The "Little Things" You Appreciated/Loved Thread - Part 1

Still love it. I'm thinking of watching it tonight.
 
The music, I put it on while I'm working and it always gets me going, particularly
The end credits and the short-version "An Ideal of Hope."

Still love the original Superman march, and always will, but a new Superman needed a new and mighty fanfare, Zimmer's music is a worthy successor to Williams' greatness.

Definitely, everything needs to move on eventually. Zimmer's music was perfect for Man of Steel. Had they used the Williams theme for MOS I don't think it would work. Same with Zimmers music over Williams for Superman the Movie. It just wouldn't work.
 
I just noticed something new whilst watching this again, I never before noticed Clark smile at the waitress when we first see him working at the bar. did anyone else notice this?

Yes. Made me think they were together.
 
I noticed that little smile he gave her. Thought it was cute.
 
After Superman's pummelled Zod through the gas station and Zod's senses go into overload. I love when the Kryptonian's blast Kal from the ship and the effect stays on his chest for a while after. Just think its so cool looking.

Yeah I noticed that on 1st viewing, Superman was definitely getting some!

Yeah definitely makes sense, plus just cause he's Superman doesn't mean he can't have fun when he's young.

Someone will probably start a thread soon, discussing Kryptonian sex drive.

Because they reproduce asexually, does that mean that Kryptonians don't
have one ? I'm not asking as a serious question, because no doubt someone's already put too much time into thinking about the answer.

Clearly Zod didn't, because he was marooned in space with Faora, and they
didn't manage to re-start the Kryptonian species.

If Clark does great, if not it's probably not a bad thing, as regular humans are pretty much like tissue paper to him. The issue of Superman and Lois having children has come up in the comics a few times, but I think the current consensus is that they cannot have children, as carrying the baby to term would probably kill Lois (and the baby).

For an absolutely terrific snapshot of what Clark would be like as a dad,
read "Last Son" by Geoff Johns and Richard Donner.

Sorry, back to MOS, Clark Kent has a very humble kind of charm. I liked that his t-shirt were old and kind of grubby (as you would expect from a farm labourer). While I loved Reeve and the Classic depiction of Kent in a suit, I vastly prefer the newer, less business-like, more-down-to-earth look.

As for Clark's charm, clearly Lana Lang (the girl on the bus) thought he was cool. The Waitress, yeah she liked him, but he was just passing through.

Anyway, this all goes back to Cavill's depiction of Clark. I really struggle with those who describe him as wooden. He was understated - he communicated what he was thinking with a look ( and boy, he does
"pissed off" Superman brilliantly). A very likeable Superman, a bit less
saintly than Reeve, but likeable and humble -which is what Superman's all about.

I definitely enjoyed on how the major female character were portrayed in this film. Lois, Faora, Martha, and Lara... they were all written well in my honest opinion.

It would be easy for any writer or director to make either of them look like a helpless damsel in distress, weakling, or for them to emphasize only on their sexuality, but they didn't here and I appreciated it.

This gives me great hope that Martha and Lois will be equally well written for the sequel, along with (possibly) Mercy Graves and Diana (No matter how long her screen time is.)

Well tbh Clark is the first naturally born Kryptonian in centuries who has been brought up as a human so I think his sex drive would probably be the same as a human's .

Read Last Son, owned it for years :cwink: great book

Yes, I and several ladies noticed that. I didn't think they were involved in a relationship. He vanished too easily to make me think that.

I hope no one starts a thread on this because there are probably like 100 threads already about this in various Superman sub-forums all over the Hype. You do bring up a good point though about Kryptonian's...uh...sexual urges. The look Faora gave Superman when they first met made me believe Kryptonians do have some appreciation for a handsome person...so I can't believe they don't have any sort of drive. Yet, 33 years is a long time to not have any action, so maybe the answer is Kryptonians were modified when they were born to be sterile and Kal's birth isn't just attributed to getting it on naturally...maybe Jor used a little bit of science to help things along.

Also, I don't buy the woman of tissue thing... If Clark can normally interact with the world then he obviously has found a way to coexist "naturally". Plus, since he wasn't breaking toilets at the Kent farm on a regular then I think he's alright in the "other" department. :oldrazz:

I don't get those who say he's wooden either. I thought he gave an understated performance that conveyed a lot. I watched MOS again. Unfortunately I've watched it so much I scratched the regular Blu-ray. Now I have to unwrap the other copy I bought...lol. Though I agree with the bolded 100%. Excellent points!

Yeah some people just want joke-maker and smiling all the time type. which of course it is nonsense according to the story of the movie.
Cavill did a great Superman that wasn't even stablished and was finding his place in the world with his presence and he was more Kal-El in this. He just need to put DP Clark to see his potential and to see his full character.
 
^Exactly, I will never get people saying Cavill was bad in this, he was spot on for me and got everything perfectly. When someone can convey an emotion or sentence with one look, they arent bad actors and it isnt a bad performance, simple as that for me.

I haven't read everything, but has anyone for real said Cavill was bad???
 
I've heard before from a minority that he was supposedly wooden, which is bollocks.

The weirdest thing I read about this film was that Cavill had less dialogue than Brandon Routh did in Superman Returns, I've watched both films tons of times and there's no way he says less than Routh did in that film.

I never noticed either Superman had little dialogue until internet told me so. I for once don't think good acting is measured by the amount of words you say. I love that Superman in movies has rarely been portrayed as a speech giver.

Cavill was one of the great things about MOS.
