The Lightning Saga, JLA/JSA Crossover

The flashbacks are irritating. Why the hell is it popular now to drag out recruitment for more than one issue, even after all the characters have not only all already showed up, but are already working as a team?

Nothing in comics is as irritating as those thought bubbles.

Given the crap that Bendis pulled with the previous team's formation in New Avengers, 2 issues covering the recruitment of this team was a blessing, as far as I'm concerned.

A blessing if all you read is Bendis, maybe, but for someone who has read comics that DON'T suck, it was still just as unbearable.

Also a blessing if you're a big Avengers fan and have been lacking in anything remotely resembling the classic Avengers for years now. If this is as close as it gets before Avengers Classic starts coming out, I'll take what I can get.

I enjoy New Avengers but can someone please tell Yu to calm the **** down and get an inker.

I hated this issue. Yes Dream Girl is in Arkham. Yawn. For some reason we have to have the Silver Age Legion be around because supporting the modern version of the Legion (and thus trying to make that sell more) and having grown-up versions of those characters lost in time would just be stupid!

And God Hawkgirl is ****.

Is Geoforce now on the team? I dunno, maybe we need a 8 issue arc to answer that question.

I can't stand how Val was jobbed to Batman. "Clark thinks the boys better, I love proving him wrong" **** off Batman.

At least Sand had some lines.

Eh, I never cared for the Legion in any of its forms. So, I really liked the issue personally.

I was annoyed with the Batman/Val fight, too. It's yet another reason why the current Legion would've been better for this story. The current Karate Kid is pretty much useless. He sucks. I could buy Batman kicking his ass, even though he's still supposed to know like a billion martial arts from all across the universe. But the Silver Age Val Armorr? The guy who had techniques that allowed him to dodge speedsters and lay Daxamites out with nothing but human strength? For such a Silver Age buttmonkey, I can't help wondering in light of this issue if Meltzer ever even read anything involving the Silver Age Karate Kid. I guess I'll just chalk it up to the fact that Val was really, really, really disoriented thanks to his ordeal, and the dominant Trident personality was still holding back the full force of his fighting skills. Hopefully Meltzer'll make up for it by having Val deck Superman or something before this is over.

That's the last thing I want to see. Because then people are just gonna proxy it and go

Batman > Karate Kid (VAL) > Superman ergo Batman > Superman.

I'd rather he just punch the ego out of bats.

The Batman fanboys who are dumb enough to draw that Batman > Val > Superman conclusion are more than dumb enough to come up with plenty of other stupid, senseless reasons for Batman to be the greatest character in the history of the imagination anyway.

Why not? I'm sure his caliber of art is something he can't produce monthly, so this crossover seems like the perfect opportunity to get caught up on future issues.

I've been enjoying the crossover so far. Nothing really super spectacular but it could be hella worse. The only thing that I'm a little upset about is the fact that I have to buy Justice League of America to get this entire story. I have NO INTEREST in the Justice League of America, damnit.

I do hope that Starman sticks around because he's the most hilarious character in this damn book, hell...in the entire DCU. Crazy Starman = more readers

Did you just say "hella" worse? Aww man, you from norcal?

You're not the sharpest tool in the tool shed are you? If by living in Pittsburgh, PA means that I live in norcal then I guess I do?

Yeah.

Crazy Starman irritates me. He's such an easy character. Of course he's going to be hilarious--he's crazy. Crazy = hilarity. Beyond the crazy, there's absolutely nothing to the character, though. It feels like Johns inserted him into the series for cheap, easy laughs.

Anyway, Sand rocked in this week's JSA. I really wish we could see more of him. He's easily the most interesting character on the JSA at this point, but Johns seems determined to keep him out of the spotlight as much as possible. I don't understand it. Why do I have to read about stupid Cyclone and Wildcat's *****ebag kid and angsty, emo, "oh my once-purty face is so ugly and scarred now so I hate the world" Damage and still more about ****ing goddamned Stargirl, whom Johns has to devote at least a page to in every mother****ing issue, while Sandman goes to waste in the background? I wish they'd just pare the JSA down to Alan, Jay, Wildcat, Sand, Mr. Terrific, Dr. Mid-Nite, Hourman, Liberty Belle, Cyclone, and Power Girl, get Manhunter on the team, and go from there.

Well, he's part of the Legion of Superheroes and that's what this crossover is about. So, he's there for more than just the cheap laugh. And so what if he is there for the cheap laugh. Makes me laugh. I get more entertainment out of a crazy fictional character than I do a real life human being doing horrible stand up comedy.

You're just being overly cynical.

I'm being overly cynical by demanding more of one of the industry's top writers than a character who's funny for saying random, utter nonsense? Jesus, the fact that you're serious just depresses me.

I actually depress you? Good. Now go kill yourself and do the world a favor.

No thanks. If I offed myself, your life would be far, far too easy and you might start thinking you had good opinions or something. That'd be a terrible shame.

What a *****. And my opinions are good. They are good enough to make you depressed and that's all that I need.

Hey folks calm down, breath, and remember, there are no stupid opinions, just stupid people with opinions.

What a *****. And my opinions are good. They are good enough to make you depressed and that's all that I need.
Now you're making me angry. And you wouldn't like me when I'm angry.

'Cause I ***** about comics even more. Sometimes I'll even ***** about good comics just so people don't think I'm going soft. Your life will be overrun by my overwhelming negativity and overly critical overbearingness.

Over.
