The Lone Ranger

Yeah, Adam Beach is solid.

Lone Ranger to me seems like hed look a little more chiseled and grizzled than what Gosling can offer even with the right makeup. Someone like Josh Brolin comes to mind.

It is obvious they want an actor who will surely not take the spotlight away from Depp.

Which is exactly why Hammer shouldn't take it. One can't pull off a performance(s) like The Social Network and him be a fluke. The kid has honest-to-God chops and it doesn't help him at all to have Depp try for the umpteenth time to steal every frame with his "colorful weirdo" crap.

Look, what I'm hoping will happen(although I'm not holding my breath) is that The Ranger will be handled kinda' like Charles Bronson's character Harmonica in "Once Upon A Time In The West". Harmonica was "the hero" of the film, but he was not the main star(arguably). However, through the structure of the characters of Claudia Cardinale, Henry Fonda, and Jason Robards, the essence of Harmonica became very accentuated. It gave Harmonica a very effective flair of mystery. If that type of route is taken with "The Lone Ranger", I'd be fine. Let's wait and see...

.....and I just want to add, as I've brought up a Sergio Leone film, I think a good model for developing the chemistry between The Ranger and Tonto with more edge would be the partnership between Clint Eastwood and Lee Van Cleef in "For A Few Dollars More".

Armie Hammer to play the Lone Ranger

Exclusive: It's "Hi-ho, Silver! Away!" for Armie Hammer, with the thesp finalizing a deal to saddle up as the masked Texas Ranger in Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer's adaptation of "The Lone Ranger" opposite Johnny Depp's Tonto.Best known for his role as the Winklevoss twins in Sony's "The Social Network," Hammer had been the frontrunner for the "Lone Ranger" role for weeks, but casting now moves the project forward for a fall start, making it Bruckheimer's next tentpole after the fourth "Pirates of the Caribbean" pic sets sail this weekend.
Bruckheimer and Disney have long been eager to get "Lone Ranger" on the bigscreen. Producer already as a logo up on production shingle's website. Disney has yet to lock down a release date, but pic could bow as early as fall 2012.
Depp has been attached to "Lone Ranger" as Tonto since 2008, when the thesp took the Kodak Theatre's stage, backed by a USC marching band playing the show's theme song, during a Disney showcase of upcoming films. Depp, at the time, was dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow and wore the Lone Ranger's black mask.
Move had confused attendees at the time, making them think Depp would play the titular hero. But Depp will play the Ranger's trusty sidekick, instead, to whom he often refers to as "Kemo Sabe" (or trusted friend).
Casting now propels Hammer further into the big leagues after landing a high-profile role as the prince in Relativity Media's "The Brothers Grimm: Snow White," that also stars Julia Roberts as the evil queen. He plays a supporting role in Clint Eastwood's J. Edgar Hoover biopic for Warner Bros. and Imagine Entertainment.
Gore Verbinski will helm "Lone Ranger" from a script by Justin Haythe, after Depp wraps up WB's "Dark Shadows" adaptation, helmed by Tim Burton.
"Lone Ranger" launched as a radio show in 1933 before turning into a TV show during the 1950s and spinning off as movies and comicbooks. In 2003, the WB tried to revive a TV show with Chad Michael Murray ("One Tree Hill") as the masked man in a TV movie that served as a backdoor pilot.

If Lone Ranger is a hit it could help Hammer's career even more but I personally don't really want him to do it.

The Pirates sequels (I kinda liked the second one) weren't as good because of the scripts, I personally think that Verbinski is a perfectly fine director so if the script is decent or good (like the Pirates 1 was) then I think that The Lone Ranger will be fine.

The script should at least be solid. For one thing, it doesn't have anything to do with Pirates. If it's on the level of the first Zorro and first Pirates then fine. I think we will get something like that. Add Verbinski to that and that's a good thing. He needed to get away from Pirates. Rango was a breath of fresh air for him, so with that, he jumps into something like that that isn't Pirates, we should be good.

^I had huge problems with Rango's script but it was a well directed and beautifully animated film. The last 3rd of Rango was just fantastic.

This should be a very interesting take.

Well at least it wasn't Pirates 3. :awesome:

Lone Ranger should (and hopefully) be a breath of fresh air for him. I don't mind him going back to the swashbuckling fun adventure aspect, it's just that it's a new movie and character is a good thing for him.

Good suggestions

I'm curious as to how this will be done.. hopefully not too silly.

Oh, I still liked Rango.

Anything is better than Pirates 3, that movie was a hot mess.

I like that Hammer got the part though Gosling would be an interesting choice as well. But still, Hammer is a pretty solid choice and I'm kind of excited to see this.

this screams ''the power of Johnny Depp'' to me. there is no way that Verbinski,Bruckheimer will make a movie where Depp is the side character.

he will have all the big lines and scenes. and the worst part is he will do hes weird character again.

5) Watching Pirates 3 more than once and twice and get inspired by it.

I've watched Pirates 3 more than once. It has its good moments, but it's so goddamned jumbled, it's just everything a film shouldn't do in terms of its narrative.

4) Getting stabbed in a knife fight with a hobo

I disagree with this one. At least with the knife fight, you get an interesting story out of it that you don't mind telling to other people.

So the movie is coming out next year? Sweet.

Verbinski, Depp and Hammer. I can't wait.

Lone Ranger 4: On Stranger Plains

Only remaining castmember is Depp and it's a Tonto focused movie

:whatever:

A week after Hobbit ?
Either Disney must have alot of confidence or someone up there is smoking some awesome weed.
Depp was in ALice. a Disney movie. Verbinsky directed the first 3 POTC movies. and Burchimer signed a deal with the devil ( joke).

someone needs to remind Disney how much money The Tourist made. muhahahhahahahahhah :awesome:
