The List of Things That Batman 89 Got Right/Wrong

I personally think no Actor to play Bruce/Batman has ever looked quite right, Keaton was to small in size not to be confused with hight, Kilmer face was too smooth looking like a baby's bum, Clooney just didn't suit Batman's look at all, & Bale there is just something I can't but my finger on about his look. But that's based on looks if we are talking character then Keaton & Bale FTW with Kilmer a close third.

Clooney didn't suit the look at all? I think it's face is just perfect for Bruce Wayne.
And don't forget Adam West. He is the only actor who has the same height. I think if he was younger he could play a near perfect batman even today.

I think darkfly is right none of the actors ever really looked completely the part the closest actor i have seen to a perfect looking wayne is Sean Connery in his prime i just watched Goldfinger and he looks perfect.

lets put it this way. bale looked like bruce wayne from the comics, or some of them, the "playboy" version of bruce. i'll give him that. but to me he looked like a darker less dorky sounding val kilmer. not much of a leap. but as batman, he looked like an idiot. keaton muscle-wise may not have on the outside looked exactly like the comics (if he was built up more, i bet he would have been) but when he put on that suit, he BECAME the living breathing gruff clint eastwood-like Batman from the comics. bale looked like a dork in the suit, sadly. i blame it partly on bale, because he made that horrible sounding voice that sounded like glass being shattered with dogs barking, and partly on the costume designer who created that godawful cowl, with those razor sharp jowls and that egghead, and the worst part, the supertight mouthpiece that made him look like such a nerd. bale just wasnt Batman to me. hes just bruce wayne. but keaton is still Batman.

Bale was good but I agree to an extent the distinction between Bales bruce wayne and batman just wasnt big enough for me his batman really did seem like wayne in a suit but really angry. Keaton on the other hand had the distacted, airhead bruce which was a completely different from his dark madness in the eyes batman.

Agreed. You can compare Bale's voice between Batman's scenes (with Rachel at the Bafcave) and Bruce's scenes (at the limo talking to Lucius at the end of the movie) and the voice is quite the same. But in the interrogation scene, Bale's voice was great as Batman. And the voice thing didn't ruin the movie for me at all.

I begin to tire of the "Batman 89 was better because it was more faithful" and conversely the "Batman Begins was better because it was more faithful."

It still comes down to the quality and entertainment value of the movie as opposed to how similar it was to the comics. Ghost Rider was more faithful to the comics than any of Batman movies, yet it didn't seem to make for a great film. So was Sin City(although I enjoyed it), it's not better than '89 or Begins, despite being 99% the same as the comics.

How can people be bickering over who looked more like Bruce Wayne/Batman? If that's going to dictate quality than let's hand the award over to Clark Bartram as he was a bodybuilder complete with spandex who looked far more like Batman than Keaton, Bale, Kilmer, Clooney, & West all put together. Yet that didn't seem to help Bartram's mediocre performance.

Ummm, no sorry. :yay:

no because he is too small. :woot:

LMAO. what are you, 12? (expecting some BS bout how your actually 32 or some sh**). you just lost all credibility on these boards bud. what a tool. guy doesnt know one thing about batman, yet tries to act like he does. what a noob. if you really knew anything about batman, you could see ALL the past 5 film have done something right regarding the character. even the pretty awful B&R got some character traits right. clooneys wayne looked alot like the comics, possibly even more then any bat actor to date, and mr freeze, while he might have been portrayed as a ice pun spouting nerd, DID have the backstory you see in the comics, how his wife was in frozen alive and how he tries everything to save her (damn, you got me defending B&R, damn you!). but saying that B89 did not get anything right at all, man, what a stupid ass statement that one is, and ive seen alot of stupid posts on here! i almost sh** my pants laughing at your post. your obviously beyond being just a biased nolanite, your just being ingorant. i hate how ppl on here wear their ignorance like a badge of honor on these boards. makes me sick.

Your talking about being 12 with your absurd flame post? I still stand by my statement, and yes, I have been a bat fan for 30 years, and no B89 resembles nothing of the character of Batman or for that matter the Joker except in name only.
*EDIT* you are quite correct regarding Mr Freeze. With all the campy sillyness aside, the serious aspect of his story was absolutely spot on. My favourite scenes in any of the original 4 movies were of the serious Mr Feeze. Sadly there wasnt enough of it.

However its all about opinion, and opinions as we know are like ass holes. We all have them; some peoples are just much bigger than others.

I would have to disagree with you about B89. Being a bat fan for 30 years, I'm surprised that you say that.

I don't know about you, but Bale look like Wayne. Clooney doesn't. Not with that short "salt & pepper" hair, that is. Not to mention Bale is wearing a suit there. That quite "Bruce Wayne" of him. :p

Frankly thats a good shot of bale other shots of him are not so fllattering. i think Clooney was the closest he looked like wayne should look on screen it one of the great crimes of cinema that he was so bad i think they got him at the wrong time B&R was made at a time when he still had the head nodding thing going on whenever he spoke he is a far better actor now.

Wh-?? Bale not Wayne?

Christian Bale is Bruce Wayne and Batman.

I don't really want to get into this debate really but I can't help it, I think Bale probably looks most like Bruce though in the Batsuit I'd go for Michael Keaton and acting wise probably a draw between Bale & Keaton both are great actors and both play different parts of Bruce/Batman, Bale plays the more Playboy/Social side of Bruce better while Keaton plays the serious/dark/confused part of Bruce better.

Keaton will always be Batman in my book. But Bale did an amazing job as Bruce and Batman.

I think keaton and Bale are level pegging on the look and the acting and i agree with darkfly about Bale playing the playboy aspect and Keaton playing the more loner one
ive got to admit that Adam West looked like a Good Bruce Wayne( but not acting as him) but over all that series was utter campy crapness.

i think you are little bit too harsh. Just because it's not "teeh dark and teeh gritty" is not crap. It's the most accurate batman adaption on screen ever. There was no director to bring his "vision" to it. They tried to get even the smallest details right. In the end they made it campy, yes, but with their budget it was almost the only way to make the show believable. If they had played it straight it would have never been the success because... It's adult men running around in a skintight costume!
