The Lone Ranger

True enough, but that makes it an odd inclusion in the first public photo. Applying the same reasoning.....Does the Ranger only wear the mask in certain scenes?

What as the LR? Of course. Is Armie gonna wear the mask all the time?

I'm just saying that Tonto will probably don the makeup for the action scenes (or maybe ceremonies), ie Warpaint. All within context.

As much as I laughed at Depp in the photo, it was just his expression and the make up that made me laugh. I'll wait to see it in context. I'm sure the Tonto look will grow on me though. And Hammer looks better than I thought as The Lone Ranger. I have no problems with the costume. It looks pretty damn cool actually.

The thing about the Lone Ranger is that, for me, it has that 50's stigma that I can't get out of my head. Noble but boring..But I hope this film can bring the characters a more modern (irony since its a western) take. Less John Wayne more Clint Eastwood.*

*I don't want Lone Ranger to be a drifter but I wouldn't mind a deconstruction of the character like what Leone did with Speg-Westerns. Slightly cynical.

Unless in a disguise, the Lone Ranger never removes his mask.

there is no way that Tonto will have the bird on the head in the action scenes. i think this is the first time we see Tonto in the movie.

When Tonto removes that bird, will there be bird poo on his head?

Yeah, maybe just a little slightly more Roland Deschain-like .

John Wayne's roles where far removed from The Lone Ranger character....just sayin'. I get your point, may not agree with it, but John Wayne roles, is a bad standard to cite. Less Roy Rogers more John Wayne.

This does not look like a Wayne/John Ford film. No worries there. No one's made a western like The Searchers since. This looks like a Pirates movie in the west to me. Except not the first one.

... i think this is the first time we see Tonto in the movie.

Unless the movie starts in the middle there's no way that's possible, since Tonto meets John Reid long before he dons the mask. He rescues him, nurses him back to health, helps him capture Silver, and then helps him forge the identity of the Lone Ranger.

As far as Tonto wearing this ceremonial gear and make up throughout the movie, I doubt it too. They are both in a sense "dressed up" in this scene.

the is a promo shot. those are two different shots composed together. so IMO Tonto is from the beginning of the movie.

those are two different shots composed together.

I don't think so. While it'd be easy enough to fake, why bother?
If it's from two different shot's in the movie, why not present two different shots.

there are two reasons IMO. first the Tonto quality is lower. second Ranger is looking on the left like for a poster. and Tonto is looking at him.

you will see in 12 motnhs.

looks good

You know, with his relatively lengthy wavy hair, Hammer's look sorta reminds me of Klinton Spilsbury in The Legend of The Lone Ranger :

wasn't Klinton's voice dubbed over?

Yes, by James Keach.

I wonder why they even chose somebody as green as Spilsbury in the first place for that matter. Someone like Patrick Swayze or James Read could have been much better.

I hope this movie still has the William Tell Overture. They'd be fools to ditch that iconic theme.

In my opinion Johnny Depp as Tonto is just bad casting. But I like the casting of Armie Hammer as The Lone Ranger, he looks awesome.

Should've had someone like Lou Diamond Philips.

So, is this new movie using the traditional "William Tell" overture theme? Whaddayathink?
