO Batman continues to age phenomenally. Will like seeing how Emmet is super carefree in this new Mad Max-esque world.

Post Taco Tuesday apocalypse? Sold.

Someone in the comments already *****ing about the "feminist" joke, same as wreck it Ralph. :o
